Why Pope Benedict Will be Forced to Resign

May 8th, 2010

Sancho E. Jones

Just Because the Vatican Doesn't Hold the Clergy Responsible, Doesn't Mean the Membership Won't

After centuries of torture, genocide and even siding with Nazi Germany, why would the abuse scandal result in the Catholic Church forcing Pope Benedict XVI to step down? Why weren't other more heinous acts punished?

This time, there is going to be hell to pay.

It isn't that the Vatican finds priests raping children to be particularly troublesome, or violating the sanctity of the confessional to be worthy of punishment, even breaking the law isn't of much concern. It will be something more fundamental that will bring down the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.

Systemic Injustice Against Two Longtime Political Prisoners

May 8th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

Their names - Marshall "Eddie" Conway and Romaine "Chip" Fitzgerald, both activist COINTELPRO-targeted Black Panther members, unjustly imprisoned for four decades for crimes they didn't commit.

They're two of many targeted Panthers, victims of COINTELPRO viciousness, "dirty tricks," after J. Edgar Hoover's orders to infiltrate, disrupt, sabotage, and destroy their activist mission for ethnic justice, racial emancipation, and real economic, social, and political equality across gender and color lines.

Either way, Zionists win in Britain’s confused election

May 8th, 2010

Stuart Littlewood

The battle of the Israel stooges in Britain’s general election has ended inconclusively in what's called a "hung parliament" - i.e. no overall winner.

We can now expect a few days of horse-trading between David "I'm-a-Zionist" Cameron, Gordon “Me-too” Brown to see which stooge can form a credible government.

But regardless of who finally enters Number 10 Downing Street the real winners will be the Zionists.

Either party chief will ensure Israel has a staunch friend who’s faithful to the thuggish regime. Cameron and Brown are both patrons of the Jewish National Fund and have surrounded themselves with lieutenants who are equally supportive of the Zionist entity's lawless expansion and barbaric conduct. Their loyalty to the British Crown is of course suspect, nevertheless many of them will occupy ministerial or key posts, especially in the Foreign Office and on intelligence, security and defence committees, as was the case under the previous Labour administration.

THE RIVERS OF DEATH / AN AMERICAN CHERNOBYL?

May 7th, 2010

Allen L Roland

The exploding Rivers of Death are flowing in the Gulf and have the potential to be America's Chernobyl ~ a living testament to America's addiction to oil, deregulation and top down negligence starting with Dick Cheney and the notorious Mineral Management Service:

Who, besides BP, is ultimately responsible for these exploding rivers of death in the Gulf which may well be on their way to becoming America's Chernobyl?

GLASS-STEAGALL The Constitutional Solution To Goldman Sachs' Criminality

May 7th, 2010

by Nancy Spannaus

May 3—Franklin Delano Roosevelt would have cracked one of his broad, infectious smiles, had he been present at Sen. Carl Levin's (D-Mich.) interrogation of four Goldman Sachs executive shysters on April 27. Having invoked the image of the dramatic 1933 Pecora Commission the previous day, Levin proceeded in the same spirit as the feisty Ferdinand Pecora, pulling out document after document which demonstrated the systemic, sleazy criminality of the investment bank—which, incidentally, had succeeded in eluding successful prosecution back in 1933. Levin kept Lloyd "Doing God's Work" Blankfein on the stand for nearly four hours, exposing his arrogant, sanctimonious attitude toward the criminal looting which Goldman carried out against the American population.

The Angola Three: 38 Years in Prison Hell

May 7th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

On March 30, 2010, an Amnesty International (AI) Public Statement read:

"USA: Amnesty International calls for immediate end to nearly 73 years of solitary confinement endured by Louisiana prisoners Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox."

Both men are at the Louisiana State Penitentiary (called Angola and The Farm) - in terms of acreage, America's largest prison, a maximum security one with over 5,000 inmates and 1,800 staff members on 18,000 acres. Once a slave plantation, it's the same now as then, and it's legal under the 13th Amendment stating:

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

National Campaign: Mobilize for OUR Economy Launched

May 7th, 2010

Kevin Zeese

As Senate Says 'No' To Breaking Up Big Banks and Waters Down Audit of Fed...

The campaign will be protesting Big Finance and Urging Real Reform of the Financial System

Washington, DC: A coalition of advocacy groups have announced a broad-based Mobilization for Our Economy (see www.forOUReconomy.org), a grass roots campaign to wrest control of our economy from the big banks, crony capitalists and financial elites.

The group will be targeting the Federal Reserve system and the "Too Big to Fail" banks -- JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo -- with a wide range of ongoing protests.

While the Mobilization is timed with consideration of the so-called financial reform bill, the organizers see the current proposal being considered as an insufficient measure that will allow business as usual to continue in the financial industry that brought the nation to economic collapse and has stolen trillions of dollars in national wealth through the bailouts from the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department.

Understanding the US Financial Crisis, Why Banking Regulations are a Temporary Fix

May 6th, 2010

Part #3 of Understanding Capitalism and Socialism

by Joaquin

With the great financial crisis of 2007-2010 all over except for the screaming and yelling; and the yelling and screaming is over because oil spilled all over it; and with the oil spill all over because someone parked a SUV with toy timers on it in Manhattan; it's time to understand how the financial crisis was solved; so let's get started. By the way, aren't we all glad the financial crisis is over? Well except in Greece and maybe Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Italy and the UK; don't forget California and other bankrupt states, counties, municipalities, and your parent's pension; not to mention a giant national debt that is ballooning out of control; but yeah otherwise the financial crisis is over. How do we know its over? Well, just turn on the financial news anywhere and you will hear that the recovery is in full swing except for people having jobs and buying houses. The crisis is so over that it has been over and over. I mean if you Google "housing market has bottomed" you can find out that the housing market has bottomed out constantly since 2006.

Oil Gusher in Gulf: Energy Gluttony, not Oil Addiction, is Greater Challenge

May 6th, 2010

by Jan Lundberg

It's crazy that everyone was blindsided by the unprecedented BP oil rig explosion and oil well disaster, when it or a similar event had to happen eventually. Indeed, we now have a "new" wrinkle for petrocollapse. Petrocollapse has mostly referred to the effects of peak oil, but all is ecological in the final analysis.

Most people paying attention to the world at large know that millions of gallons of crude oil have been loosed, still gushing uncontrollably, threatening not only the Gulf of Mexico but beyond. Our report suggests more than clean-up and better oversite: the Committee Against Oil Exploration.

Palestinian Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons

May 6th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

Established in 1998, the Badil Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights (BRC) "defend(s) and promote(s) the rights of Palestinian refugees and IDPs (to) advance (their) collective rights." In January 2010, BRC published a report titled, "Survey of Palestinian Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, 2008 - 2009."

Its web site explains the problem:

-- Palestinian refugees and IDPs are "the largest and longest-standing case of forced displacement in the world today;"

-- in 2007, of a global 9.8 million Palestinians, about seven million are refugees and another 450,000 internally displaced;
