Fuck Compassion: We whack ’em and stack ’em!

June 21st, 2009

By Jason Miller

Despite pleas to save the animals, Johnson County officials will employ sharpshooters and bow hunters to solve the problem of too many deer in Shawnee Mission Park.

–The Kansas City Star, June 17, 2009

Daniel Whitesel says he is forced to traverse a “literal minefield of deer poop” when he plays golf nearby.

He can watch from his home office as whitetail deer devastate his flowers and shrubs. “They walk down the street like taxpayers,” he said.

Twelve Angry White People: Jury Nullification in a Pennsylvania Coal Town

June 21st, 2009

by Walter Brasch

Luis Eduardo Ramirez-Zavalo, 25, died in June 2008 after a beating by
a gang of drunken Shenandoah Valley Pa., High School football players.

The Schuylkill County, Pa., justice system managed to do something that insurance actuaries do with mixed results--it determined not only the penalty for threats to a human life, but also the value of a human life.

  • Norman E. Nickle, 54, who lived in Pottsville, the county seat, was sentenced in April to two life terms, without possibility of parole after he pled no contest to killing two teens the previous year. Nickle's only defense was that he was high on drugs and alcohol at the time of the murders.
  • Jarrid Finneran, of Shenandoah, was sentenced to 2-1/2 to five years in prison after a jury convicted him in December 2007 of pushing his girlfriend in front of a car. Finneran said that the incident was the result of an accident, was not deliberate, and that he and the victim continued their relationship after the incident. The jury, however, convicted him of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and disorderly conduct.
  • Kyle J. Bluge, 23, of Frackville, admitted he shook a baby in April 2008 to try to stop the boy from crying. A pediatrician testified that the physical abuse resulted in significant brain injuries. Bluge, who will be sentenced Aug. 5, could face 10 to 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine for aggravated assault.

Wag The Dog–Israel Threatens “Punishment” Against the US

    June 21st, 2009

    Mark Glenn

“Israel leveling sanctions against the United States”–It sounds like a skit on Saturday Night Live or some theme in a science fiction story that defies all known norms of reality.

Nevertheless, that is exactly what has been proposed recently by at least one well-known minister of Knesset, Yossi Peled of Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party.

Similar in appearance to some KGB-produced indictment that in darker times would have been used in charging, convicting and then executing an individual classified as an enemy of the state, the 11-page letter written and then personally given to Netanyahu by his colleague asserts that the new America governed by President Obama has now become “hostile” to the Jewish state. By insisting Israel abide by the same international law that other countries are invaded and then destroyed for flouting, Peled maintains that a “turning point” has arrived in America’s approach to the region and especially “to Israel“ and that “the new diplomatic slant” being used to “pacify the Muslim world” and the adoption of a more balanced approach to Israel” constitutes a clear and present danger to the Jewish state that must be met with action.

    The language that absolves Israel

    June 21st, 2009

    Saree Makdisi

On Sunday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech that -- by categorically ruling out the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state -- ought to have been seen as a mortal blow to the quest for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

On Monday morning, however, newspaper headlines across the United States announced that Netanyahu had endorsed the creation of a Palestinian state, and the White House welcomed the speech as "an important step forward."

Reality can be so easily stood on its head when it comes to Israel because the misreading of Israeli declarations is a long-established practice among commentators and journalists in the United States.

In fact, a special vocabulary has been developed for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the United States. It filters and structures the way in which developing stories are misread here, making it difficult for readers to fully grasp the nature of those stories -- and maybe even for journalists to think critically about what they write. The ultimate effect of this special vocabulary is to make it possible for Americans to accept and even endorse in Israel what they would reject out of hand in any other country. Let me give a classic example.

Freedom, clarity & the Western defenders of the Iranian Revolution

    June 20th, 2009

    R. B. Johannessen

The official figures show that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won some 62.6% of the vote in an election marked by a high turnout of 85%. These numbers are suspicious. They may be genuine, but then again they may be fraudulent. -How are we to know?

And then this: ”Death to America!”, ”Death to Israel!” and ”Death to Great Britain!” –Yes Ayatollah Khamenei does sound like Napoleon in Orwell’s ”Animal Farm”. -Why is this so?

    1. Permanent war footing

Without going too far back, we want to mention the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran where the British and the Soviets invaded Iran in August/September 1941, the purpose of which was to secure Iranian oil fields and ensure supply lines. Iran was neutral and the enemy of no one, but the US and Britain wanted to secure Iranian oil for themselves. They ”feared” the Abadan Oil Refinery, owned by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, might fall into German hands. They attacked a peaceful country pre-emptively and for reasons of greed.

A few years later, it was about oil again. The popular Mohammad Mossadeq was elected prime minister and promptly started talking about nationalizing Iranian oil…The British would have nothing of it. They conspired with the US. Operation TPAJAX (Operation Ajax) was set in motion and Mossadeq was toppled in August 1953. A tragedy in itself, because this was a period where looking back we can see the possible development of Iran into a fully fledged democracy. It was not to be.

HALT CHENEY'S AND NOW OBAMA'S COVERT IRAN OPERATIONS

    June 20th, 2009

    Allen L Roland

Protestor killed by Iran government forces (Twitter)

In March of 2002 Dick Cheney appointed his own daughter Elizabeth to head a shadow operation (ISOG) whose covert purpose was to fund dissident groups in Iran ~ money which may have been used to fund and arm terrorists. Obama has now evidently picked up where the Cheney's left off:

If you have any doubt that a shadow Cheney presidency existed during the last eight years that cast its evil over everything from the 9/11cover-up to Quantanamo ~ than picture Dick Cheney appointing his own daughter in 2002 to head up a secretive organization in Iran whose purpose was to fund terrorists ~ and which reported directly to Darth Vader himself, Dick Cheney. And why would Cheney appoint his own daughter ? Because she was the only person he could trust on his, self declared, journey to the dark side for she certainly would not testify against him. They both are now neck deep in deception and lies which is why they are openly defending their actions together on the mainstream TV circuit.

The Uighurs, Guantanamo, Cuba and Palestine

    June 19th, 2009

    Christopher King

Christopher King argues that the Guantanamo torture facility offers the world a glimpse into “the dark heart” and the truth of the United States. It is, he says, “a clear example of behaviour beyond criminality into a region of inhumanity so dark it has never been named”.

The Guantanamo Bay torture facility, intentionally outside law, its associated kidnapping and torture both on site and by arrangement with other countries, is the dark heart, the truth of the “Land of the free and the home of the brave”. If you know about Guantanamo, you know how little law, decency and human rights truly mean to the United States, because the old excuse of “a few bad apples” that was used for Abu-Ghraib among others, doesn’t wash here. It’s all offical government policy from the president down. And it’s still open on Barack Obama’s watch.

Views from Iran, e-mails from an Iranian

    June 19th, 2009

    Emily Spence

(Tuesday, 16 June 2009) By Vahab, e-mails from an Iranian

    Emily,

Internet very very slow here. Almost non-existent. Yesterday it was not connected at all. Also cell-phones are faulty most of the times. SMS messages are totally off.

Last night, they started to dismount satellite dishes from the roof tops, disconnecting Iranians from satellite TV (outer world). The religious dictatorship is trying to block any effective communication path between people inside Iran and between Iran and outside world.

Evidence for a New Nuremberg: Obama's Nazi Health Plan

    June 19th, 2009

    by Nancy Spannaus

June 4—When the Obama economic team, dominated by the larcenous economics advisor Larry Summers, and murderous accountant and Budget Director Peter Orszag, launched their offensive to ram through the Administration's Nazi health "reform" June 2, they thought they would have their day. Instead, they found themselves confronted and exposed as the purveyors of a Hitler genocide plan, that would condemn millions of Americans to death, as having what Hitler called "lives not worthy to be lived."

The Obama team showed no shame. Again and again, burnished under a patina of bureaucratic jargon, they demanded hundreds of millions of dollars in cuts for the most vulnerable of American citizens, insisted upon stopping so-called unnecessary medical care for as much as a third of the American population, and put their version of fiscal health before the lives of people. While they brazenly pour trillions of dollars of Federal monies into the very banking institutions which have brought the world economy to its knees, they tell American citizens, particularly those on Medicare and Medicaid, that they are "overconsuming" health care, and have to be stopped, "for their own good."
