Final thoughts on Zionism’s success and Arab failure

May 8th, 2013

MY LAST POST

By Alan Hart

Alan Hart speaking with Yasser Arafat

I am withdrawing from the battlefield of the war for the truth of history as it relates to the making and sustaining of the conflict in and over Palestine that became Israel, and the following is an explanation of why.

More than three decades ago when I made my commitment to this war effort, in the full knowledge that it would make me persona non grata in the eyes of the mainstream media I had served with some distinction, I believed that the single most amazing thing about the conflict was Zionism’s success in selling its propaganda lies - lies which were told not only to justify anything and everything the Zionist (not Jewish) State of Israel did and does, but also to establish and fix the boundaries of what could and could not be discussed in public discourse about Israel’s policies and actions. (I mean what could and could not be discussed by non-Jews, Europeans and Americans especially, if they didn’t want to be terrorized by smears and false charges of anti-Semitism which could result in them losing their positions and jobs).

Washington’s Presumption

May 8th, 2013

Paul Craig Roberts

The new president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, is cast in Chavez’s mold. On May 4, he called US president Obama the “grand chief of devils.”

Obama, who has betrayed democracy in America, unleashing execution on American citizens without due process of law and war without the consent of Congress, provoked Maduro’s response by suggesting that Maduro’s newly elected government might be fraudulent. Obviously, Obama is piqued that the millions of dollars his administration spent trying to elect an American puppet instead of Maduro failed to do the job.

If anyone has accurately summed up Washington, it is the Venezuelans.

Who can forget Chevez standing at the podium of the UN General Assembly in New York City speaking of George W. Bush? Quoting from memory: “Right here, yesterday, at this very podium stood Satan himself, speaking as if he owned the world. You can still smell the sulphur.”

Yair Shamir: Profile of Israeli Extremism

May 8th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

He's a former IDF officer. He's now an Israeli politician and businessman. He's former Prime Minister Yitzhak's son. He's named after Avraham "Yair" Stern.

In 1940, he founded the terrorist Lehi group. It's commonly called the Stern Gang. During WW II, it offered to help Nazi Germany and fascist Italy against Britain.

In return, it sought transfer of occupied European Jews to Palestine. It wanted a Jewish state based on "nationalist and totalitarian principles."

Yair's father, Yitzhak, was one of Lehi's leaders. It was more extremist than Irgun. In 1942, after British forces killed Stern, he, Nathan Friedman-Yellin, and Israel Sheib comprised its troika leadership.

Pawns Are Always Expendable When Played

May 7th, 2013

By Vincent L. Guarisco

"You sit at the board and suddenly your heart leaps. Your hand trembles to pick up the piece and move it. But what Chess teaches you is that you must sit there calmly and think about whether it's really a good idea and whether there are other better ideas." ~~Stanley Kubrick

Chess is a crafty old game -- one that's been played throughout the ages. When I was a young lad in my Junior year of High School, I was quite good at it. In fact, I became my school champion. Indeed, I wanted to be the next grand-master like my mentor, "Bobby Fischer."

In 1974, Fischer's match against the Russian Spassky was seen as the Match of the Century -- East v. West. Soon after, Fisher resigned from chess after a bout with the body politic. It was then that I realized a simple game that I adored could be exploited for political reasons. In 1992, Bobby came out of exile to replay Spassky in Yugoslavia. This outraged some Americans (but not me) as it was declared a breach of a bogus UN embargo. Evading arrest, in July 2004, he successfully got political asylum in Iceland. He remained there until his death in 2008. May the champ rest in peace...

Aw, Snap!

May 7th, 2013

From: Timothy Gatto

Aw Snap! I knew it! It was the rebels in Syria that used Sarin Gas, according to the UN. Now what will Lindsay Graham and John McCain say? I mean how stupid does that make them look?

Of course they will say we can't believe the United Nations reports. We should trust them. I recently talked to some South Carolinians at my local gun dealer and the people down there were laughing out loud. Can you imagine that? They were telling this New York Liberal that Lindsay and John were crazy to want to arm the rebels!

That is the word on the street. This is coming from the reddest area of the country. Most people down here think the rebels are all affiliated with Al Qaida. Somehow, the message that the right is trying to put out, that we should get involved in Syria is just not getting out down here. Most people that I talk to believe that the United States should just stay out of this terrible mess.

BBC's Longstanding Pro-Israeli Bias

May 7th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Since 1922, BBC's first general manager, John Reith, explained his mandate. UK officials "know they can trust us not be be really impartial," he said.

It's a reliable business/government partner. Earlier it was called the "British Falsehood Corporation." More recently it's been known as the "British Bombing (or Bombast) Club."

Its claim about "honesty, integrity (being) what the BBC stands for, free from political influence and commercial pressure" doesn't wash. It never did.

UK-based Media Lens offers independent, "authoritative criticism." Its reports reflect "reality." It's free from corporate or government influence.

It once called BBC reporting fundamentally one-sided, imbalanced, "biased, blinkered and culpable."

She makes you sick, takes your money, then bumps you off

That's what Blythe Masters of JPMorgan does based on evidence from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and JPMorgan's recent history. (Image: UCS)

Coal power is the leading source carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. CO2 is the leading cause of climate change. Once airborne, the man made filth sticks around for 2 to 20 centuries. In addition, coal power is "a leading cause of smog, acid rain, and toxic air pollution."

All that makes us sick reflected in a an annual health care price tag of $333 to $500 billion in costs for heart and lung diseases, for example. Tens of thousands die from those diseases eery year.

America and Israel: Imperial Partners in Crime (Part II)

May 6th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

In late January, Lebanese military sources reported multiple Israeli violations of Lebanon's airspace. One or more targets on the Syrian-Lebanese border were struck.

Around the same time, Israeli warplanes attacked a military research center in Jamraya. It's about 10 miles from the Lebanese border. Early Sunday morning, Israel struck it again.

On May 5, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) headlined "Explosions Hit Scientific Research Center in Jamraya Caused by an Israeli Rocket Attack, Casualties Reported."

Google Recognizes Palestinian Statehood

May 6th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On May 1, Google recognized Palestine. It did so on its homepage. Earlier it referred to "The Palestinian Territories." More on that below.

On January 4, Abbas' presidential decree acknowledged the State of Palestine. It followed gaining UN nonmember observer status.

"All Palestinian stamps, signs and official letterhead will henceforth be changed to bear the new name."

Acknowledging Palestinian statehood stopped short of governing responsibly. Abbas is a longtime Israeli collaborator. It took him 24 years to accept what his silence rejects.

Moral expediency. The US, Israel and Al Qaeda in Syria

May 6th, 2013

by Phil Greaves

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/robert-fisk-the-truth-is-that-after-israels-air-strikes-we-are-involved-8604593.html

Recent Israeli airstrikes on Damascus have once again shed light on a defining western-led policy when it comes to the Middle East: strategic moral expediency. Once again, the counterproductive, and age-old policy of: “the enemy of my enemy: is my friend,” crops up in the realm of western foreign policy in the Middle East.

What is so counterintuitive for most, or, what most of the western “news” media are subverting or pretending not to recognise: is the recent Israeli strikes prove outright that Israel, acting on behalf of the US, is fighting on the same side as Al Qaeda in Syria. Western efforts to bolster supposed ‘moderate rebels’ have clearly only bolstered what has always been the main demographic of the militant ‘opposition’: Salafi/Jihaddi inspired and fomented militias, that do not espouse anything close to democracy. Apart from the obvious clash of religious ideology, strategically speaking, actually ousting Assad is where the radical Islamic militants and Bibi may differ. Bibi and Co. would no doubt be more than happy to see a much weakened Assad Government stay in some sort of power, and allow the Syrian conflict to rumble on for twenty years. Ideally, for Israel and the US the aim is a ‘Balkanized’ array of weak statelets. What Israel and the US do not want, is a strong and stable Syria, or Levant, or Greater Middle East for that matter; unless those ‘strong’ states fall under the auspices of the USA. (eg: KSA, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Jordan, Turkey et al)
