Woolrich London Killing: Terrorism or False Flag?

May 25th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Reports said two assailants hacked a British soldier to death. He's been identified as Lee Rigby. He was killed in broad daylight. It was several hundred meters from southeast London's Woolwich Royal Artillery barracks.

Weapons included a machete type knife. Alleged attackers remained on the scene. They did so until police arrived 20 minutes later.

Why wasn't explained. Killers don't usually stay around to be captured. Both assailants were shot and apprehended. They were hospitalized for treatment.

One allegedly said "(w)e must fight as they fight us. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." Britain's ITV news aired an edited video clip.

Allegedly an onlooker filmed it. How whoever did so happened to be on site wasn't explained. Odds against it are huge. So is remaining unscathed. Assailants don't take kindly to being caught in the act.

Media Summary of selected fluoride - risk studies

May 25th, 2013

from Gary G. Kohls

With the precautionary principle in mind, the studies below and numerous others support that there is more than a reasonable scientific basis for being concerned about the addition of fluoridation chemicals to Portland’s drinking water. Each study , of course , is disputed by fluoridation proponents.

National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences, “Fluoride in Drinking Water, A Scientific Review of EPA’s Standards” (2006) Web link: http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=11571

This 500 - plus page report by the Committee on Fluoride in Drinking Water reviewed EPA’s Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL) and Maximum Contaminant Level Goals (MCLG) to determine if they were protective of public health. The report evaluated a broad range of studies linking low concentrations of fluoride in drinking water to an assortment of health risks ranging from dental fluorosis and increased risks of bone fractures to osteosarcoma ( bone cancer ) and impacts on the endocrine system due to decreased thyroid function. The report identified the need for a broad range of additional studies to understand fluoride’s ability to cause bone cancer, IQ impacts, d ecreased thyroid function and other health impacts.

Why Stocks Have Risen: Stimulus, Stimulus, and Indefinite-Stimulus, i.e., Transfer of Wealth from Main Street to Wall Street

May 24th, 2013

by chycho

Since bottoming out at an intra-day low of 6,467 on March 6, 2009, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DOW) has risen to 15,295 as of May 23, 2013 - a gain of approximately 130% in just over 4 years. The S&P 500 has shown similar results, advancing from an intra-day low of 666 to 1,650 for the same period, a gain of approximately 125%. Stellar returns.

As to why the markets have risen at historic rates during times of austerity economics? The answer is simple, it’s due to quantitative easing (QE) began by centralized banks after the market crash of 2008 – “fundamentally a regressive redistribution program that has been boosting wealth for those already engaged in the financial sector or those who already own homes, but passing little along to the rest of the economy.”

The amount of stimulus used varies depending on your definition of stimulus, so we won’t bother keeping tabs on the trillions that have been dumped into the markets in the last 4 years. We’ll just make note that at present the Federal Reserve is continuing its unlimited quantitative easing program to the tune of $85 billion a month, a last resort, desperate measure that the FOMC began in 2012 to maintain its ‘growth’ targets.

Pakistan: More Things Change, More Remain the Same

May 24th, 2013

Mahboob A. Khawaja, PhD

Nawaz Sharif

Contemporary affairs represent Pakistani nation as divided people, leaderless who have been exploited by the neo-colonial feudal lords causing catastrophic consequences without accountability and engaged in looting the people of their socio-economic, moral and political consciousness for a sustainable future. The nation was incapacitated to THINK with REASON for its future. Elections 2013 facilitated no substantial change in the status-quo of foreign dictated governance except surprisingly people finding Nawaz Sharif as a replacement to Asif Ali Zardari, the previous thug and indicted criminal led regime of the few of which Mr. Sharif was an integral part.

This means, the nation will pay with pains, tormenting worries and insane rages of the few egomaniac and perverted rulers who could not THINK right nor lead the nation - the political gangsters and the laughing stalk of the wounded nation and perpetrators of violence and the typical “Right Men” syndrome in its most naked form. Sahrif twice terminated PM on corruption charges and accused by General Musaharf to replace and kill him, could have addressed the issues if he wanted to make a fresh and responsible start in politics. Beginning with “Pakistan: Enigma of Change” in late 90’s, this author has envisaged planned change to make a new beginning only if there were educated and intelligent leaders from the new generation to initiate change and reformation (“islaha”) of the systematic institutionalized corruption prevalent in all aspects of human affairs. Change cannot and will not come out of the nowhere except through men of new ideas, new visionary leadership of integrity and public movement for change. For almost two decades, Pakistan’s capacity for change has been badly fractured and its moral, intellectual and political consciousness and values derailed and undermined by the few. There are three major contending forces escalating conflicts to degenerate the future and cripple the freedom and integrity of Pakistan:

Wall Street Journal Urges War on Syria

May 24th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Perhaps publishing it was strategically timed. It comes with John Kerry in the Middle East. He'll be there through Sunday.

He met with foreign ministers of 11 so-called Friends of Syria countries and opposition group representatives. In Jerusalem, he discussed Syria with Netanyahu.

At the same time, the suspicious Woolrich London killing occurred. Another article suggested a possible false flag. The Journal op-ed urges war on Syria. So did others discussed below.

On May 22, Journal editors gave Jack Keane and Danielle Pletka feature op-ed space. They took full advantage. They headlined "How to Stop Assad's Slaughter."

Keane's a retired general. Formerly he served as US Army's vice chief of staff. Pletka is the American Enterprise Institute's (AEI) foreign and defense policy studies vice president.

On Pollution Trading in the Chesapeake: Congress Should Hear Both Sides of the Story

May 23rd, 2013

Food & Water Watch Executive Director Wenonah Hauter

Washington, DC—“The Water and Wildlife Subcommittee of U.S. Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee is holding a hearing today to hear witnesses testify about water quality trading in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed with Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) presiding as Chair. We are disappointed to note that the witness list included only pro-trading advocates and will be told only one side of the story.

“While Sen. Cardin has been a great champion for the Chesapeake Bay, as well as one of the biggest proponents of the Clean Water Act, it is ironic promoting trading will unravel the Clean Water Act. If Sen. Cardin and the Congress truly want to learn more about pollution trading, we would hope that they would at least consider arguments from both sides.

Israeli Pillar of Cloud War Crimes

May 23rd, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On May 8, B'Tselem published a report titled "Human Rights Violations During Operation Pillar of Defense: 14 - 21 November 2012."

Israel's Operation Pillar of Cloud (aka Cloud Column/Pillar of Defense) was naked, premeditated aggression. Previous articles discussed it.

"And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire; to give them the light; to go by day and night:" Exodus 13.21.

Israel apparently believes Almighty God sanctifies cold-blooded murder. World community inaction lets Israel get away with crimes of war, against humanity and genocide.

Refugee Camps as War Zones, How Lebanon’s Palestinians Are Being Pulled Into Syria’s War

May 23rd, 2013

by FRANKLIN LAMB
Homs Palestinian Refugee Camp

Historically, Palestinian refugees, wherever they have sought temporary sanctuary following the ethnic cleansing of their country by the 19th century Zionist colonial enterprise, and pending their return to Palestine, have insisted on avoiding local and international conflicts while seeking a modicum of interim civil rights from the host countries.

This was true in Jordan during the run up to Black September in 1970, at the beginning of the Lebanese Civil war in 1975, the 1991 Kuwait crisis, the 2003 US invasion of Iraq and obtains especially today in the current crisis in Syria. For a number of reasons including poor tactical decisions by their leadership they have not always succeeded, and consequently they have paid s steep price in lives, jobs, housing and expulsions from host countries.

Iraq Today: America's Imperial Legacy

May 23rd, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

US imperial wars reflect mass slaughter, widespread destruction, ecocide, resource theft, exploitation, unspeakable human pain, suffering and misery, as well as permanent occupation.

Washington came to Iraq to stay. US military and other security elements infest the region. It's the oil and unchallenged Middle East dominance, stupid.

The price of imperial arrogance is unconscionable. Ordinary people bear the cost. Countries are laid waste. Victims suffer most. Iraqis understand.
