Hollywood-Style History

February 28th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Hollywood's complicity with Washington is longstanding. Movie moguls are duplicitous. The only thing they like like better than good films are good deals.

Washington's requests are prioritized. Scripts feature pro-Western propaganda. "Operation Hollywood" explains.

Daily Variety/Hollywood Reporter David Robb's book discussed Hollywood's longstanding relationship with the Pentagon.

It began post-WW 1. The 1927 silent film "Wings" starred Clara Bow. It launched Gary Cooper's career. It was about two WW I fighter pilot friends. It won Hollywood's first best picture award.

"Hollywood Goes to War: How Politics, Profits and Propaganda Shaped World War II Movies" tells more. Clayton Koppes and Gregory Black explained. It discusses Franklin Roosevelt's Office of War Information. It had enormous influence on Hollywood.

Sequestration Sorrows for the Extremist Republicans

February 28th, 2013

Michael Collins

May you have incompetent, offensive enemies.

 photo pew_zpsae524a8d.jpg

President Obama and the congressional Democrats have the luck of the Irish, truly. They've already won the Battle of the Fiscal Cliff due to the good judgment of the people. That judgement takes facts into consideration. The sequestration process is a blunt instrument wielded by a Frankenstein process that accounts for nothing sensible in terms of solving the main concern of the public; the seriously flawed, destructive economic cycle that is dragging us to a place nobody sensible wants to go. The PEW survey to the left shows that a majority think the economy in general (60%) and the military in particular (55%) will suffer due to this pathetic process of histrionic policy making.

That puts the wisdom of the people in line with the judgement of over 95% of leading economists surveyed recently who say that "growth is likely to be negatively affected by the automatic federal spending cuts that are scheduled to kick in Friday." It makes sense. The economy is weak, unemployment, all those out of work seeking work, is around 22%, and many citizens are one paycheck away from their own fiscal cliff.

Here are some highly revealing polls and headlines from around the country late Wednesday, early today.

News Services Fake Dorner Manifesto, Quick-Shooting Police Mistake Little Women for a Big Man

February 27th, 2013

by Ruth Hull

Chris Dorner

Warning to all women. If you are young or old, and especially if you are unarmed, watch out for the police as they may mistake you for a fully armed big muscular male former police officer and shoot you.

Ask Maggie Carranza and Emma Hernandez, both of whom were mistaken for Chris Dorner and shot by the police. Neither were armed. It didn't matter than Emma was 71 and a much smaller build than a big muscular guy. The police have made it clear that it is shoot to kill and shooting the wrong people is preferable to shooting nobody at all.

What odds do you think the real Chris Dornan has of being brought in alive? In your own self-defense, you might want to call LAPD media relations at 213 486 5900 and ask that they bring Dorner in alive and STOP SHOOTING PEOPLE before you wind up their net accidental target.

Obama's Asia Pivot

February 27th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

In late 2011, Obama prioritized reasserting America's Pacific presence. His Asia pivot was announced.

It involves advancing America's military footprint. Doing so aggressively is planned. China's growing economic might and military strength are targeted. So is checking Russia at the same time.

Containment is policy. Cold war politics is back. Unchallenged global dominance is prioritized. Anything goes intends to maintain it.

War in a part of the world hostile to invaders is possible. Vietnam echoes remain audible. So are Afghanistan ones today. China's a far more formidable adversary. So is Russia.

It's hard imagining any country challenging them militarily. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. America hasn't won a war since WW II. Lessons weren't learned.

Israeli Murder by Torture

February 25th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Torture is official Israeli policy. It's longstanding. All Palestinians are fair game. Wanting to live free leaves them vulnerable. More on what demands condemnation below.

Thirty-year old Arafat Jaradat is Israel's latest victim. PA chief pathologist Saber Aloul attended his autopsy. Marks on his body provided clear evidence. He died from torture.

He was married with two young children. In June, his wife Dalal expects another. She's on her own to survive.

In early February, Israel lawlessly arrested her husband. Family members confirmed he was in good health at the time. He was taken to Jalameh Detention Center. He was transferred to Megiddo Prison.

Obama's Clean, Green Fukushima Plumegate Machine

February 24th, 2013

By Tracy Turner

What do Ann Coulter and Barack Obama have in common? Pay attention to the following video link where Ann Coulter uses the phrase, "the minimum amount of radiation, * you should be exposed to *." Ann Coulter's assertion that nuclear radiation is like a health suntan is insane. Here is what Japan now looks like, atomically speaking. The Obama administration Fukushima cover-up is known as Plumegate cover-up (primarily leaked on The Intel Hub).

Ann Coulter's not-so-subtle slip of the tongue, as if implied one has a minimum daily dose needed for radiation, as one does for Vitamin C. The West Coast of the US received Radioactive Iodine Fukushima, but the government forgot to mention radioactive Strontium 90 and Cesium 137. Any dosage of radiation is a cumulative cancer antagonist. Who do you trust more, Ann Coulter or Helen Caldicott? Do you trust Barack Obama with the nuke industry or Dr. Doug Rokke; Monsanto Lawyer Hillary Clinton or Nuclear Expert/Physician Dr. Helen Caldicott? Helen Caldicott has actually treated radiation victims.

Mining is just the first step, and then there is Uranium milling, more carbon from conventional power plants, and one more filthy, toxic nuclear HAZMAT site in need of decontamination. Nuke industry apologists use words like clean, safe and cheap, ignoring dirty, killer or Wake Up and When the Dust Settles by David Bradbury.

UNESCO Peace Prize to a War Criminal

February 24th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

It shouldn't surprise. Nobel committee members prioritize doing it. America's Presidential Medal of Freedom honors genocidists. So does Israel's equivalent award.

UNESCO is the UN's educational, scientific and cultural organization. It stresses "building peace in the minds of men and women."

It "works to create the conditions for dialogue among civilizations, cultures and peoples, based upon respect for commonly shared values."

Through dialogue it hopes "world can achieve global visions of sustainable development encompassing observance of human rights, mutual respect and the alleviation of poverty, all of which are at the heart of UNESCO’S mission and activities."

More Economic Straight Talk

February 24th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

There's far too little of it around. TV talking heads shun it. All's well in the world, they say. They don't dare report accurately. Their jobs depend on manipulative deception.

Financial truisms bear repeating. Money creation madness assures trouble. Irrational exuberance follows. So do bubbles.

Imploding is just a matter of time. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. It happened in 2000 and 2008. Perhaps this year or next is 3.0. The fullness of time will tell. Excess creates its own demise.

New era rhetoric doesn't wash. Market analyst Bob Farrell's Rule Number Three says "There are no new eras - excesses are never permanent."

Reality has final say. It arrives in its own due course. Often it's when least expected.

On February 22, market analyst Marc Faber said stock markets peaked. At the same time, bonds may rebound. "I think we have made an intermediate top, and it could be a longer-term" one, he believes.

Markets are "significant(ly) overextended." Bullish sentiment is extreme. "Everybody says 'sell bonds, buy equities.' And when everybody thinks alike, one has to be careful."

Washington Backs Syrian Anti-Government Terrorism

February 24th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Make no mistake. Syria is Washington's war. It was planned years ago. Regime change is policy. At issue is replacing Assad's government with a pro-Western puppet one.

Washington tolerates no independent governments. It demands subservience to US policies. Outliers are targeted for removal. Options include war.

Mass slaughter and destruction don't matter. Unchallenged dominance is policy. It's longstanding, ruthless and lawless.

Western-recruited death squads ravage Syria. They've done so for two years. They're imported from abroad. Rules of engagement include mass murder, torture, and other atrocities.
