Israel’s Doomsday E-1 Settlement

December 6th, 2012

By Nicola Nasser

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has definitely crossed an international red line to vindicate a swift and firm rejection from Israel’s closest allies when he announced plans recently to build a new settlement on a corridor of occupied Palestinian land in East Jerusalem, which will render any prospective Palestinian contiguous state territorially impossible. Daniel Seidemann, the Israeli founder of Terrestrial Jerusalem, has condemned it as “the doomsday settlement” and “not a routine” one.

Netanyahu risks a diplomatic confrontation that will not develop into a diplomatic isolation of Israel because Israel’s allies have decided to pressure him to backtrack by “incentives and disincentives” instead of “sanctions,” in the words of the British Foreign Secretary William Hague.

Israel: Heading for a Political Cliff?

December 6th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Middle East expert Patrick Seale knows the region well. He's covered it for over four decades. On December 4, he said:

He "rarely encountered such detestation of Israel, such thirst for revenge and such rage at its superpower patron. (It's) bubbling beneath the surface like molten lava."

How can tiny Israel "defy hundreds of millions of Arabs, Iranians and Turks and the vast Muslim world beyond? Only the United States can save Israel from the suicidal folly of its leaders."

Rage holds back only so long. Oppressed people eventually rebel. Israel's moment of truth awaits. US support delays its day of reckoning.

Israel and Palestine: Man in Search of Humanity

December 5th, 2012

Mahboob A. Khawaja, PhD

All wars are waged for profits and plunder and constitute crimes against humanity. History tells the truth that herd like passion perpetuates warmongering - killing of the same mankind. The ongoing conflicts between Israel and Palestinian people are no exception but camouflaged record of absurd lies, deceptions and failed leadership. If intelligent leaders were to come in the future, coming generations might term it absurd and utterly foolish that while Jews and Muslims had so much in common; they lived in distrust and wasted time and energies during decades-old fear of the unknown. They breathe the same oxygen so close but find themselves operative in conflicting time zones. The mankind is paying with pains to systematic conflict-making and conflict-keeping policies maintained and applauded by the leading military powers of the globe. Man and humanity are striving to survive against manipulative and highly dangerous military odds, not seen in the living history. Nobody can predict with certainty how the future will unfold for peace and co-existence, not just in the predominantly Arab Middle East but its uncontrollable consequences for the whole of the mankind.

Venezuelans Vote Again

December 5th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

In America, money power controls elections. People have no say. Each party replicates the other. Venezuela is different.

Voters take full advantage. They choose real democrats over fake ones. It shows in how Venezuelans are governed.

On October 7, they reelected Chavez overwhelmingly. On December 16, they'll vote again in regional elections. At stake are 23 regional governorships and 229 local legislative positions.

Currently, Chavez's United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) controls 17 of 23 states. Key opposition candidates represent the Roundtable of Democratic Unity (MUD) coalition.

NNC News Interviews Lendman

December 5th, 2012

Stephen Lendman

NNC's Iman Soleimani conducted the interview. He did another last October.

US foreign policy, its phony war on terror, its human rights record, imperial wars, belligerent diplomacy, and anti-Iranian agenda were discussed.

NNC (Namavaran Network Corporation) initially operated as a cultural and publishing institute. It trained bilingual journalists working with foreign media.

More recently it began "giving press service(es) to foreign media by recruiting its trained journalists."

It's now one of Iran's largest media operations. It works collaboratively with major TV and News services.

Questions and answers are below. Editing was done as needed. Final comments follow.

Are Israel’s Jews, some of them, on their way to becoming Nazis?

December 4th, 2012

By Alan Hart

Some and perhaps many will regard my headline question as offensive but I make no apology for asking it; and I take comfort from the fact that my decision to pose it is fully supported by one of my very dear Jewish friends - Nazi holocaust survivor Dr. Hajo Meyer.

Before I ran my proposed headline past him, I was well aware that he believes, and has said in public, that Zionism is seeking to dehumanize the Palestinians in the same way the Nazis sought to dehumanize him in the Auschwitz concentration camp.

An Apology from Canada to Palestine and the Rest of the World: The 10 Most Shameful Minutes in Canadian History

December 3rd, 2012

by chycho

On 29 November 2012, John Baird, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Canada, addressed the United Nations General Assembly on the Question of Palestine. Below you will find the video in which he accuses UN of abandoning its principles by recognizing Palestine.

Most Canadians are embarrassed and utterly disgusted with what our Conservative government has done. Unfortunately, because of our ’First Past the Post’ electoral system and the bitter reality that a majority government can do anything they want, we can’t do much about it, at least not until the next elections. When that time comes, we promise to do our best to remove from power these fanatics who have shamed Canada and put us on the wrong side of history.

Susan Rice's Imperial Credentials

December 3rd, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

She's favored to replace Hillary Clinton next year as secretary of state. Obama calls her "extraordinary." She matches the current incumbent's bullying, bluster and arrogance.

Both deplore peace, nonviolence, and social justice. They're pro-war, contemptuous of rule of law principles, and brazenly anti-democratic.

They represent wrong over right. They're war criminals multiple times over. They're indifferent to human suffering. They disgrace America and humanity.

A December 1 Alaska Dispatch headline asked, "What's so wrong with Susan Rice's bid for Secretary of State?" Christian Science Monitor contributor Brad Knickerbocker's article followed, saying:

If Obama nominates her as many expect, she'll already "have undergone a blistering public vetting." Perhaps so, but for lots of the wrong reasons.

Waging War on Palestine

December 3rd, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Palestinians know what they're up against. UN success changed nothing on the ground. Daily Israeli state terror continues. World leaders do nothing to help.

Rhetorical Palestinian support rings hollow. Americans like to say: Put your money where your mouth is. World leaders able to change things put theirs on Israel. They're complicit with US/Israeli imperial crimes.

They spurn Palestinian rights. Their suffering continues daily. On December 1, Israeli soldiers shot two more Gazans.

“Legal Imperialism” and International Law: Legal Foundations for War Crimes, Debt Collection and Colonization

December 3rd, 2012

James Petras

Introduction

By now we are familiar with imperial states using their military power to attack, destroy and occupy independent countries. Boatloads of important studies have documented how imperial countries have seized and pillaged the resources of mineral-rich and agriculturally productive countries, in consort with multi-national corporations. Financial critics have provided abundant data on the ways in which imperial creditors have extracted onerous rents, royalties and debt payments from indebted countries and their taxpayers, workers, employees and productive sectors.

What has not been examined fully is the over-arching legal architecture which informs, justifies and facilitates imperial wars, pillage and debt collection.
