Defending the Indefensible

April 19th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Robert Shiller is Yale University Professor of Economics and Professor of Finance and Fellow at the International Center of Finance, Yale School of Management.

He's best known perhaps for his 2000 book titled, "Irrational Exuberance." At the height of the tech bubble, he got it right predicting it would burst. His analysis included structural, cultural, and psychological factors.

His 2005 second edition was right again. He explained the housing bubble and likely aftermath. It peaked in 2005, began declining in 2006, and hasn't yet hit bottom. Maybe a third edition will cover the next inevitable decline.

AfPak: Mutiny on the Bounty

April 19th, 2012

Eric Walberg

The Taliban began their spring campaign as a British lord put a price on Bush's scalp.

Kabul was cast into chaos Sunday as the Taliban began their spring offensive with attacks on US, British, German and Russian embassies, NATO headquarters, Camp Eggers, a hotel, President Karzai’s palace compound and parliament. “These are coordinated attacks that went just as we planned,” Taliban spokesman Qari Talha told The Daily Beast. “This is only the start of what’s in store this year and next for the Americans and Karzai.”

Targets across the country included Vice-President Mohammad Karim Khalili, airfields and police stations in three eastern provinces. About 20 insurgents were killed in the attacks, which injured at least 15 police officers and nine civilians.

An epitome of Israeli barbarianism

April 19th, 2012

By Khalid Amayreh

As a student of the collective Israeli mindset and long-time observer of Israeli behavioral patterns, I wasn't surprised a bit by Lieutenant Colonel Shalom Eisner's behaviors with Danish peace activist Andreas Las.

The Israeli propaganda machine would want us to believe that the incident was an aberration, a kind of anomaly that in no way represents the true ethos of the Israeli army. But this is untrue.

In fact, from my observation of Israeli behavior for decades I can solemnly testify that Eisner's behavior represents the norm rather than the exception.

Failure in Cartagena

April 18th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

On April 14 and 15, Cartagena, Columbia hosted the Sixth Summit of the Americas (SOA). Obama came, participated, and left empty-handed.

How different things were in three 1990s summits. James Petras calls the decade "the golden age of pillage." That was then. This is now.

America's imperial arrogance makes more enemies than friends. It also weakens influence. Ravaging the world one country at a time doesn't help. Neither does bullying nations to go along or else.

Summit theme this year was "Connecting the Americas: Partners for Prosperity." Latin American nations have different visions than Washington. They no longer accept being "America's backyard."

Saudi Arabia: Dancing to Israel's tune

April 18th, 2012

Kourosh Ziabari

The fact that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has joined the vicious triangle of the United States, Israel and Britain to destabilize the Islamic Republic of Iran and put pressure on Tehran over its nuclear program is not a secret anymore. The Saudi officials have openly stated their opposition to Iran's access to peaceful nuclear energy and even have boastfully promised to make up for the amount of crude oil which the EU member states will be losing after imposing a multilateral oil embargo against Iran which is seen as an effort to force Iran into giving up its nuclear rights.

The Saudis are officially considered to be among the Muslim states which don't recognize the Israeli regime; however, they haven't hesitated to publicize their ties with the Israeli officials during the recent years, especially when it comes to their cooperation with Tel Aviv against Iran.

HUGE Changes Coming To Planet Earth

April 17th, 2012

By Cosmic Convergence Research Group

2012 is HERE!

Cosmic Convergence Accelerates Epochal Change On Planet Earth

What happens when an unparalleled Solar Maximium occurs while Pluto is cruising through Capricorn, seismic activity and vulcanism (both undersea and on land) have already seen a dramatic uptick, technospheric breakdown has greatly accelerated, entire species have vacated the planet as whole ecosystems are irreparably destroyed, global climate change appears as global warming, cooling, drought or deluge, and the worldwide financial system is on the verge of collapse, as in a total and complete, irreversible monetary meltdown? Believe it or not, these actual occurrences and various eventualities are the very least of our problems. Here’s why: There are certain ‘progressive’ developments and converging circumstances which will dictate the course of our future as a planetary civilization and human race – the fifth root race[1] to have inhabited planet Earth since it has revolved around the sun. That which will serve to “accelerate epochal change” like no other major precipitating cause can be summed up as follows:

'America' An Experiment In Terror

April 17th, 2012

Larry Pinkney

“To educate a man is to unfit him to be a slave.” -Frederick Douglass

“The [Senate] Committe has not been able to determine with any greater precision the extent to which COINTELPRO may be continuing.”

-Book III, Final Report of the Select Committee, 94th Congress, 2d Session, United States Senate

Terror is carried out in many forms by this nation’s corporate government against everyday people both internally and externally, and its most powerful facilitator is apathy.

As the national economy crumbles for everyday Black, White, Brown, Red, and Yellow people, there is in the White House a corporate / military master-president masquerading as the slave, a Congress insatiably feeding from a bottomless corporate trough, and a judiciary that makes an utter mockery of justice, constitutional rights, and human rights. Meanwhile, bloody overt and covert U.S. wars rage on in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, and elsewhere abroad. As contempt grows for the hypocritical and diabolical de facto policies of this nation’s government, it is everyday people at home and abroad whose lives are being torn assunder and who are quite literally dying, as the banksters and other assorted corporate gangsters grow ever richer and even more vicious.

Israel's Lawless Settlement Project

April 17th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Since June 1967, Israel maintained total domination over Occupied Palestine.

Lawlessly, it includes controlling essential resources, air space, Gaza's coastal waters, borders, who's allowed to cross them, political, economic, and financial activities, internal movement, public assembly and speech, Palestine's population registry, private property by seizures or demolition, and, of course, land.

Priority one is stealing it. Palestinians are forcibly dispossessed and displaced to expand settlements and for other development. Israel wants all valued parts as well as Jerusalem as its exclusive capital.

Overall, settlements, closed military zones, Jewish commercial areas, and others earmarked for development account for over 40% of West Bank land.

"Mama, will Baba Roumieh visit us in Shatila camp?"

April 16th, 2012

by FRANKLIN LAMB
Beirut

It's official according to the Vatican. Pope Benedict XVI will visit Lebanon from the 14th to the 16th September, in just five months' time.

By coincidence or design, the Pontiff's visit will coincide with the International commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Sabra-Shatila Massacre during which Christian militia, facilitated by nearby Israeli troops who had sealed the Palestinian refugee camp, slaughtered more than 3000 unarmed civilians on site€”approximately 25 per cent of whom were fellow Lebanese.

If the Pontiff accepts the invitation of Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai and stays during his visit in Bkerki, the seat of the Patriarchy, he may or may not be informed that he will sleep close to one of the burial pits where bodies from the 1982 massacre were trucked from Shatila camp.

Nuclear Chess

April 16th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

On April 14, two days of nuclear chess began in Istanbul. At issue is Iran's civilian program. So-called P5+1 countries - America, Russia, China, Britain, and France - plus Germany - know it's peaceful. They pretend otherwise.

Expect toing and froing without resolution. Washington plans it that way. So do Britain, France and Germany. They're part of the dirty game claiming Iran has nuclear weapons ambitions.
