General Wesley Clark: Whistleblower, Warrior

June 22nd, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

One a warrior, always one. Clark hasn't forgotten. His credentials are notorious. He's a war criminal. He's also a whistleblower. More on that below.

He formerly commanded NATO. From March 24 - June 19, 1999, he led naked aggression against Yugoslavia. For 78 days, hundreds of warplanes attacked mercilessly. About 3,000 sorties were flown.

Thousands of tons of ordnance were dropped. Hundreds of ground-launched cruise missiles were used.

Nearly everything was struck. Massive destruction and disruption followed. An estimated $100 billion in damage was caused. A humanitarian disaster resulted. Environmental contamination was extensive.

Many thousands were killed, injured or displaced. Two million people lost livelihoods. Homes and communities were destroyed.

Another Israeli War Criminal of the Year Award

June 22nd, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

America represents the worst of rogue governance. So does Israel. They menace humanity. They persecute their best. They honor their worst.

Peacemakers are scorned. Waging war on humanity's rewarded. On March 21, Obama received Israel's Medal of Distinction. It's also called the President's Medal.

It's Israel's highest civil award. It's for individuals "who have made an outstanding contribution to the State of Israel or to humanity, through their talents, services, or in any other form."

In 2012, Henry Kissinger won. His rap sheet includes decades of crimes of war, against humanity and genocide. Israel rewarded his New World Order ruthlessness. It didn't surprise.

Washington Funds Secret Israeli Ballistic Missile Base

June 22nd, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On June 3, McClatchy's foreign staff headlined "US publishes details of missile base Israel wanted kept secret." More on that below.

Last November 28, the Washington Post headlined "US overseeing mysterious construction in Israel." A previous article discussed it. Washington and Israel partner in imperial operations. Expensive projects are included. According to WaPo:

"The US Army Corps of Engineers plans to supervise construction of a five-story underground facility for an Israel Defense Forces complex…."

It's called "Site 911." It'll be built at an Israeli air force base near Tel Aviv. It's precise location is secret. Construction will take two years or longer.

Time frames are often extended. Cost is expected to be about $100 million. Expect double or more spent perhaps before completion.

Obama's Nuclear Arms Reduction Hoax

June 22nd, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Jack Kennedy was America's last peace president. He underwent a spiritual transformation. He changed from cold warrior to peacemaker.

He wanted nuclear weapons abolished. He urged "general and complete disarmament." He wanted force-fed Pax Americana ended.

He assumed great risk. Nearly all his top advisors disapproved. Pentagon commanders opposed him. So did most congressional members. CIA officials weren't pleased.

Kennedy was vulnerable. He knew it. He accepted the risk. It cost him his life. He was assassinated weeks after signing the US/Soviet Russia Limited Test Ban Treaty and National Security Action Memorandum Number 263.

Obama's Berlin Moment

June 22nd, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Obama's unwelcome in Berlin. He's not wanted. Many Berliners aren't pleased he came. His rhetoric fell short. Doublespeak duplicity is hollow. It doesn't sell well.

On July 29, 2008, 200,000 Germans cheered him. They did so in central Berlin's Tiergarten. They hoped he'd change Bush/Cheney policies.

He promised. He lied. He exceeds the worst of his predecessors. On June 19, Obama chose the Brandenburg Gate. It was hermetically sealed off to protect him.

He spoke behind thick bullet-proof glass. About 4,000 got to attend. They were handpicked to avoid embarrassment. More on his speech below. It wasn't an "Ich bin ein Berliner" moment.

One Million Protest in Brazil Last Night - Tropical Spring

June 21st, 2013

Michael Collins
Sparked by a public transportation fare increase in Sao Paolo a week ago, an estimated one million people showed up in cities across Brazil expressing discontent with the limited opportunities they face and an indifferent government.

"It's not really about the price anymore," said Camila Sena, an 18-year-old university student at a Wednesday protest in Rio de Janeiro's sister city of Niteroi. "People are so disgusted with the system, so fed up that now we're demanding change." USA Today, June 20, 2013

Like the protests in Turkey over the past weeks, this is an urban phenomenon dominated by the young. Many are college educated and under or unemployed. For most, these are their first political protests. They chafe at wasted public expenditures. In Rio, for example, the government spend millions for an international soccer tournament while the people idle away with few if any prospects for meaningful employment or a future. The False Flag "War on Terror"

June 21st, 2013

By Timothy V. Gatto

The recent revelations about government intrusion into everyone's privacy are alarming. More alarming however, is the justifications that the government uses for invading its citizens privacy. The entire argument that we must balance our liberty against our security is a pernicious falsehood based on lies and propaganda. The constant propaganda about threats to national security is what every regime throughout history has used to keep the support of the people. External threats from the enemy are a scare tactic that was used by the Romans and continues to this day. The German Reich used the threat posed by Poland as an excuse to start World War II. The Germans used a "false flag" event to invade that nation. Things haven't changed since then.

Big Brother Writ Large in America

June 20th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Spying on its citizenry reflects one of the most defining police state characteristics. Post-9/11, America crossed the line.

Unconstitutional mass surveillance became official US policy. Bush began it. Obama accelerated it. He did so straightaway as president.

He promised otherwise. He pledged transparency and openness. He promised no more Bush/Cheney lawlessness. He lied. He exceeded the worst of his predecessors.

Free societies don't tolerate these practices. Obama authorized them secretly. He subverted constitutional law. He violated the public trust. He broke a key campaign pledge.

Fast-Tracking Toward War on Syria

June 20th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

America's run by sociopaths. They're out-of-control criminals. They're traitors. They menace humanity. They violate their sacred oaths of office.

Presidents "do solemnly swear (or affirm to) faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of (their) Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Congressional members "do solemnly swear (or affirm to) support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; (to) bear true faith and allegiance to the same; (to) this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and (to) well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which (they are) about to enter: So help (them) God."

War by Another Name in Syria

June 20th, 2013

by FRANKLIN LAMB
Beirut.

The Group of Eight leaders meeting in Lough Erne, Northern Ireland, having called for an international conference on the ongoing crisis in Syria to be held “as soon as possible” could not agree on much else that might end the civil war anytime soon there. The White House now is reportedly in private agreement with Russia and Iran that the Assad government will remain in power until next year’s election.

Consequently, an 18 month old US-led Plan B has been dusted off by the Obama administration according to Washington Congressional and Beirut diplomatic sources. If successful, there is growing confidence among pro-Zionist neocons in Congress that while Syrian regime-change has failed for several reasons that thwarted the Gulf funded military campaign, Syria can still be brought to heel through an economic campaign dressed to look, well, down right “humanitarian.”
