The Russian government will intensify efforts to cut the country’s dependence on US payment systems and the dollar as a settling currency, said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov on Monday, as quoted by RIA Novosti. “We will, of course, speed up the work on import substitution, reduce dependence on US payment systems, on the dollar as a settling currency and so on. Law enforcement in the US wants to be able to identify and track all unmanned vehicles in the sky. Meanwhile, the military was given the green light to shoot down private drones.
American law enforcement agencies oppose the government’s plans to allow extensive unmanned flights until federal regulators come up with requirements for the drones to be registered and tracked.

The UN Security Council has unanimously agreed on a new set of restrictive measures against Pyongyang following the North Korea's latest missile tests. Having reaffirmed the UN's previous stance on the issue, the international body further sanctioned several of North Korea's exports.
The US-drafted resolution bans North Korean exports of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood.
It also prohibits increasing the current numbers of North Korean laborers working abroad, new joint ventures with Pyongyang and new investment in joint ventures.
Nikita Smith filed a lawsuit against the Detroit Police Department after they killed her three dogs during a raid of her home in search of pot last year. On Wednesday, a judge absurdly ruled the dogs were considered “contraband,” noting that Smith had no legal basis to sue the police department for shooting and killing her dogs, due to the canines not having been properly licensed.

Although the US government has not yet made the final decision to apply sanctions against state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), the potential consequences for the troubled South American petro-state would be enormous. PDVSA produces and ships about 2.6 million barrels of oil a day, of which it sells to the United States about 780,000 barrels.Suspending the import of Venezuelan oil by the United States, would cause Venezuela to lose one of its largest trading partners and the only country that pays cash for the product.

Foreigners from 18 countries can now visit the Russian Far East using electronic visas which are issued online and take three days to receive, the Ministry for the Development of Eastern Regions reports. “People who use the electronic visas can enter Russia through border crossing points in the Vladivostok sea port and in Vladivostok International Airport Knevichi. Spanish authorities have managed to dissolve an international crime ring which was smuggling Iranian nationals into the UK on commercial flights. The operation was supported by London's Metropolitan Police and Europol. 101 people were arrested in the operation, Europol announced in a Thursday statement. Fourteen members of the group were detained by the Spanish National Police in Málaga, along with 42 people accused of selling their Spanish documents to members of the smuggling ring for €500 to €3,000 (US$592 to $3,554).

Ukrainian state-owned energy firm Centrenergo has signed a contract with America's Xcoal Energy & Resources to supply 700,000 tons of coal to Ukraine this year. Ukraine is a coal-rich country. However, over 50 percent of its coal resources are in the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Lugansk. Despite the military conflict in the eastern regions, coal supplies continued until March this year. Then, coal supplies completely stopped after Ukrainian nationalists blockaded railroads from the self-proclaimed republics.

Researchers were shocked to discover that a trash island floating in the South Pacific Ocean may be close to a million square miles in area. The current has gathered millions of tons of waste into one spot in the ocean to form a garbage pile that, if it were a country, would be the 30th largest in the world.

A number of police officers were injured in Venezuela's capital Caracas after an explosion during an anti-government protest decrying a vote for a constituent assembly on Sunday. Authorities confirmed there were two deaths on Saturday, including the killing of a candidate to the assembly during a robbery, while the opposition put the total death toll in Saturday's protests at five.
