Confidential Document: Soros’s Plan for Ukraine

June 4th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

A hacked document from the Ukrainian Government, in which George Soros, on 12 March 2015 (a month after the Hollande-Merkel Minsk II ceasefire agreement had been signed), advised Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko how to re-arm and resume the war against the Donbass region in Ukraine’s far east. (According to a Russian television report dated 14 April 2011
, Soros had been financing the political careers of the people who have now become the leading politicians in Ukraine, since at least 2008.)

The newly revealed document (hacked by “Cyber Berkut,” a reliable source) opened by acknowledging that Ukraine’s military had been twice defeated in their attempt to restore that region to Ukraine’s control (here was the first defeat; and here was the second), and that, both times when a ceasefire was established, it “recognized the facts on the ground” instead of requiring Donbass forces to move back to the earlier war-front demarcation lines. (And here was the final result.)

Unconstitutional Mass FBI Aerial Surveillance

June 4th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Free and open societies don't spy on their citizens. They don't invent phony threats as justification.

America is a belligerent nation waging endless wars of aggression against invented enemies. Fear-mongering is rife. It's done to rape, ravage and destroy one country after another.

It's a tactic used to scare people to believe they're safer by sacrificing fundamental freedoms. Mass surveillance is a defining rogue state characteristic.

Post-9/11, government-usurped authority turned America into a police state. Big Brother watches everyone. Tuesday Senate passage of the USA Freedom Act (the renamed Patriot Act) changed little.

Government intrusion into the private lives of its citizens remains largely unchanged. The only good news is that USAF slightly rolled back its intrusiveness instead of giving spy agencies more powers.

Obama on Israel: Phony Criticism, Continuing Business As Usual

June 4th, 2015

Stephen Lendman

Obama and Netanyahu's dislike of each other changes nothing about US/Israeli relations. They're rock solid as ever.

Not a single member of Congress dares criticize Israel's worst crimes - not Elizabeth Warren, not Bernie Sanders, no one.

Obama's criticism is muted, phony, duplicitous. He supports repeated Israeli naked aggression on Gaza, its lawless siege, its slow-motion genocide against 1.8 million people, its longstanding ethnic cleansing policy and theft of Palestinian land. He's silent about its impending demolition of Susiya village after Israel's High Court rejected a plea by its residents to save homes they've lived in for decades on their own land. Israel wants it for exclusive Jewish development. Other villages are demolished the same way. Hundreds of Palestinian families are left homeless so Israel can become more Jewish at their expense.

Another Western Big Lie Exposed

June 4th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Some governments lie some of the time, some most of the time and some virtually every time on issues mattering most.

Nothing from Washington or other Western governments should ever be believed. Their Big Lies consistently drown out hard truths - the bigger the issue, the greater the lie.

Last July, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) crashed near Donetsk, Ukraine. It was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All 283 passengers and 15 crew members perished.

At the time, Washington irresponsibly blamed Donbass self-defense forces - despite no evidence suggesting their culpability. US authorities claimed a Russian-supplied Buk surface-to-air missile fired from territory they controlled was responsible. Moscow blamed Ukraine. The Dutch Safety Board launched an investigation.

A preliminary September 9 report said MH17 "broke up in the air probably as the result of structural damage caused by a large number of high-energy objects that penetrated the aircraft from outside" - without further explanation.

Dysfunctional Ukrainian Military

June 4th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

It operates like a slapdash Keystone cops bunch - its ranks filled with unhappy conscripts wanting no part of fighting their own people.

Corruption is rampant. Hundreds of millions of dollars disappear into the pockets of high-ranking military officials. Government corruption is worse - greater than what aroused anger against ousted President Viktor Yanukovych.

Ordinary Ukrainians suffer enormously from impoverishment, unemployment, skyrocketing inflation, unaffordable goods and services, and hugely repressive regime practices. Documents obtained by Donbass military intelligence show "poor morale leads to alcohol abuse and violation of military discipline among (Ukrainian) soldiers, according to statistical data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (along with) the growth of crime committed against the civilian population."

Mass desertions continue - fed up Ukrainian soldiers going AWOL. They're underpaid, poorly fed and clothed, deplorably treated overall, and opposed to fighting their own people.

Mumia Update

June 4th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Mumia Abu-Jamal is perhaps the world's best known political prisoner - framed for a Philadelphia police officer killing he had nothing to do with.

Authorities wanted him silenced. He once said "(t)he state would rather give me an uzi than a microphone." Comments like the following explain why he's a captive in prison hell - no longer on death row but being killed by neglect:

"Do you see law and order," he asked? "There is nothing but disorder, and instead of law there is the illusion of security." "It is an illusion because it is built on a long history of injustices: racism, criminality, and the genocide of millions. Many people say it is insane to resist the system, but actually, it is insane not to."

He calls television "the window of illusion." Corporate media "prime (the public) like pumps to support wars on rumors, innuendo, legends and lies."

Dark Vision- Shia Militias and the Battle for Ramadi - Brian Downing

June 3rd, 2015

ramadi

By Brian M Downing
ISIL’s seizure of the capital of Anbar province has once again called into question the effectiveness of the Iraqi army. With poor weather limiting air support, facing immense vehicle-borne explosives, Iraqi troops fled Ramadi as they did Mosul last summer. A counteroffensive is underway, spearheaded by Shia militias. Their effectiveness augurs well in the ISIL war in Iraq, though their impact on the fragile country worries Washington and other capitals – not always wrongly. (Image)
Effectiveness
Though discussions of the militias, and their relationship with Iran, have only recently come to the fore, the forces date back to the Iran-Iraq War of the eighties when Tehran organized guerrilla bands and political movements to weaken Saddam’s homefront. Washington’s surprise, then, should itself be a surprise.
When the US ousted the Sunnis in 2003, it unwittingly though predictably, boosted the importance of Iran-backed forces. Iran, fearing it was next in Washington’s trumpeted campaign of regime-change in the Middle East, directed the militias in an insurgency against US and coalition forces which raged for several years. For reasons neither Washington nor Tehran has deigned to articulate in public, Shia attacks on US troops and American threats against Iran both subsided simultaneously and quickly.
The Shia militia fighters have never demonstrated exceptional combat skills, not against the US, not against ISIL. Indeed, their battle tactics often border on the foolhardy – firing wildly while exposed to enemy fire, relying on ardor over caution. Their forte has always been tenacity in battle and knowledge of the urban terrain they operate in.

Greece Defies Washington: To Join Russia's Turkish Stream Pipeline Project

June 3rd, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Plans call for it to supply natural gas from Russia through Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia and Hungary - bypassing Ukraine.

Moscow's original South Stream project was scheduled to transit through Bulgaria. US-manipulated destabilization blocked it.

Washington tried the same stunt in Macedonia - attempted color revolution destabilization to replace its government with one it favors - so far with no success. It pressured Greece to stick with a Western-backed Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) instead of Turkish Stream.

Jingoistic Media Scoundrels Bash China

June 3rd, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

US major media function as a mouthpiece for America's imperial agenda - including full support for its endless direct and proxy naked aggression, global destabilization and alliance with some of the world's most ruthless despots.

Russia bashing is relentless. So is vilifying China - notably over its sovereign territorial water rights. The South China Sea doesn't belong to America. You'd never know it based on US policy. More on this below.

The Center for a New American Security is a right-wing/hawkish think tank. Its board of directors includes a rogue's gallery of neocons and war profiteers.

New York Times Editors Love Ruthless Despots

June 3rd, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

They support wealth, power and privilege exclusively - Western ruling class monied interests most of all.

They love fascist regimes. They support US imperial ruthlessness - especially wars of aggression against nations threatening no one. They claim US geopolitical lawlessness is democracy building.

They call naked Israeli aggression against defenseless Palestinians self-defense. They give feature op-ed space to one tinpot despot after another or figures espousing their interests.

Social democrats, anti-war activists, and truth-tellers on issues mattering most are shunned.

The self-styled newspaper of record is a lying machine for lunatics infesting Washington - supporting their most ruthless policies.

Daily propaganda substitutes for what readers most need to know. Managed news misinformation Big Lies block out hard truths.

Try finding a single Times report, op-ed or editorial denouncing US-installed Ukrainian Nazi thugs - waging dirty war without mercy on their own citizens wanting democratic rights.

Or explaining Israeli high crimes against defenseless Palestinians - apartheid worse than South Africa's combined with genocidal wars of aggression.
