US Audacity of Hope Falters: Settlement Freeze No Longer Required

September 3rd, 2009

By Ramzy Baroud

The US has decided to be ‘flexible’ regarding its once touted call for a total Israeli freeze on the expansion of its occupied territories’ settlements, all illegal under international law.

A senior official spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity on August 27. “It was more important that the scope of a settlement freeze was acceptable to the Israelis and the Palestinians than to the United States,” Reuters reported, citing the senior official. This means that peace negotiations can resume while Israeli bulldozers are carving up Palestinian land, demolishing homes and cutting down trees.

Message to Cheney, The CIA, Pentagon, White House and USA Christians

September 3rd, 2009

"The Times claims that Pakistan's "nuclear arsenal is expanding faster than
any other nation's" but makes no mention of Israel's nuclear arsenal..."

"Your corrupt ways had finally made you blind Idiot wind, blowing like a circle around my skull, From the Grand Coulee Dam to The Capitol. Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth, You're an idiot." - Bob Dylan

On the August 31, 2009 edition of "FOX News Sunday" Dick Cheney said:

"Just today, for example, the courts in Pakistan have ruled that A. Q. Khan, the father of the Pakistan nuclear weapon man who provided assistance to the Iranians, the North Koreans, the Libyans, has now been released from custody. It is very, very important we find out and know long term what he is up to. He is, so far, the worst proliferator of nuclear technology in recent history." [1]

Is Globalization a Dirty Word?

September 3rd, 2009

By Tim Buchholz

To many globalization is a bad word. Some secret organization with its fingers in every pie slowly working its master plan into fruition. Or, globalization is just the unavoidable outcome of the technological advances of our species. We keep making the circle smaller, the distance between us less and less with world wide webs and satellite positioning, it only makes sense that global governments will develop out of global economies. Is there some secret hand willing it to happen over centuries? Possibly. Even if there is, we'll probably never know for sure. Some of my friends consider me a conspiracy theorist, asking me if I have started wearing foil around my head. Well one thing I can tell you about conspiracies, they are a bit difficult to prove. But the sad thing is, they often make a lot more sense. And once you open that can of worms, it is very difficult to go back.

Gaza Fishermen - Daily Suffering with No Notice

September 3rd, 2009

Ayman Quader

Gaza City, Sept. 2, 2009, (Pal Telegraph) - Everyday in the news, I hear about the suffering of the Gaza fishermen - one was killed, others wounded, and the Israelis are firing on still others. And I wanted to shed a light on their pain.

I went to the main Gaza port. While I was there, I figured out how sad the sea and the fishermen are. Boats are stuck and fishermen are looking at the sea with no hope.

US/Israel vs Iran Nuclear Chess Game

September 3rd, 2009

By Dr. Elias Akleh

Since 2003 Iran has been coerced into playing a nuclear chess game against US and Israel. Western media outlets have been playing the part of cheer leaders for the American Israeli side, preparing the observing masses for the expected American Israeli “checkmate” move against Iran. Not a single day passes without the description and analyses of a tactical move, with each analysis ending with the question of when, rather than if, the Israelis would bomb Iranian nuclear facilities.

The Israeli moves:
In their annual meeting, on February 18th 2009, The Israeli military leaders had officially declared Iran as their number one strategic enemy in the region, and that the alleged Iranian nuclear arms program constitutes an “existential threat” to the state of Israel. They declared the elimination of the Iranian nuclear threat a top priority for the Israeli military and political leaderships.

Dissecting the Scrambled Brains of the GOP

September 3rd, 2009

by Len Hart, The Existentialist Cowboy

It was not so long ago that GOP Senators Chuck Hegal and Richard Lugar described the Bush administration as "incompetent"! And they were being polite. CONSERVATIVE commentator George Will referred to the Bush administration as "...the gang that couldn't shoot straight!" In Iraq, Bush's "puppet" Allawi said of WMD: "...they must be somewhere!"

But that's not to say that WMD were ever in Iraq! It does not follow that because something is not 'here', it must be 'there'! It does not follow that because something is 'not' then something else is somewhere else or that something else 'is'.

The Internet is slowly being censored, filtered, and throttled: Why are our corporate governments trying to control information?

September 2nd, 2009

by chycho

There is a very good possibility that the World War III option is an attempt to control the Internet by eliminating Net Neutrality and online free speech. It appears that the boundaries set between countries through treaties are vanishing due to the exponential dissemination of information through the Net. This is in conflict with the wishes of the oligarchy who are willing to do anything to maintain control. After all, it is, in large part, our technological evolution that is bringing about our socioeconomic metamorphosis that we see manifesting itself as a global financial crisis.

The attack on the Internet use to be just three-pronged; bandwidth throttling by ISP’s, Internet censorship by governments, and the oligarchy trying to prevent Network Neutrality. However, as of this year, we can now add a new category to this list, autocratic control over the Internet.

Report about the containers school in Gaza

September 2nd, 2009

Najwa Sheikh Ahmed

The month of Ramadan has come this year to the people of Gaza along with the new school year reminding them of the hard living conditions they had to live due to the crushing blockade that Israel imposed on Gaza for the third year. A blockade that do not allow even for the basic needs such as medications, flour, building materials, papers, books and stationary for the new school year 2009/2010 to enter Gaza.

With such deteriorating living and financial conditions the people of Gaza have lost the taste of the joyful Ramadan nights, where they used to go to the markets to buy and to select from the various goods available especially in this holly month, and children found themselves unable to have the regular Ramadan Fanous (lamp) due the high price of these special toys and they were satisfied with home made one of tanks and bottles of Cola or juice.

A UN Special Focus on Gaza Under Siege

September 2nd, 2009

by Stephen Lendman

In August 2009, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) published a special report titled: "Locked In: The Humanitarian Impact of Two Years of Blockade on the Gaza Strip." It focuses on import and export restrictions, the travel ban on "livelihoods, food security, education, health, shelter, energy and water, and sanitation." It explains how violence and human rights abuses increase the suffering of 1.5 million people.

Following Hamas' January 2006 electoral victory, all outside aid was cut off. Sanctions and an economic embargo were imposed, and the democratically elected government was falsely accused of being a terrorist organization and isolated. Stepped up repression followed as well as IDF attacks, killings, targeted assassinations, property destruction, and more. Gazans have been imprisoned ever since. In silence, the world community sanctions Israeli crimes and shares guilt for their commission.
