On Thursday, AP News said “Republican leaders had agreed to hold votes on Democrat-backed measures to expand background checks and prevent suspected terrorists from acquiring guns.”
They’re almost as easy to buy as toothpaste. America’s racist drug laws haven’t curbed their availability and easy access.
The nation awash in weapons reflects its longstanding culture of violence, mostly state-sponsored - waging wars in the name of peace every year since the republic’s inception, at home and/or abroad, largely against invented enemies, claiming countless millions of lives.
Peace and stability are abhorred, wars of aggression glorified, the nation’s pastime, masquerading as humanitarian intervention and democracy building. Pacifism is considered sissy and unpatriotic.
False notions of exceptionalism and moral superiority force our ways on others globally. Unaccountable killer cops turned US streets into battlegrounds, killing 1,000 or more innocent victims annually, mostly people of color.
Heavily armed militarized police operate like combat troops against targeted communities - authorized to kill with impunity. Where’s the outrage? Why aren’t laws enacted to protect ordinary citizens from the abuses of their government - at the federal, state and local levels?
America’s rage to dominate threatens everyone, more police state than free society, waging war on humanity.
Gun control legislation, if enacted, won’t curb America’s megalomaniacal hegemonic aims - threatening life on earth if not challenged and stopped.
