Greek Rape and Pillage Bailout Deal: Germany Wants More

August 18th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Judas SYRIZA officials already agreed to perhaps the most severe neoliberal harshness measures ever imposed on a country other than conquered ones raped and pillaged by war.

Not enough says German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble. He demands more. The Financial Times said his ministry sent Eurozone counterparts a paper outlining his objections.

They’re scheduled to meet on Friday to decide whether to accept or reject already agreed on bailout terms. Germany’s finance ministry “denied that it was rejecting the deal and said it was only raising ‘some open questions that need to be addressed in the euro group,’ “ said the FT. They include “delays in planned reforms, debt sustainability and the role of the International Monetary Fund…” Schauble is especially concerned about an agreed on 50 billion euro privatization scheme to be administered by German bank KfW he runs - as well as Greece’s ability to service its impossible to repay 320 billion euro foreign debt.

John Kerry Lectures Cubans About Democracy

August 18th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Kerry represents US imperial arrogance, rogue state ruthlessness rejecting democracy worldwide - especially at home.

US elections when held are farcical. Ordinary people have no say whatever. Big money-controlled duopoly power rules.

All so-called elections turn out the same way. Business as usual always triumphs. Things go from bad to worse. Neocons infesting Washington threaten world peace.

Alleged US normalization with Cuba is a thinly veiled scheme to recolonize the island state, steal its resources, exploit its people and open its markets without restrictions to US corporate predators.

Kerry berated Cuban “policies of the past that have not led to a democratic transition” - code language for capitulating to US hegemonic rule unconditionally. He laughably claimed “the United State will remain a champion of democratic principles and reforms” - democracy solely for the privileged few, “reforms” meaning replacing social justice with neoliberal harshness.

Let's sing a song of freedom….. ‘Hunt’ is NOT a Democracy

August 17th, 2015

Lalit Shukla

In second half of year 2009, Indian State launched ‘Operation Green Hunt (OGH)’ to fight its own most underprivileged people because they are resisting illegal undemocratic corporate mining. Manmohan Singh, then prime minister and man of World Bank to carry forward neoliberal agenda to open Indian markets for multinational corporate companies, described their resistance as “the biggest internal security challenge” because they are asking for their fundamental right of existence. This voice of resistance is not good for the climate for investment, P. Chidambaram told to Parliament explaining necessity of mining of tremendous natural resources of minerals as before being finance minister he represented several mining companies in his carrier as corporate lawyer.

ISIS Using Chemical Weapons Against Kurds

August 17th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Washington and Turkey are allied against sovereign Syria and regional Kurds on the pretext of fighting ISIS.

They’re imported terrorists from scores of countries serving US imperial interests - using chemical weapons against Syrian civilians. Germany’s Defense Ministry says they’re used against Kurdish forces in northern Iraq - maybe supplied by Turkey or Washington.

A spokesman said “a chemical weapons attack” occurred southwest of Abril - delivered with mortar or artillery shells. ISIS and other imported terrorists used chlorine gas, sarin and other toxic agents in Syria and Iraq numerous times earlier. In late June, Syria’s Rajm al-Tfihi village in northeastern Al-Hasakah governorate was targeted. An undetermined poison gas was used. Victims experienced vomiting, breathing difficulties, eyes, nose and throat burning, severe headaches, muscle pain, as well as impaired concentration and mobility.

Full-Scale War Looms in Donbass

August 17th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

US and British special forces are actively preparing Kiev’s military for escalated combat. UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon said Britain will double the number of Ukrainian troops it’s training by yearend. He called conflict in Donbass “red hot” - heading toward getting hotter.

Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) Contact Group envoy Vladislav Deinego said Kiev violated every Minsk ceasefire term since agreeing to observe them in February. Conflict never stopped. Dozens of shellings occur daily - including against residential and public areas. Obama wants war, not peace - using Kiev proxies to do his dirty work.

Deinego denounced junta authorities “reluctance to bring closer the peaceful settlement of the” conflict. It authorized $250 million in extra spending for greater military buildup in Donbass despite its economy teetering toward collapse - funds desperately needed for constructive purposes earmarked for escalated war.

Journalists Arrested in Ferguson for Doing Their Job

August 17th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Last August after protests followed Michael Brown’s murder, 19 journalists were arrested, according to the Freedom of the Press Foundation. Others were harassed, threatened, tear gassed, pepper sprayed and abused by other brutal police tactics.

Authorities wanted journalists confined to a restricted area away from protests - to prevent their reporting on police brutality. Homeland Security operatives were involved. In a news conference, Obama lied saying:

“Let me be clear that our constitutional rights to speak freely, to assemble, and to report in the press must be vigilantly safeguarded, especially in moments like these.”He prosecuted more whistleblowers of government wrongdoing than all his predecessors combined. He targets journalists for doing their job.

Washington Threatens Ecuadorian Democracy

August 16th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Washington rejects democratic governance everywhere - especially at home. Rule by powerful monied interests is longstanding US policy.

Sovereign independent countries are targeted for regime change by color revolutions or war - including China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela and Ecuador among others.

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa urged supporters to defend the nation’s democracy and political progress achieved under its Citizens’ Revolution - an initiative implemented during his tenure. On Monday, he said “(t)hey want to provoke the political divisions of the past, but they do not have the political legitimacy or strength to do so.”

Hillary Clinton’s Anti-BDS Agenda

August 16th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

The global BDS initiative is the single most effective campaign against longstanding Israeli ruthlessness. Hillary Clinton opposes it - supporting Israel’s worst crimes, against fundamental rights for Palestinians everyone deserves.

In July, she wrote a letter to major Democrat party contributor/ billionaire entertainment mogul Haim Saban expressing alarm about BDS, stressing the need to counter its activities, saying:

“(L)eaders and communities across America can work together” against it. “From Congress and state legislatures to boardrooms and classrooms, we need to engage all people of good faith (to explain) why the BDS campaign (seeks to) punish” Israel.

Fact: It seeks to hold Israel accountable for high crimes too grave to ignore.“It’s not the path to peace,” Clinton continued. Fact: It’s a vital peace initiative - unlike the longstanding sham process dead on arrival every time introduced because Israel wants endless conflict and instability - to advance its greater Middle East agenda at the expense of other regional countries.

Scotland Bans Growing GM Crops

August 16th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Independent evidence shows GM foods and ingredients harm human health. All nations should ban them.

UN General Assembly measures and international humanitarian laws say all nations are responsible for protecting the health, safety and welfare of their people.

Harmful to human health GMOs should be universally banned. Scotland acted responsibly. More on its action below.

Monsanto and other GMO producers own Congress and US administrations - no matter which party holds power. In late July, House members overwhelmingly passed the Orwellian Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act (HR 1599) critics call the Deny Americans the Right to Know (DARK) Act by a nearly two-to-one margin (275 - 150).

It prohibits state and local authorities from requiring GMO labeling - so consumers can make informed choices whether to buy or avoid them. Center for Food Safety director Andrew Kimbrell said in response:

“Passage of this bill is an attempt by Monsanto and its agribusiness cronies to crush the democratic decision-making of tens of millions of Americans. Corporate influence has won and the voice of the people has been ignored.”

Arguably the measure is unconstitutional - along with permitting the sale of GMO foods and ingredients. Its Preamble mandates “promot(ing) the general welfare” - impossible by allowing the sale of foods and ingredients known to harm human health without at least requiring labels telling consumers what they need to know.
