Message to Obama on the Gulf Coast Guard

June 19th, 2010

By Janice Mathews

Thank God the Governor of Louisiana refused to be intimidated by the Coast Guard.

Sixteen barges were stationary for 24 hours. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that was working until the Coast Guard shut the operation down because they couldn’t confirm there were fire extinguishers and life vests on board.

A Coast Guard representative told ABC News today that it shares the same goal as the governor.

But the coast guard, the media, BP and Obama don’t seem to be aware of the caliber of disaster affecting the Gulf Coast and the nation since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded on April 20.

The BP Oil spill has the makings of a perfect storm because one can visibly see the cracks in the ocean floor when reviewing tapes of the live BP feeds. In the tape dated 6/13/2010 you can see oil spewing up from visible fissions.

The pressure at the base of the wellhead deep under the ocean floor is approx. 100,000 PSI. There is no known device to cap a well with such a high PSI pressure. To further complicate things geologists using a GPS and Depth finder system have discovered a large gas bubble 15-20 miles across and tens of feet high under the ocean floor.

A bubble of this magnitude if able to escape from under the ocean floor through a crack would cause a gas explosion that can only be described as Mt. St. Helen’s under water.

The explosion would take place 50 miles off the Louisiana Coast, instantly releasing a toxic cloud that the winds would carry to the shorelines. This explosion would also create what is called a Cavitations’, sinking any ships, oil structures virtually anything floating atop the water instantly within at least a 10 mile radius, and thus could create a Tsunami which would travel towards the coast of Florida at a speed of 400-600 miles per hour. This has the potential of putting the state of Florida under water. Gulf Coast Disaster, Is it The Perfect Storm?

Big oil in Nigeria - executions, pollution and suffering (Image)

Michael Collins

The big oil catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico is not the first to threaten a people's way of life.

Just ask the Ogoni people from Nigeria's oil rich central Niger Delta. Their experience over decades offers a model of things to come without serious changes in consumption and regulation.

Twenty-Two Reasons Why American Working People Hate the State

June 17th, 2010

By James Petras

Introduction

Why does the rightwing attack on “Big Government” increasingly resonates with working people? Liberals claim wage and salaried workers are acting against their “self-interest”, citing government welfare programs like social security and unemployment payments. Progressives argue that workers hostile to the state are ‘racists”, “fundamentalists” and/or irrational, blinded by misplaced fears of threats to individual freedoms.

I will argue there are many sound, rational, material reasons for working people to be in revolt against the state

Afghanistan: The Longest Lost War

June 17th, 2010

By James Petras

Introduction:

Despite almost a decade of warfare, including an invasion and occupation, the US military and its allies and client state armed forces are losing the war in Afghanistan. Outside of the central districts of a few cities and the military fortresses, the Afghan national resistance forces, in all of their complex local, regional and national alliances, are in control, of territory, people and administration.

The prolonged unending war has become a major drain on the morale of the US armed forces and undermined civilian support in the US, limiting the capacity of the White House to launch new imperial wars. The annual multi-billion dollar military expenditures, are exacerbating the out-of-control budget deficit and forcing harsh unpopular cuts on social programs, at all levels of government. There is no end in sight, as the Obama regime keeps increasing the number of troops by the tens of thousands and military expenditures by the dozens of billions but the resistance advances, both military and politically.

Gaza Flotilla Massacre: Goldstone Commission II Essential

June 17th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

The Flotilla attack was a well-planned act of premeditated murder in international waters, the Netanyahu government (on June 14) announcing an inquiry commission this writer discussed in a same-day article, accessed through the following link:

http://sjlendman.blogspot.com/2010/06/end-gaza-siege.html.

It explained the planned whitewash of a grievous crime against humanity, one Israel mustn't be allowed to get away with despite it being minor by comparison with far greater ones, Cast Lead most prominent recently.

Barack Obama, a 21st Century Legionnaire

Crusextraction

During the various stages of the energy extraction process, the globe of the earth suffers limitless pain at the area where the drilling occurs. It is gradually being depressurized and cooled internally, causing cycles of constriction, joint-rending cramps, intermittent partial asphyxiation and searing pain as they use large drills to puncture pericardium and into the heart, sometimes as deep as 10,000 feet.

As the serum gets sucked from the sediment pores, the surrounding rocks shift positions to fill the newly vacated spaces, causing unbearable agony as the earth automatically contracts in size and goes badly out of shape resulting in a deep crushing pain.

"I Thirst." "My strength is dried up like a potsherd; my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death."(Psalm 22:15)

Then another agony begins when millions of barrels of vital bodily fluids are produced. This causes deep, crushing pain as the sac surrounding the bowels of the earth slowly fills with hydrocarbon soil and begins to compress the tectonic plates causing (shock) mini-seismic earthquakes.

“I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint, my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.” Psalm 22:14

When the loss of fluids reaches a critical level, the earth is struggling to pump heavy, thick, sluggish serum that is not only pressurized, but is also hot. As it is extracted, the tortured lungs of the earth are suffocating and are making a frantic effort to inhale small gulps of air.

“I had a dream.” Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States

June 15th, 2010

By Robert Singer

The American dream based on unrelenting consumption fueled by technological progress and economic growth must eventually die.

The U.S. economy has been untenable in this regard since at least 1980 and may soon be forced to shut down.

Even the people who have jobs are scared, and scared people don't shop. And the ones who don't have a job and are scared for sure don't shop. A quarter-century of economic growth has been wiped out worldwide in just a matter of months.

Vice President-elect Joe Biden is worried, and Obama himself refers to the current crisis as “the greatest economic challenge of our lifetime.” [1]

The world is engulfed in a global economic crisis of staggering ferocity.

Making matters worse, a government "by and for" the American people may not be prepared for the social dislocation, economic despair and breakdown in law and order that is likely to ensue.

When will direct action blossom?

June 15th, 2010

Mickey Z.

Anais Nin sez: "There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

I think of her words when I consider this question: How much more are we willing to tolerate before we take direct action? For those of you scoring at home, here is just a small taste of what we’re already enduring without any serious fuss:

Targeting Whistleblowers: Truth Telling Endangered

June 15th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

On April 16, journalist John Cole wrote:

"The message is clear - you torture people and then destroy the evidence, and you get off without so much as a sternly worded letter. If you are a whistle blower outlining criminal behavior by the government, you get prosecuted."

In fact, it's worse. Under Bush, torture was official policy. It remains so under Obama who absolved CIA torturers, despite unequivocal evidence of their guilt. But leaking it risks criminal prosecution for revealing state secrets and endangering national security.

What went wrong with Obama

June 14th, 2010

By Numerian posted by Michael Collins

One of the fictions propagated in American history courses – of the order of Washington throwing a dollar coin across the Potomac – is the theory that America always comes up with brilliant leaders at a time of crisis. Witness Washington himself, and Lincoln, Wilson, or Franklin Roosevelt (Republicans will throw in Reagan for balance). This was supposed to have something to do with the genius of the Constitution and the American political system’s ability to surface political talent.

A time of crisis is certainly upon the US, and the entire globe for that matter. The financial system is ratcheting itself down step by step into a total, catastrophic collapse, bringing default and ruin to over-leveraged borrowers everywhere. The global economy’s dependence on petroleum is more and more seen as a point of extreme fragility which could, like the corrupt financial order, bring economic growth to a complete halt. The nations of the world cannot agree what to do about global warming, and this failure alone seems to show we are incapable of setting aside personal gain for the common good, even when the survival of so many species (including our own) is at stake.
