Phony Claims of Iranian Rockets Fired Near Western Vessels

January 16th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Unrelenting US anti-Iranian hostility persists. Media repeated propaganda highlights it.

Tehran remains a strategic Washington enemy, intending new sanctions, wrongfully claiming its legitimate ballistic missile tests violate last year’s nuclear agreement.

Security Council Resolution 1929 only prohibits Iranian development of missiles designed to carry nuclear warheads. Tehran has none, has no plans to develop any. No evidence suggests otherwise.

It’s tests are entirely legitimate, in full compliance with Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) terms. Claims otherwise are false.

US imposition of sanctions will constitute a serious JCPOA breach - showing Washington was never serious about terms it agreed to. Its sordid history shows treaties and other deals consummated systematically violated, spurious reasons given.

The Deplorable US State of the Union

January 15th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

America represents the greatest pure evil force in world history. Rutherford Institute’s John Whitehead blasted Obama’s deplorable agenda, calling it:

“more bureaucratic, more debt-ridden, more violent, more militarized, more fascist, more lawless, more invasive, more corrupt, more untrustworthy, more mired in war, and more unresponsive to the wishes and needs of the electorate.”

“Most of all, the government, already diabolical and manipulative to the nth degree, has mastered the art of ‘do what I say and not what I do’ hypocrisy.” Annual US presidential State of the Union Addresses are exercises in duplicity, hyperbole, self-aggrandizement, promises made to be broken and bald-faced lies.

Obama’s final annual address to Congress and the US public was like his earlier ones, beginning-to-end demagoguery - a con man concealing his ruthless agenda, exclusively serving wealth and power interests, waging endless wars on humanity at home and abroad, an imperial agenda threatening life on earth.

None of the Above

January 15th, 2016

Rosemarie Jackowski

"Are all democrats and republicans unethical? Absolutely not, but their membership in a corrupt organization does put them in a bad light."

How many times have you heard someone say that there is no one to vote for? Only someone who has been living in the democratic/republican bubble would ever make that statement. There is no shortage of candidates. There is a shortage of informed voters. There is a shortage of voters with enough information to look outside the D/R bubble.

In many states there is a write-in option; that means that there are an infinite number of potential candidates. In states where there is no write-in option, the democratic electoral process is compromised.

The Palestinians MUST put their political act together if their cause is to be kept alive

January 15th, 2016

Alan Hart

For several years I have been wondering, sometimes on public platforms and in writing, if Palestine is a lost cause. I have now come to the conclusion that as things are it is and will remain so unless the Palestinians, the occupied and oppressed and the diaspora, put their political act together in order to give their cause new life with some real hope of justice eventually.

In my view the most telling indicator of the political bankruptcy and irrelevance of the leadership provided by the Palestinian Authority (PA) was the recent statement by its president, Mahmoud Abbas, that it's up to international community to bring about a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The reality Abbas chooses to ignore is that as things are there is absolutely no reason to believe that the American-led Western powers (or any others) will ever use the leverage they have to try to cause Israel to end its defiance of international law and denial of justice for the Palestinians.

A Minute to Midnight: It's Time To Denounce the Saudi Barbarism

January 15th, 2016

larouchepac

Justice for the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks has been
stopped for too long by George W. Bush and Barack Obama; and now,
heading off world war depends on bringing about that justice.

The mass executions by the barbaric Saudi regime on Jan. 2, which are now
polarizing the entire Muslim world again, must be denounced widely by all civilized people, before Saudi actions trigger a new global war.

The first and immediate step must be the immediate release of the secret 28
pages from the original Congressional Joint Inquiry into 9/11, which detailed
the direct role of the Saudi Monarchy in organizing those attacks on New York and Washington. President George W. Bush buried those 28 pages, and President Barack Obama has kept them buried. House bill H. Res. 14 andSenate bill S. 1471 have been demanding their release. But the time has come to bring the contents of those 28 pages to the floors of the House and Senate, and to all Americans.Had those contents been out, there would be no Islamic State threat today, and the Saudi sponsorship of global jihadist terrorism would have been halted13 years ago.

More Evidence of Turkey Aiding ISIS

January 14th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Evidence keeps mounting on how Turkey directly aids ISIS, complicit with Washington, other NATO countries and regional partners.

Foreign support lets terrorist groups in Syria, Iraq and Libya thrive. Without it they’d become a spent force, unable to operate effectively on their own - what media scoundrels never explain, perpetuating the myth of US war on ISIS.

On January 10, London’s Guardian headlined “Isis ‘ran sophisticated immigration operation” on Turkey-Syria border,” saying:

Documents seized by Kurdish forces dated December 2014 - March 2015 have ISIS “department of immigration” and “department of transport” stamps.

Disastrous California Methane Leak

January 14th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Methane is the main component of natural gas - colorless, odorless and potentially explosive when mixed with air.

It’s an asphyxiant, in high concentrations able to displace oxygen needed to breathe. It can cause dizziness, headaches, bodily weakness, blurred vision, rapid heart rate, nausea, vomiting, unconsciousness, suffocation and future diseases from toxic exposure.

Everyone is exposed to low levels in outdoor air. Methane began spewing unstoppably from a leaky Southern California Porter Ranch well last October 23 - about 25 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

It took weeks to discover the Alison Canyon source, perhaps many more months to stop it, according to Southern California Gas (SOCAL).

Replace Our Sick Narcotics Policies

January 14th, 2016

Eric Zuesse

Existing narcotics policies lock-up addicts, punish them, instead of deal with the problem, which is the explosion of burglaries and robberies that are produced by addicts. Those thefts are resulting actually from the inflated, black-market, price that addicts must pay gangsters to feed their addiction. If the drugs were instead sold by the government, at the free-market prices that would exist if these drugs were legally sold over-the-counter as regular non-prescription and unpatented medications (and if the product is grown and manufactured by a government-owned corporation which is the only legal supplier of the product, and which wholesales the product at the price that would prevail if it were produced and marketed as a regular free-market product), then this would immediately put all of the illicit dealers out of business, and it would also immediately end the thefts, which are resulting from the need that addicts have to possess enough money to pay gangsters for their drugs at the current sky-high (artificially high) black-market price.

Syrians Besieged by Terrorists Risk Death

January 14th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

ISIS and other terrorist groups are killing Syrians they hold captive by appalling atrocities, exposure to freezing temperatures, denial of vital medical treatment, and starvation.

Syrian armed forces so far haven’t freed trapped Fuaa and Kafrya residents in Idlib province mountainous areas. They may freeze to death from exposure or perish from denial of essential to life services.

Syrians in Aleppo province Nubl and Al-Zahra areas are threatened the same way. Unknown numbers are dying out of sight and mind, their situation ignored by media scoundrels - suffering at the hands of US-supported ISIS and other terrorist groups, holding them captive under siege and endless war.

Saudis Escalate Tensions with Iran

January 14th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Riyadh and Tehran are regional rivals, each nation pursuing polar opposite policies.

Iran forthrightly supports regional peace, stability and mutual cooperation. Saudi Arabia is a monster regime, lawlessly pursuing a rogue agenda - the epicenter of Middle East violence and chaos, fostering terrorism, denying its people fundamental rights free societies take for granted.

On January 3, Riyadh cut diplomatic ties, trade and air links with Iran, likely pre-planned, using the phony pretext of justifiably angry Iranians storming its Tehran embassy over the extrajudicial execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
