The 2005 Bankruptcy Bill: Knowing a Financial Crisis Was Imminent, Banks Lobbied Government to Pass Laws to Preserve Their Wealth

August 27th, 2013

by chycho

Our government representatives would like us to believe that the subprime mortgage crisis (2, 3, 4, 5) could not have been predicted. The truth is, the collapse was expected and authorities were well aware that crimes were being committed.

I. Introduction

It is said that if you want to find the corrupt, follow the money. This catchphrase, however, cannot be used as a preventative measure; it can only be used in retrospect to punish perpetrators of a crime. It does very little to protect us from predators. This is unfortunate when applied to our current crony capitalistic system; a wrong decision in our personal finances can mean the difference between living a life of debt servitude or one of freedom.

In our current centralized economic system, the best way to avoid pitfalls and preserve wealth, improving lifestyle, is to pay close attention to changes in laws and be mindful of their implications. Take, for example, the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BAPCPA):

A rush to judgment is a rush to war

August 27th, 2013

Michael Collins
On Sunday and Monday, representatives of President Barack Obama and Prime Minister David Cameron claimed that it is "too late" to effectively examine the nature and source of the chemical weapons event near Damascus, Syria last Wednesday (August 21). (Image: Tim Green)

Are these coordinated, self-serving statements by those who want to attack Syrian government without regard to the source of the chemical weapons attack?

The "too late" statements came four and five days after the attack. The clear implication is that the limit for a chemical weapons investigation is four to five days after the event.

The Leveraged Buyout of America

August 27th, 2013

by Ellen Brown

Giant bank holding companies now own airports, toll roads, and ports; control power plants; and store and hoard vast quantities of commodities of all sorts. They are systematically buying up or gaining control of the essential lifelines of the economy. How have they pulled this off, and where have they gotten the money?

In a letter to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke dated June 27, 2013, US Representative Alan Grayson and three co-signers expressed concern about the expansion of large banks into what have traditionally been non-financial commercial spheres. Specifically:

[W]e are concerned about how large banks have recently expanded their businesses into such fields as electric power production, oil refining and distribution, owning and operating of public assets such as ports and airports, and even uranium mining.

Pentagon Preparing for War on Syria

August 26th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Washington's rage for war won't quit. It sacrifices truth. Big Lies substitute. Syria bears no responsibility for Wednesday's incident. Convincing evidence blames insurgents.

They used chemical weapons multiple times before. They've been caught red-handed. Don't expect media scoundrels to explain. They feature biased reporting. They ignore hard facts. They do so consistently.

They're in lockstep with US policy. They do so right or wrong. They support regime change. They back direct military intervention. They ignore international law.

Latin America: Class Struggle and Resistance in the Age of Extractive Capitalism

August 26th, 2013

James Petras

Introduction

Class struggle is central in framing the issues of political rule, the relations of classes, the economic structures and strategies and the distribution of wealth.

Especially in the era of imperialist globalization, the class struggle takes on an international character, as multi-national corporations, international financial organizations and imperial states directly intervene, or act through proxy collaborator states, in ‘the class struggle between labor and capital’. This is especially evident in Latin America with the ascendancy of extractive capital: giant agro-mineral corporations play a major role in shaping state economic policies, to the detriment of labor, communities and indigenous peoples.

Classes in struggle vary over time and place, depending on their social-economic and political conditions, organization, past trajectory, the distribution of income and the locus of economic exploitation and dispossession.

McCarthyism Writ Large

August 26th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

In the late 1930s and 1940s, the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) targeted alleged communist sympathizers. Uncorroborated hearsay alone mattered.

Prominent Hollywood figures were named. Hundreds of actors, directors, producers, screenwriters, musicians, songwriters, and other artists were accused of communist sympathies.

They were blacklisted. Notable ones were called the Hollywood Ten.

They included screenwriter Alvah Bessie, screenwriter/director Herbert Biberman, screenwriter Lester Cole, director Edward Dmytryk, screenwriter Ring Lardner, Jr., screenwriter John Lawson, screenwriter Albert Maltz, screenwriter Samuel Ornitz, producer/screenwriter Adrian Scott, and author/screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

Nanotech Food Test May Expose Chemtrail Poisoning

August 25th, 2013

By Rady Ananda
Activist Post

Last week, the University of Missouri announced a new method to detect silver nanoparticles in fresh produce and other food products.

Though not mentioned by researchers, it’s conceivable that the protocol could be modified to test for chemtrail dispersants, as well, since the particles dispersed are in the nano size range, measured in billionths of a meter.

Over 200 agricultural pesticides contain nanosilver, which studies have shown to be toxic to humans and the environment. Over 1,600 consumer products are known to contain nanoparticles, ranging from clothes to cleaning agents, to food, cosmetics, and drugs; but with no regulatory requirement to disclose, the real number is likely far higher by orders of magnitude.

Will Obama Pull a Bush WMD Scam in Syria?

August 25th, 2013

Michael Collins

A rush to judgment is a rush to war.

It's put up or shut up time for President Barack Obama.

Will the president wait for the completion of an objective study to determine the source of a chemical weapons in an attack on a Damascus suburb on August? Or, will he fix the results, declare the Syrian government guilty, and unleash some form of military attack? If he chooses the later option, the similarities to the George W. Bush WMD lies will be too close to ignore.

Added to Obama's refusal to get Wall Street crooks prosecuted, his weak efforts on jobs, the NSA spying on all citizens coupled with his outright denial of the effort, Obama's presidency will lack even the most rudimentary form of legitimacy.

Imminent US War on Syria?

August 25th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Syria is Washington's war. It was planned years ago. It's about regime change. America wants pro-Western puppet leaders replacing independent ones.

Washington doesn't launch conflicts to quit. US-enlisted death squads are no match against Syria's military. They're being routed.

Fresh terrorists are imported from abroad. They're from dozens of countries. They're recruited continually. They replace depleted ranks.

Waging war requires selling it. Public support's needed. Big Lies substitute for truth and full disclosure. Wednesday's chemical attack was a classic false flag.

It's a setup. Syrian forces had nothing to do with it. A previous article explained. It quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich, saying:

Monsanto's Harvest of Shame

August 25th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

In 1960, Edward R. Murrow hosted CBS Reports. It was television the way it should be. It no longer exists.

It was a feature TV documentary series. They're not shown today. They told viewers what they need to know.

Modern-day Murrows aren't around. They're excluded from TV. They don't get air time. He discussed how American migrant agricultural workers are exploited.

He and colleague Edward P. Morgan covered the issue on CBS Radio. CBS News president Fred Friendly called it natural for Murrow to pursue.

He cared. He supported oppressed workers. It showed in his work. CBS featured what's no longer broadcast.
