Controlled Opposition – From Goldstein to Soros and Beyond

April 14th, 2013

By Gilad Atzmon

Jewish power is the unique capacity to stop us from discussing or even contemplating Jewish power. It is the capacity to determine the boundaries of the political discourse and criticism in particular.

In his new book, “The Invention Of The Land of Israel”, Israeli academic Shlomo Sand, manages to present conclusive evidence of the far fetched nature of the Zionist historical narrative - that the Jewish Exile is a myth as is the Jewish people and even the Land of Israel.

Yet, Sand and many others fail to address the most important question: If Zionism is based on myth, how do the Zionists manage to get a way with their lies, and for so long?

If the Jewish ‘homecoming’ and the demand for a Jewish national homeland cannot be historically substantiated, why has it been supported by both Jews and the West for so long? How does the Jewish state manage for so long to celebrate its racist expansionist ideology and at the expense of the Palestinian and Arab peoples?

Globalized Torture

April 13th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

America's the world's leading human rights abuser. State terror is official policy. So is waging war on humanity.

Guantanamo operates lawlessly. It's America's public face. It's the tip of the iceberg. More on that below.

Gitmo detainees gave few ways to resist. Refusing food challenges injustice. Around 130 haven't eaten in over two months. They're hunger striking for justice.

Russia Today reports regularly on what's happening. On April 12, it headlined "Day of Action to Close Guantanamo: US Cities protest Obama's inaction."

Obama's Neoliberal Budget

April 12th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Main Street America's in protracted Depression. Conditions go from bad to worse. More than ever, vital stimulus is needed. Lots of it.

Obama's solution is force-fed austerity. In term one, he prioritized it. His FY 2014 budget offers more of the same.

He's waging financial war on ordinary people. He's targeting middle America, those most disadvantaged, seniors, and others approaching retirement.

Attacking Venezuela's Democratic Process

April 12th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Jimmy Carter calls Venezuelan elections the world's best. He does so for good reason. They shame America's sham process. Duopoly power controls things. People have no say.

Venezuelans get the real thing. It's constitutionally mandated. It's democracy the way it should be. It's one of many Bolivarian successes. They reflect Chavez's extraordinary legacy. Don't expect media scoundrels to explain.

He's gone. Chavismo lives. On April 14, Venezuelans again vote. Acting President Nicolas Maduro carries Chavez's torch.

He's PSUV's (United Socialist Party of Venezuela) candidate. He'll face opposition Rountable of Democratic Unity (MUD) leader Henrique Capriles Radonski.

When Yarmouk Camp Fled to Shatila

Yarmouk Palestinian Camp, Damascus

History is nothing if not interesting. And that it most definitely is.

(photo: fplamb 4/2/13 outside UNWRA HQ Beirut) Message from Syrian
Palestinians refugees to UNWRA in Lebanon) “From Palestinians in Syria: We
request: That UNWRA Obtain the Housing and Health, Education and Nutrition
Services." The large banner is signed: “The Palestinians Displaced from Syria.”

Today, Palestinian refugees are being severely punished in Lebanon and deprived of their most elementary civil right to work or to even own a home. This massive volition of international humanitarian law is partially being inflicted out of revenge for some Palestinian refugees' alleged short-term involvement in Lebanon’s civil war back in 1975--nearly four decades ago.

Today however, Palestinian refugees are being severely punished in Syria out of revenge by jihadst factions and others, for not becoming involved in the current Syrian civil war as they insist on staying out of this incredibly tragic mess.

Some Palestinian teenagers here in Damascus call it “Yarmouk-Shatila,” as in: “Our neighbors or friends had to escape from Syria and are now in Yarmouk-Shatila camp” in Lebanon. Shatila was probably the most grotty, tightly packed sardine-canned camp of the 12 in Lebanon and of the 59 in the region, even before 600 more families arrived recently, with more arriving daily.

Damascus University Students Resist US Civilian Targeting Sanctions

April 11th, 2013

FRANKLIN LAMB
Damascus

Students everywhere are special people and this observer has discovered that Syrian students are among the very best.

Meeting and interviewing students again this past week, before and following a frank and enlightening discussion with Dr. Mohammad Amer Al-Mardini, the indefatigable President of Damascus University, about the situation of the students and current instruction at the University, one cannot ,even as a foreigner, fail to feel pride in Syrian students.

Who’ll mourn Maggie?

April 11th, 2013

Stuart Littlewood

These last two days the airwaves have been awash with eye-dabbing tributes to former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. She has been elevated almost to sainthood by commentators, political hacks and former colleagues. Such near-hysterical adoration, it seems to me, is a measure of the wretched scarcity of leadership talent in Britain over the last 50 years.

Obamacare Already Starts Collapsing Into Medical-Industry Feeding Frenzy

Part of the Obama Administration’s promise to the American people regarding Obamacare was that the enormous waste in America’s medical expenses would be reduced. The reversal of that promise has already begun.

Mistreating Palestinian Children

April 11th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Societies perhaps are best judged by how they treat prisoners, their most disadvantaged and children.

On March 20, Israeli soldiers mass arrested about 30 children. Obama arrived the same day. Every child passing Tareq Bin Zeyad street was seized. They were heading for school in Hebron.

They were taken to Kiryat Arba police station. They were interrogated with no adult present. Israel's Youth Law requires it. Shin Bet pays it no heed. Children are isolated from parents. They're terrorized. It's standard Israeli practice.
