Ukrainian-Style Democracy

October 21st, 2014

By Stephen Lendman

It's pure fantasy. None whatever exists. US-installed coup d'etat putschists run things.

Neo-Nazis have power. Ordinary Ukrainians have no say. Elections when held are farcical.

Expect scheduled October 26 parliamentary ones to reflect business as usual. Excluding democratic choices.

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said Washington spent around $5 billion sabotaging Ukrainian democracy over the past 20 years.

She lied calling it "democracy promotion…We stand with the people of Ukraine," she hyperventilated.

USAID spent about $1.8 billion assuring ordinary Ukrainians had no say. Calling it "critical development assistance in support of the Ukrainian people."

Sino/Russian Alliance Challenges West

October 21st, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

In his book titled "The Sino-Russian Challenge to World Order," Gilbert Rozman says both countries have much closer ties than commonly thought.

They're deepening. United they challenge US hegemony. Leonid Bershidsky is founding editor of Russia's leading business daily, Vedomosti.

He expects ties between both nations to strengthen and endure. Russia needs to pivot East. China needs access to its enormous resources.

According to Bershidsky, both countries "are made for each other. Despite many cultural differences, their people have more values in common than either share with the West."

"(D)ifferent paths led (them) to the same spot…They suit each other." Putin and Xi call each other "good friends."

Whitewashing Kiev Mass Murder

October 21st, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Washington ousted Ukraine's democratically elected president. It elevated fascist thugs to power.

They're radicalized ultranationalists. They're overt anti-Semites. They're militant hate-mongers. They have no legitimacy whatever.

They're convenient US stooges. They're puppets. They take orders from Washington.

They masquerade as politicians. They represent mob rule. They make mafia bosses look saintly by comparison.

For the first time since WW II, overt fascists have real power. They hold major government posts.

They represent the epicenter of European fascist reemergence. They usurped power by force. They're waging war on their own people.

Dead-End US/Russian Relations

October 20th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

NTV television interviewed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. US/Russian relations reached dead-end long before Ukrainian crisis conditions, he said.

He discussed a range of bilateral problems. "Our relationship is quite complicated," he said. "(B)y the fact that Washington does not attempt to take into account the wishes of partners."

"Suggestions our American partners (bring) to the table (are) one-sided…(W)hile we…try to take into account their approaches and find the balance of such issues."

Diplomacy requires "compromise," he stressed. "We're always ready." Washington is polar opposite.

He called sanctions outdated thinking. They have nothing to do with Ukraine, Lavrov said.

We're All Palestinians

October 20th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

The late Edward Said called "any serious public discussion" about Israeli policies the last taboo. It's no exaggeration, he said.

"Abortion, homosexuality, the death penalty, even the sacrosanct military budget can be discussed with some freedom."

"The extermination of native Americans can be admitted, the morality of Hiroshima attacked, the national flag publicly committed to the flames." But (decades-long Israeli) oppression and maltreatment of the Palestinians is virtually unmentionable, a narrative that has no permission to appear."

Why, he asked? Because of enormous Israeli Lobby influence. The "power of Zionist organizations in American politics…"

Russia: On the Right Side of History

October 20th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's comments reflect Russia's position on geopolitical issues. Especially major ones mattering most.

He explained them following discussions days earlier with John Kerry and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in Paris.

He's a world-class diplomat. He embarrasses his Western counterparts. They're no match for his forthrightness. Straight talk. Candor. Telling it like it is. Explaining what everyone needs to know.

Paul Craig Roberts is right calling Russia the world's moral leader. At a time America descends into tyranny. Waging war on humanity. At home and abroad.

Strange Days

October 20th, 2014

By Timothy V. Gatto

ISIS

"Nobody told me there would be days like this, nobody told me there would be days like this, Nobody told me there would be days like this, strange days indeed! Most peculiar Momma...whoa!" (John Lennon)

The United States of America is in crisis. This is not opinion, this is a cold hard fact. Some may say that this nation is an "Exceptional" nation and it is the "Indispensable Nation" in regard to the rest of the world. I myself take "exception" to that. I would like to remind President Obama that claiming these things does nothing but irritate the rest of the planet.

No nation is exceptional. No nation is indispensable. All nations are exceptional in their own ways and all nations are indispensable as the human race now lives in a world that has a global economy that is interconnected more now than at any other time in history. The fact is, we are all connected and not just through the mainstream media. We talk to people from other nations through Skype, Facebook, Twitter and other social media. We read each others articles on the internet and those fortunate enough to take advantage of the information revolution happening throughout the World are also smart enough to see through Washington's propaganda.

Israel's Bloodstained Hands

October 19th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

British MP George Galloway is right calling Israel "an illegal, savage and barbarous state."

It "has more (UN) censures against it than the rest of the countries in the world put together…"

It "refuses to abide by resolutions and continues to illegally grab land and persecute their rightful owners…"

It "uses its military to blockade and murder the people of Gaza."

He retracts not one word he said. He continues "forcefully condemning Israel."

"It remains the case that there is a worldwide boycott of Israel, its goods, its services, its academics," he said.

"I hope the citizens of Bradford will join me in refusing to treat with the advocates of this hateful and oppressive regime and truly make Bradford an Israel-free zone."

Reinvented Scoundrel Media History

October 19th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

New York Times editors do it numerous ways. At times in their "Room for Debate" series. Featuring mostly one-sided views.

Crowding out truth and full disclosure. Overwhelming it with Big Lies. On October 17, they headlined "Should Nations Recognize a Palestinian State?

Six views were presented. More on them below. An earlier article said the following:

Debating is an ancient tradition. Socrates and Plato debated political, social, and other issues. The Socratic method involves opposing sides asking and answering questions.

Ideas are freely aired. Beliefs are challenged. Truths are sought. Critical thinking is stimulated.

Opinions are formed. Conclusions are reached through free and open dialogue and discussion.

Attorney Stanley L. Cohen: Guilty of Doing His Job Honorably

October 19th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

He's a criminal defense attorney/political activist par excellence. Wrongfully indicted on bogus charges.

Guilty of defending wrong clients. Ones prosecutors wanted convicted. More on this below.

America's criminal justice system is corrupted. Broken. Systematically unfair. Infested with political hacks.

Solely supporting wealth, power and privilege. Prosecutors take full advantage.

Innocence is no defense. Guilt by accusation is official policy. The American Bar Association's (ABA) Model Code of Judicial Conduct doesn't matter. Its preamble calls for:

"An independent, fair and impartial judiciary." It's "indispensable to our system of justice." It's composed of "men and women of integrity.
