Brain Dead Obama

Everyone who voted for Obama should feel betrayed, ashamed and disgusted. Anyone who still trusts, admires and respects Obama is a fool. Here is my political fantasy: I wake up one day soon and hear the news that President Obama has a fatal brain tumor and will soon resign. Praise the Lord!
If you have any doubt whatsoever about how bad a president Obama is, then take the time to read this incredibly fine essay by Drew Westen “What Happened to Obama?”
Obama has no real, meaningful principles, nor passion and courage to say and do what the US desperately needs. He repeatedly fails to publicly identify the enemies of the state and rally public support for fighting evil and corruption in the political system. For a supposedly smart guy he appears to ordinary people as brain dead. His presidency makes a compelling case why we need a constitutional amendment creating the option for American voters to recall a president.
Far too many people will wrongly believe that voting to reelect Obama is better than voting for any Republican. They are dead wrong. Better to not vote at all for any presidential candidate or vote for a third party candidate. Lesser evil voting has been one of the primary causes of the decline of American democracy, allowing the total corruption of the political system by money representing the interests of the rich and powerful.
New York Times Support for Imperial Wars

The Times never met a US imperial war it didn't endorse or designated enemy it didn't vilify. Nor are concerns ever raised about constitutional and international law issues, crimes of war and against humanity, or mass slaughter and destruction.
Only supporting the home team and winning matters, not right or wrong, or cost in terms of dollars and human lives. It's as true about Libya as US wars against Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, others ongoing directly or through proxies, as well as earlier ones, at least in their earlier stages.
The Times strayed far from June 13, 1971 when it was the first broadsheet to begin publishing the top secret Pentagon Papers under Neil Sheehan's byline. At the time, its publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger said, "What was revealed, had to be revealed....people had the right to know."
In fact, in a 1996 article, The Times (belatedly) said:
Repression in Israel and Bahrain

On August 8, London Guardian writer Ian Black headlined, "Bahrain protests: 'The repression is getting worse,' " saying:
Bahraini police grabbed Hassan Ali Salman. One "forc(ed) his T-shirt roughly up over his head as three or four others laid in with wooden batons, dragging and pushing him to a line of waiting Land Cruisers and more helmeted cops."
He's one of many victims in an "ugly....cat-and-mouse routine of protest and repression in this Gulf island state." Secretly filmed, "it exposes what Bahrain's western-backed government prefers foreigners not to see."
A Trans-Atlantic Call For Emergency Solution to the Present Global Breakdown Crisis

The entire global financial system has collapsed, and while the center of the crash is in the trans-Atlantic region, there is no region of the world that is immune from the disintegration that is already underway. Last week, when European inter-bank lending froze, it was the U.S. Federal Reserve that opened an emergency discount window. President Obama has pledged to German Chancellor Angela Merkel that the United States will be the lender of last resort for the entire European Monetary Union.

Sustaining Protest Energy in Israel

Since mid-July, Israelis have protested in unprecedented numbers for long denied social justice. Succeeding depends on sustaining that energy disruptively for change. Though never easy, it's the only way.
Frances Fox Piven discussed it in her book titled, "Challenging Authority" about social movements becoming pivotal forces for change when ordinary people used their considerable clout, saying:
They have "power....when they rise up in anger and hope, defy the rules....disrupt state institutions....propel new issues to the center of political debate (and force) political leaders (to) stem voter defections by proferring reforms."
When sustained, this determination produces change. Elections can't do it, not in America, most European countries or Israel because entrenched power shuts out independent interests.

Agrochemicals, energy plants and GMO crops killing Bathinda residents

Home to two coal power plants, a fertilizer plant, and a large oil refinery, the city of Bathinda in Punjab, India is making people sick. Forty percent of the population (nearly 90,000 people) suffers from respiratory ailments. The area also suffers from a host of other diseases including cancer, at a rate triple that of other areas, which has been linked to agrochemicals.
Doctors are urging people to use medicinal inhalers, which is culturally stigmatized. Rather than demanding strict environmental controls, doctors have asked authorities to fund an education campaign to dispel the stigma associated with inhaler use.
New York Times Opposition to Palestinian Self-Determination

In September, when the General Assembly meets (beginning 9/13), Palestinians will seek de jure UN membership. Unless current policy changes, it will ask for official recognition as an independent sovereign state. Currently, it has Observer State Status only, denying its right to vote.
Israel opposes recognition. So does Obama, both Houses of Congress, and The New York Times.
Earlier articles explained the following:
(1) Last March, Israel told UN Security Council members and other prominent EU countries it will act unilaterally if the General Assembly grants Palestine de jure membership in September inside 1967 borders, 22% of historic Palestine.
(2) If granted, Israel will likely deny recognition, continuing its illegal occupation, this time against a sovereign country. Moreover, expect it to accelerate West Bank/East Jerusalem land seizures, isolating Palestinians on smaller portions of worthless scrub land.
Growing Israeli Tyranny

For years, America and Israel followed similar paths toward full-blown tyranny, threatening all their citizens. Believing either is democratic and egalitarian is ludicrous and nonsensical, especially now under right-wing neoliberal governments, cracking down hard against challenges to their authority.
In Israel, moreover, Arabs have no rights. In fact, they're treated more like fifth-column threats than citizens with equal rights as Jews. They never had them or do now.
