Assad Honors Syria’s Army

August 12th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

It represents the land component of Syria’s armed forces - its dominant military branch engaged in a heroic struggle against US and Israeli imperialism.

Its origin dates from post-WW I - its modern incarnation since 1945. On July 31, Assad honored it on the 70th anniversary of its founding.

He expressed thanks for over four years of heroically defending the Syrian people and homeland against US recruited, armed, funded, trained and directed death squads sent cross-border to commit horrendous atrocities - to destabilize and topple his government, to continue endless violence and chaos. “Because you embodied an example in defending the homeland and preserving the integrity of its people, the Syrian people have stood side by side with you to repulse the aggressors and to express their pride in you,” Assad said.

Sign the petition: Thank President Obama for pursuing peace with Iran/RESPONSE

August 11th, 2015

Larry Pinkney

RESPONSE from Larry Pinkney to MoveOn.org

I most certainly will NOT sign your petition (below) thanking Drone Man, 'Kill List,' NDAA/indefinite detention signing Barack Obama for more of his smoke & mirror "diplomacy" re Iran or any other nation. STOP being shills for the Democratic Party while simultaneously perpetuating the fake left/right paradigm of divide & conquer carried out by the 'leadership' of both the 'Democratic' and Republican parties!!!!

In the context of the United States, the only thing "historic" about the so-called deal with Iran, is how successfully Obama (and his corporate vomit-stream media clones) continue to be in duping a significant portion of the 'American' people. But this too, is steadily changing.

Irresponsible NYT and CNN Venezuela Bashing

August 11th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Venezuelan Bolivarian democracy shames America’s sham process. Its electoral system is the world’s best, says Jimmy Carter.

Slanderous reporting remains relentless - since Hugo Chavez took office in February 1999, continuing under Nicolas Maduro, vicious Big Lies substituting for hard truths.

On August 7, New York Times editors headlined “Venezuela Tries to Silence Critics.” They outrageously denounced its government for prohibiting two criminals from seeking public office. Leopoldo Lopez and Maria Corina Machado openly call for regime change. They want Maduro forcefully ousted. They want fascist governance replacing Bolivarian fairness. They want Venezuela returned to its bad old days.

Republican Party Gave First Presidential Debate to Fox News as Political Payoff

August 11th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

Millions of especially non-Republicans on Thursday night were disappointed to find that they couldn’t access the first V because they don’t subscribe to the Fox News Channel, the Republican Party’s news channel.

Immediately, Newsweek posted an announcement explaining:

Fox News is making it difficult to watch the first 2016 GOP presidential debate online. If you have a cable account, you can sign in to Fox New's website and watch a live stream here. The Fox News app is available for smartphones and game consoles as well, allowing viewers with cable accounts to watch on the go, but also only if you have a subscription to cable. … Fox is closely protecting the only legal stream option, and heavily restricted the venue's audience.

EU Leaders’ Big Lies to the Public

August 11th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

EurActive reported on Friday, August 7th, that, "Jean-Claude Juncker has responded to the public outcry over the immigration crisis by urging European leaders to show solidarity and resist the message of populist parties.” However, Juncker isn’t blaming the Obama Administration in Washington, which caused this crisis, and to which Europe’s aristocrats adhere.

In Libya, Syria, Ukraine, and other countries at the periphery or edges of Europe, U.S. President Barack Obama has been pursuing a policy of destabilization, and even of bombings and other military assistance, that drives millions of refugees out of those peripheral areas and into Europe, thereby adding fuel to the far-rightwing fires of anti-immigrant rejectionism, and of resultant political destabilization, throughout Europe, not only on its peripheries, but even as far away as in northern Europe.

Unconstitutional Senate Intelligence Authorization Act

August 11th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Freedom in America is being systematically destroyed one police state law at a time - with most people ignorant and/or indifferent about what happening.

Washington’s criminal class is bipartisan - in lockstep against government representing everyone equitably and fairly, serving privileged interests only.

S. Res. 1705: Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 compromises free expression and privacy rights already gravely eroded.

If enacted, Section 603 will require online companies to inform Washington of any “actual knowledge” of “facts and circumstances” related to undefined “terrorist activity” - meaning warrantless searches and seizures of personal electronic content will be authorized, potentially subjecting countless numbers of innocent people to unjustifiable scrutiny.

Ukraine Bans 14 ‘Artists,’ Mainly Russians, as ‘Threat to National Security’

August 11th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

On Saturday, August 8th, Ukraine’s Interfax News Service announced that the Security Bureau of Ukraine had just issued, on Friday, a list of 14 ‘artists’ (mainly Russian actors) who ‘pose a threat to Ukraine’s national security.’ The Ukrainian State Film Agency is, under Ukrainian law, now prohibited from authorizing or allowing distribution of their films or other works. These artists are thus officially banned.

The list also includes French actor Gerard Depardieu, and even Russian economist Mikhail Khazin.

Khazin claims that the gold price has been manipulated downward, and that gold is therefore way undervalued. In 2004, he published a book, The Decline of the Dollar Empire and the End of the Pax Americana.

Gitmo in Chicago Revisited

August 11th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

An earlier article discussed London Guardian revelations about Chicago police operating an “off-the-books (Homan Square) interrogation compound” - a “nondescript warehouse” using “CIA black site” practices.

Police brutality victims are lawlessly arrested, detained, denied access to lawyers, and tortured during secret interrogations. From September 2004 to July 2015, only three arrestees were visited by attorneys.

Unless all others waived their constitutional right, the facts show Chicago police lied saying “any individual who wishes to consult a lawyer will not be interrogated until they have an opportunity to do so.”

GH Eliason: US Congress and President Obama Officially Recognize Donbas’ Freedom!

August 10th, 2015

It’s true! President Barack Obama beat Russia’s President Putin to the punch by recognizing the right of Donbas to ascend to the fraternity of nations first. He has reaffirmed this every year he has been in office.

The Captive Nations Week Resolution passed by both the Senate and House of Representatives in 1959 and reissued as a Presidential Proclamation every year for the last 56 years (also known as Public Law 86-90) affirms the RECOGNITION of the “Don” ( Donetsk and Lugansk Peoples Republics are core countries of a Cossackia ) as well as a future Zaporozhyian Republic (currently Zaporozhye Oblast).

Cossackia is the American geopolitical term describing the regions where Cossacks lived in the former USSR and Russia. This proclamation is still CURRENT US law and tradition.

Strange Remembrance: From Hiroshima to Baghdad - What Have We Learned?

August 10th, 2015

Mahboob A. Khawaja

The 21st century politics is a game of vindictiveness, mutual fear and hatred – more so, amongst the competing superpowers including the United States, West Europeans, Russia and economically influential China. Japanese politicians cannot dare to question American rulers against the occupation and intellectual subservience. Most oil exporting Arab leaders enjoy the same deficient status. They are morally and intellectual conquered and dehumanized. Temples ring bells every year across Japan and hands are raised in prayers for peace and condemnation of the atomic bombs. But all are missing the real issues facing the future of global mankind. All wars are aimed at destruction of people, the habitats and the Nature of Things. The symbolic annual remembrance will not undo the infinite darkness shrouding the use of destructive atomic bombs to which large parts of the humanity are subjected.
