Saving Jackpot Capitalism: The Real Reason Why the Banks Are Being Bailed Out

March 17th, 2009

Martha Rose Crow, M.S.

Regular return on investments is for the little people. The greedy elite and elite investor groups must have more. They must save their private, un- or under regulated way of making secret kings’ ransoms.

Shadow Financial Entities

They stay out of the light as much as they can because they don’t want the world to know how Big and Powerful they really are and they don’t want the public to know how ruthless they are to make high returns on investments for their elite masters.

Mr. Obama: Don’t let Israel destroy America

March 16th, 2009

Khalid Amayreh

Two inseparable characters have identified Israeli behavior ever since the very inception of its existence in occupied Palestine: Criminality and mendacity.

As to the first, we all know that Israel itself is and has always been a crime against humanity. Israel’s very creation couldn’t have been effected had it not been for the numerous atrocities and terror committed by the legions of Zionism for the express purpose of driving the majority of the Palestinian population into exile.

Indeed, as the conscientious Israeli historian Illan Pappe asserts in his book, the Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, the 1948-war was started by the Zionists in order to terrorize the Palestinians into leaving their homeland.

Challenging the right on national health care

March 15th, 2009

Mary Shaw

Whenever I advocate for universal single-payer health care for all Americans, the right-wingers flood my inbox with all the predictable myths.

First, they tell me that health care is not a right. They say it's each citizen's responsibility to provide it for his or her family. I guess this myth gives them another excuse to look down on the poor who cannot afford the luxury of medical insurance. It makes them feel superior.

In response to that, I point out that health care is indeed a basic human right, enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), to which the United States is a signatory.

Message to the Future

March 15th, 2009

Peter Chamberlin

This is written for you, the survivors. Two or three years ago, I decided to write this message to you. My only intentions were to find the best solutions to the nightmare visions and ease the suffering billions of souls who were scheduled to pay the final price of a world system based on greed. There is no sense in having a nightmare vision of the future that you know is real if it cannot be shared with others today, in real time. Warning of an impending massive fatal mental illness as a timely prescription for avoidance is an act of futility, in a population inured of life and deaf and blind to any signs of greater “Life.”

Senator Feingold Has Constitutional Opportunity

March 15th, 2009

Joel S. Hirschhorn

Like others promoting constitutional amendments, Senator Russ Feingold, Democrat, Wisconsin, apparently is unaware of the refusal by Congress to obey Article V of the Constitution. He has a fine idea: every senator must actually be elected rather than appointed to that position. In 1913 the 17th amendment created the potential for governors to make appointments to fill Senate seats until the next regular scheduled general election and 38 states allow this; there have been 185 such appointments. Feingold is right to condemn “decisions being made solely by the powerful, without the consent, or even the input, of the people.”

The Armenian Genocide: Facts, Players, Two Documentaries, The Truth With Obama, and ADL vs. The City of Watertown, Massachusetts

March 14th, 2009

by chycho

The Armenian Genocide, also known as the Armenian Holocaust, the Armenian Massacres and, by Armenians, the Great Calamity - refers to the deliberate and systematic destruction (genocide) of the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire during and just after World War I. It was characterised by the use of massacres, and the use of deportations involving forced marches under conditions designed to lead to the death of the deportees, with the total number of Armenian deaths generally held to have been between one and one-and-a-half million.”

Toxic Irony

March 14th, 2009

Andrew Lehman

We are passing out of the age of irony and entering a stage of blame.

"Irony" has many connotations. For me, a suspicion of underlying processes and an expectation of disappointment cover much of what the word implies. Observing and comparing incongruities helps predict that manipulations are being engaged. We come to expect hidden motives. Quality relationship and communication become depreciated by expectation of differences between the hidden and the seen.

Gov. Richardson to decide future of death penalty in NM

March 14th, 2009

Mary Shaw

On Friday, March 13, the New Mexico Senate voted 24-18 to repeal the death penalty in that state. This action follows a corresponding vote in the New Mexico House of Representatives in February.

So the bill is on its way to Governor Bill Richardson's desk. The future of the death penalty in New Mexico is now in his hands.

And, unfortunately, he appears to be on the fence.

Ideas That Have Helped and Ideas That Have Harmed Mankind

March 14th, 2009

Len Hart

It is said that Galileo recanted but muttered under his breath --"but it does move". Galileo had sinned against the Church. He had dared to indulge an independent opinion, a 'right' that Americans have sadly taken for granted. Whether Galileo was more fortunate than Giordano who was burned is a matter of debate. In England, Sir Thomas More was given the choice between conscience or King. More chose conscience and paid for it with his life. Just as we moderns had grown complacent, a recent regime forced upon us an existentialist choice. By supporting the regime of George W. Bush, Americans are morally complicit in the crimes of aggressive war and mass murder.

Updating the Militarization and Annexation of North America

March 13th, 2009

Stephen Lendman

The title refers to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), also known as the North American Union - formerly launched at a March 23, 2005 Waco, Texas meeting attended by George Bush, Mexico's President Vincente Fox, and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. It's for a tri-national agreement, below the radar, for greater economic, political, and security integration with secret business and government working groups devising binding policies with no public knowledge or legislative debate.

In short, it's a military-backed corporate coup d'etat against the sovereignty of three nations, their populations and legislative bodies. It's a dagger through the heart of democratic freedom in all three, yet the public is largely unaware of what's happening.
