US police have issued an urgent public alert after a spate of deaths from a drug so potent it can kill anyone who touches it. The opioid known as furanyl fentanyl – a version of the powerful synthetic painkiller fentanyl – can cause a fatal overdose just by being absorbed through the skin. It’s reportedly caused 19 deaths in the state of Georgia over the last year.

New York City scooped up $993 million in fines in 2016, driven by a spike in quality of life violations. The fines show a 22 percent increase in revenue since 2013, according to the city comptroller. City officials handed out nearly 700,000 “quality of life” fines in 2016,include violations such as littering and noise pollution, sidewalk violations and public health and safety violations. Parking tickets and traffic violations are the lead revenue generator for fines, 11 million tickets in a given year, 55 percent of all fines, total of $545 million.

Ceasefire guarantor states Russia, Iran and Turkey have adopted a memorandum on the creation of four security zones in Syria, during peace talks in the Kazakh capital of Astana. Checkpoints and observation posts are to be positioned along the de-escalation lines within the safe zones, according to the document. Rabobank in the Netherlands is hiring security personnel to stand guard at its ATMs at night to reduce the number of bombing attacks on cash machines. A Texas police officer who fired a rifle into a car full of teenagers in a Dallas suburb on Saturday night, killing a black teenager, was fired on Tuesday, the police chief of the Balch Springs Police Department said. Chief Jonathan Haber: officer, Roy Oliver, had violated numerous department policies and terminated his employment after an internal investigation into the shooting.
