America's Deplorable Afghanistan Legacy

October 30th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg absurdly calls Afghanistan an Alliance success story.

As ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) "completes" its "mission at the end of this year."

"This unprecedented international effort has contributed to a better future for Afghan men, women and children," Stoltenberg claims. "And it has enhanced global security."

Disaster more accurately describes things. Conditions are horrific. Perhaps worse than ever. A testimony to US-led NATO high crimes against peace.

Afghanistan's new puppet government agreed to let around 10,000 US troops remain indefinitely.

Immune from Afghan laws. Free to rampage with impunity. On the pretext of serving in an advisory capacity.

Reinventing Vietnam War History

October 29th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Pentagon commanders initiated it. A duplicitous 2015 50th anniversary commemoration. Honoring one of history's greatest crimes.

Turning truth on its head. Orwell explained saying "(h)e who controls the past control the future. He who controls the present controls the past."

A Pentagon web site headlines "The United State of America Vietnam War Commemoration." Pentagon commanders glorify what demands condemnation.

Providing "the American public with (so-called) historically accurate materials and interactive experiences that will help Americans better understand and appreciate the service of our Vietnam War veterans and the history of US involvement in the Vietnam War."

Ukrainian Electoral Postmortems

October 29th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Obama reacted as expected. He "congratulated the people of Ukraine on holding successful parliamentary elections…"

He "commend(ed)" its government. The same illegitimate fascist putschist one he installed. He lied claiming its electoral process was "largely in line with international standards."

Russia bashing Big Lies followed, saying:

"it is clear that (its) authorities occupying Crimea and Russian-backed separatists in parts of eastern Ukraine prevented many Ukrainian citizens from exercising their democratic rights to participate in national elections and cast their votes."

Duplicitous Ukrainian Electoral Postmortems

October 29th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

MSM scoundrels suppress what people most need to know. So do right-wing think tanks. Shameless rubbish substitutes.

The New York Times is America's unofficial propaganda ministry. Featuring managed news misinformation Big Lies.

Treating readers like mushrooms. Well watered. In the dark. Unaware of what most affects them.

It's longstanding Times practice. Vilifying governments Washington opposes. Supporting despotic US allies. Brazenly justifying the unjustifiable. Cheerleading war. Backing the worst of US imperial lawlessness. Supporting US-led NATO's killing machine.

Violence Against Children: UN Gets it Wrong

October 29th, 2014

Robert J. Burrowes

The United Nations has just issued a report, 'Why Children's Protection from Violence should be at the Heart of the Post-2015 Development Agenda' srsg.violenceagainstchildren.org This is a worthy ideal.

Unfortunately, the UN Report does not identify the fundamental cause of violence. Hence, its recommendations, which obviously cannot and do not include addressing this cause, are effectively useless and this report will have as much impact as previous official attempts to reduce violence in our world. Given that human violence now has us on the brink of precipitating our own extinction, it is time we faced the truth and responded meaningfully to it.

Jet Fighter Shoot Down of MH 17 Still on Table - Dutch Prosecutor

October 28th, 2014

Michael Collins
mh17
A senior prosecutor investigating the MH17 shoot down for the Dutch Prosecutors office, Fred Westerbeke, offered up as many questions as he did answers in an interview with SpiegelOnline yesterday. He's open to the possibility that another plane shot down MH17 and welcomed Russian evidence in that regard. He indicated a less than forthcoming attitude on the part of the Germans when he commented on the new German intelligence (the BND) leak that absolved Russia of any involvement shoot down but blamed "pro Russian militias." Like the Germans, according to Westerbeke, it appears that the United States Obama administration has yet to supply its alleged satellite image evidence supporting the claims that pro Russian militia forces brought down MH17. (Image)

SpiegelOnline headlined the interview:

Chief MH17 Investigator on German Claims: 'We Will Need Evidence'
Interview by Rainer Leurs

Reuters headline was more to the point:

MH17 prosecutor open to theory another plane shot down airliner: Der Spiegel, Reuters, Oct 27

Why Do Banks Want Our Deposits? Hint: It’s Not to Make Loans

October 28th, 2014

by Ellen Brown

Many authorities have said it: banks do not lend their deposits. They create the money they lend on their books.

Robert B. Anderson, Treasury Secretary under Eisenhower, said it in 1959:

When a bank makes a loan, it simply adds to the borrower’s deposit account in the bank by the amount of the loan. The money is not taken from anyone else’s deposits; it was not previously paid in to the bank by anyone. It’s new money, created by the bank for the use of the borrower.

The Bank of England said it in the spring of 2014, writing in its quarterly bulletin:

The reality of how money is created today differs from the description found in some economics textbooks: Rather than banks receiving deposits when households save and then lending them out, bank lending creates deposits.

. . . Whenever a bank makes a loan, it simultaneously creates a matching deposit in the borrower’s bank account, thereby creating new money.

Putin Addresses World Order Rules

October 28th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

On October 24, he spoke at the Valdai International Discussion Club's (VIDC) 11th session. Dozens of experts, historians and political analysts from 25 countries attended.

Factors eroding current institutions and norms of international law were discussed. Ones affecting global political and economic conditions.

Putin spoke directly and frankly. Unambiguously. Like he always does. Saying what needs to be heard. Polar opposite his Western counterparts. Try imagining US politicians matching his straight talk comments. Important ones without equivocation. Telling it like it is. Doing so because it matters.

Obama shames the office he holds. He's polar opposite Putin. Serial lying characterizes his rhetoric. It substitutes for truth and full disclosure. So does demagogic doublespeak duplicity.

Farcical Ukrainian Parliamentary Elections

October 28th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

So-called Ukrainian democracy is pure fantasy. Tyranny masquerading as rule by the people.

Sunday's snap unicameral Verkhovna Rada (parliamentary) elections reflected post-February coup business as usual.

Ukraine is a US-installed fascist dictatorship. Its so-called government has no legitimacy whatever.

A previous article discussed whole families contesting for seats. Future deputies were known in advance. They're relatives of currently serving politicians.

Including oligarch president Petro Poroshenko's son, Oleksiy. Running for the same Vinnitsa region's seat his father held previously. Assured of winning before voting began.

MSM Misinformation on Ukraine's Parliamentary Elections

October 28th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Today's MSM is a lying machine. Inconvenient truths are buried. Misinformation rubbish substitutes. Upside down reality reflects things.

Illegitimate Kiev fascist putschists are called democrats. Southeastern Ukrainian freedom fighters are called terrorists.

Daily events should scare everyone. Truth-tellers are vilified. So are peacemakers.

Warmakers win peace prizes. Media scoundrels support what demands condemnation. They deplore government of, by and for everyone equitably.

They support the best democracy money can buy. They glorify war in the name of peace. Nations are destroyed to free them. Monied interests alone benefit. Popular interests don't matter. Nor doing the right thing.
