Venezuela's Maduro Inaugurated

April 21st, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Latin American and other heads of state attended Maduro's inaugural ceremony. Earlier he accused opposition forces of triggering post-election violence.

"We have stopped a coup in its first stage," he said. "They are beaten, but they are coming back with a new attack." On Thursday, he flew to Lima.

He attended an emergency UNASUR meeting with other Latin American leaders. He did so to discuss what's ongoing. It continues. Opposition leader Capriles publicly urged supporters to carry out desruptive actions.

Washington's long arm is involved. Maduro understands the threat. Hopefully he's up to the challenge.

Where did they find the money to send troops to Jordan?

April 21st, 2013

Michael Collins

That's your Sunday moment of Zen. We have sent troops to Jordan, specifically to the Jordan - Syria border.

The United States budget is in an state of disarray. The crazies and the sleepwalkers in Congress can't engage in rational analysis and planning, so we're forced into robo-budget cutting. Even without the histrionics of historic proportion, it is time to pay close attention to expenditures based on priorities for the vast majority of citizens. (Image)

The real unemployment rate is 23% when you count all those once employed who would work and those forced into part time employment. Our neglect of the environment and de facto stupidity has advanced climate change beyond the point of no return unless very prompt action is taken to correct the situation.

So what do those in power do? Send troops to Jordan.

When Will We Ever Learn?

April 20th, 2013

Franklin Lamb

This observer has no idea if the American Ambassador here in Beirut, Maury Connolly or Secretary of State John Kerrey has ever listened to Marlene Dietrich’s classic October 1965 performance of Pete Seeger’s “Where Have All The Flowers Gone,” still stunning, deeply moving and available on the Internet.

But on this 30th anniversary of the bombing of the US Embassy in Beirut I found myself near the old embassy site on the sea front for personal reasons, and stepped down the block below the American University of Beirut to meet a friend at Starbucks. When I entered, maybe the 5th time in my life I have been to a Starbucks since I don’t drink coffee and for political reasons tend to avoid the chain,I noticed someone was playing Dietrich’s classic.

Having just read reports in the Lebanese media concerning the American Ambassador and Secretary of State’s political comments on the embassy events, three decades on, Marlene’s enchanting, deep voiced, “When will they every learn,?” numbed me.

New Normal Terror Attack

April 20th, 2013

By Tony Soldo

One of the objectives of the false flag Boston Marathon bombing terror attack, was to create fear, confusion, anger, and hatred, in the subconscious minds of the masses, the millions of people who absorb and accept the "New Normal", whenever the people in power implement a tactic or agenda (Problem).

After the media saturates the minds of the masses, the government has a greater role in their lives to rule over them and control them.

The media conditioned the masses to cheer the police and soldiers after the suspect was caught, and the whole city of Boston came out of their houses, cheering the soldiers and police, waving their flags, and singing the national anthem (Reaction).

The Bloom Is Off Gold

April 20th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

It is for now. Don't bet against it longer term. Value eventually wins out. Gold's secular bull market continues. Experts believe it has a long way to go.

Market manipulation bears full responsibility for recent market action. A previous article explained. It called gold a global thermometer. It reflects monetary, geopolitical and economic conditions. It's driven by supply and demand considerations.

It's the longstanding hedge against uncertainty. It's bought to do so against inflation, the declining value of fiat money, and disturbing global geopolitical conditions.

Boston Black Ops: Manufacturing Terror

April 20th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Mounting evidence suggests state-sponsored terrorism. Expect more later to confirm it. Cui bono matters most. Powerful interests benefit hugely. Ordinary people lose out.

War on terror 2.0 looms. Innocent people will suffer. Expect more repressive laws. Military spending will increase. Homeland security will be boosted. Fundamental freedoms will die. Full-blown tyranny may follow. It's already a hair's breath away.

Imperial wars on humanity will continue. New targets will be chosen. Independent governments will be attacked. New world order rules demand unchallenged global dominance. The worst of all possible outcomes may follow. State-sponsored terror facilitates it.

Bush and Obama: Dangerous Narcissists

April 19th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Canadian psychiatrist Robert Hare analyzes psychopathic behavior. He does so clinically. He believes about 1% of the general population is insane. So are 10% of Wall Street employees, he says.

Hare states:

"There is a class of individuals who have been around forever and who are found in every race, culture, society and walk of life." "Everybody has met these people, been deceived and manipulated by them, and forced to live with or repair the damage they have wrought."

"These often charming - but always deadly - individuals have a clinical name: psychopaths."

Collapse and Resurrection

April 19th, 2013

By Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers

The economic news in the last two weeks points to bad news for the economy and a reason for people to mobilize and demand change.

We’ll get to the impact of the Obama budget, but first let’s explode a critical myth: there is no recovery. Last month’s unemployment numbers showed the fraud of the unemployment rate. Even though the country produced less than 90,000 jobs, when over 120,000 are needed to keep up with growth, the unemployment rate declined. Why? Because hundreds of thousands are giving up on work each month and they don’t get counted. Now, over 100 million working age Americans do not have a job, that is 58.5%. And, for some groups, African Americans and youth in particular, this is a persistent jobs crisis that ensures low incomes and little wealth for the future. And, workers who do have jobs are paid way too little, about half of the value of what they actually produce. There will be no recovery until these fundamentals change.

The combination of poor federal economic policy – which is getting more off-track – and a corrupt economy is bringing on the next crash. In an article in Truthout last week, we point out the deep corruption of the finance system, which dominates the economy. Security fraud expert Bill Black told us that the evidence shows that fraud is “pervasive” among the “most elite financial institutions,” yet the Obama government policy was no prosecution. The Economic Collapse Blog points out there are 11 crashes going on right now: gold, silver, bitcoins, consumer confidence, 401(k) retirement accounts, casino gambling, Greek employment, European financial stocks, Spanish bankruptcies and energy demand; and predicts the bloated US stock market is next.

Palestinian Prisoners Day

April 19th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On April 17, Palestinians commemorate Prisoners Day. They do so annually. They've done it since 1979. It marks Mahmoud Hijazi's release. Israel freed him in its first ever prisoner swap.

Addameer honored thousands in Israel's gulag. They're held lawlessly. Now's "the time to hold the Occupation accountable for crimes against the prisoners and detainees," it said.

Freeing them remains a top priority. "Their struggle is central to the liberation of Palestinian land and the return of its people. It represents the frontline of peace and justice."

Obama as the Cover for U.S. Perpetual War, Austerity, and Racism

April 18th, 2013

By Larry Pinkney

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”
–Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Hide nothing from the masses of our people. Tell no lies. Expose lies whenever they are told. Mask no difficulties, mistakes, failures. Claim no easy victories.”
–Amilcar Cabral

The narrative [i.e. the stories] of struggling everyday ordinary Black, White, Brown, Red, and Yellow people in this nation and throughout Mother Earth, must be told and retold, by we ourselves, in-perpetuity. If we do not consistently present our collective narrative, our past and current struggles for social, economic, and political justice will be twisted, disfigured, distorted, and/or omitted by systemic usurpers.
