The last minute signing of the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill in the US is a big windfall for the Pentagon, who will be getting the majority of the money, in the realm of $700 billion. This includes 14 new ships, 28 new helicopters, and 56 of the costly F-35 warplanes. This $700 billion does not include other military-related spending, including the VA.
This is part of a $61 billion spending increase over the previous year, and virtually every aspect of the Pentagon is getting more money, more equipment, higher pay, and general boosts in funding.

The rally, organized by student victims of gun violence, is one of 700 events taking place across the US. Similar marches are being held in 700 cities across the country, with more than 10,000 people expected in New York and 50,000 in Los Angeles. There are a further 140 events being held in up to 37 countries, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Japan and across Europe.

37 people are reported to have died in a fire that tore through a shopping mall in the Siberian city of Kemerovo.
Russian media say dozens more are missing, children believed to be among them.
The blaze started on the fourth floor of the Winter Cherry building, Russia's Sputnik news site reports.
Video posted on social media showed smoke billowing from windows as fire crews worked to evacuate the property.
People were also seen jumping from windows to escape the flames on Sunday.

China has reportedly provided Pakistan with a highly advanced optical tracking system, which will be a boon to its missile program. The move is an apparent poke in the eye of India, which is becoming China’s main regional rival.
The delivery of the system was reported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in a statement, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on Thursday. It was a rare occasion for Beijing to publicly confirm the export of sensitive military equipment that may stir controversy in other nations. The deal, the statement said, was the first of its kind supplied by China to a foreign buyer.
China to bar people with bad 'social credit' from planes, trains
China said it will begin applying its social credit system to flights and trains and stop people who have committed misdeeds from taking such transport for up to a year. People who would be put on the restricted lists included those found to have committed acts like spreading false information about terrorism and causing trouble on flights, as well as those who used expired tickets or smoked on trains, Those found to have committed financial wrongdoings, such as employers who failed to pay social insurance or people who have failed to pay fines, would also face these restrictions. The rules come into effect on May 1.
The move is in line with President’s Xi Jinping’s plan to construct a social credit system based on the principle of “once untrustworthy, always restricted.
