Forging a Socialist-Islamist Alliance

February 7th, 2014

By William T. Hathaway

Review of Eric Walberg, From Postmodernism to Postsecularism: Re-emerging Islamic Civilization, Clarity Press, 2013

Most western Middle East experts see Islam as a problem for the West -- a source of terrorism, religious fanaticism, unwanted immigrants -- and they see their job as helping to change the Middle East so it's no longer a problem for us. Eric Walberg, however, recognizes that this is another instance of the Big Lie.

The actual problem is the multifaceted aggression the West has been inflicting on the Middle East for decades and is determined to continue, no matter what the cost to them and us will be. His books and articles present the empirical evidence for this with scholarly precision and compassionate concern for the human damage done by our imperialism.

Abbas Accepts Occupation Harshness

February 7th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

He's a longtime Israeli collaborator. He's a tailor-made stooge. He's Palestine's Quisling. He's straight from central casting.

Israel rigged his 2005 election. He served illegitimately from day one.

In January 2009, his term expired. He refuses to call new elections. He was involved in Oslo peace talks. He took full credit for negotiating Palestine's surrender.

He never left Tunis. Arafat had final say. Oslo was Palestine's Versailles. It was unilateral surrender.

Palestinians got nothing in return renouncing armed struggle, recognizing Israel's right to exist, and agreeing to leave major unresolved issues for later final status talks. They're still waiting.

Issues awaiting resolution include ending occupation, Palestinian self-determination, the right of return, settlements, borders, water and other resource rights, as well as East Jerusalem as Palestine's exclusive capital.

When Mainstream Media’s Narrative Collapses: Building 7

February 6th, 2014

via chycho

It’s been years since I met anyone that still believes in the official government story of the lone gunman. For obvious reasons of course, since you would have to be completely obtuse to hold onto such simplistic perceptions of the world - not to mention to having no understanding of physics at all.

For those that continue to encounter such people, the only advice I have is to sit down with your loved ones, or those that you would like to educate, and have them read or watch a little Bill Hicks.

ONLY LOVE TRULY HEALS

February 6th, 2014

Allen L Roland

Only love truly heals because only love lies deepest within us. The basic underlying and uniting force of the universe is a psychic energy field of love and soul consciousness (Unified Field ) which lies not only beyond time and space but also beneath our deepest fears ~ and whose principle property is the urge to unite.

The only right love is that between couples whose passion leads them both, one through the other, to a higher possession of their being: Teilhard de Chardin

For almost 40 years I have been demonstrating that there is no true healing without love and that the very act of surrendering to love is the ultimate key to inner transformation.

Obamacare Harms America's Workforce

February 6th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Obamacare scams consumers. It's a ripoff. It's a corporate designed scheme. It's smoke and mirrors deception. It's rife with disturbing inequities. It makes a dysfunctional system worse.

It enriches insurers, drug companies and large hospital chains. It's fast food healthcare. It rations it.

It leaves millions uninsured. Millions more are way underinsured. It's outrageously expensive. It's double the cost of other developed countries. It makes healthcare more than ever unaffordable.

Millions of households have to pay 40% or more out-of-pocket. It's for co-pays and deductibles. It's on top of costly premiums. It gets worse.

New York Times editors are some of Obamacare's biggest boosters. They noticed a glaring problem. On February 4, The Times headlined "Health Care Law Projected to Cut the Labor Force."

Moving beyond the corporate vision of sustainability

February 6th, 2014

Rajesh Makwana

In light of ongoing global negotiations on pressing environmental issues, it’s time for efforts to curtail the excessive influence of multinational corporations over public policy to be strengthened and scaled up at all levels – especially at the United Nations.

The corporate capture of policymaking has dire implications for how we achieve sustainable development in the 21st century, and it must be strongly opposed in the coming years as deliberations on climate change and sustainable development reach important conclusions. Private sector influence over politics at the national level is already widely recognised, but the extent to which powerful industries are able to influence global negotiations on some of the world’s most pressing problems is far less reported by the media or discussed in the public sphere.

Obama Shifts Closer to War on Syria

February 6th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

In March 2011, Obama launched proxy war on Syria. Regime change remains policy.

Peace talks are subterfuge. They're fake. Geneva II reflects more sideshow than substance.

Washington abhors peaceful conflict resolution. Human suffering doesn't matter. Conflict continues unabated. January perhaps was the deadliest month so far. An estimated 6,000 or more died.

So-called "humanitarian war" was planned years ago. Full-scale implementation could come any time.

On the sidelines of the just concluded Munich Security Conference, John Kerry met privately with 15 congressional members.

He acknowledged diplomatic failure. He stopped short of saying Washington planned it that way.

Free Expression on Trial in Israel

February 6th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Israel mocks democratic values. It has no borders. It's to steal Palestinian land.

It has no constitution. Basic laws substitute. They fall woefully short. Ones in place are ignored.

Universally recognized rights are compromised. They include life, liberty and security. They assure privacy. They prohibit cruel and unusual punishments.

They assure everyone equal protection under the law. No distinction can be made based on race, nationality, ethnicity, gender or religious preference.

They guarantee free expression, free assembly, free movement, and free thought. They assure adequate food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education and other vital services.

They guarantee government of, by and for everyone equitably and fairly.

Israel is no democracy. It never was. For sure it's not now. It wants critics silenced. Legislation, policies and judicial rulings violate free speech, a free press, freedom of assembly and freedom of religion.

Militarism in Germany

February 5th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

A previous article discussed WW I's 100th anniversary. On July 29, 1914, it began. It was called the war to end all wars.

WW II followed. German involvement was central in both wars. In 1945, Hitler's Wehrmacht was disbanded.

It ravaged and destroyed much of Europe. It killed millions of people. Most Germans wanted never again. They renounced militarism.

A new Bundeswehr was established. It was constitutionally restricted to defense. Conscripts were called "citizens in uniform."

WMD Deception: Pretext for War on Syria?

February 5th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Here we go again. A new London Sunday Times report claims Assad is hoarding WMDs. More on it below.

We've seen it all before. It surfaced earlier against Syria. Obama repeatedly warned Assad against using chemical weapons.

He never did. He never would. Doing so would be suicide. His Foreign Ministry spokesman Johad Makdissi repeated earlier what various Syrian officials stressed, saying:

"No chemical or biological weapons will ever be used, and I repeat, will never be used...no matter what" happens inside Syria.
