Israel's war threats: Sheer hollow propaganda

November 17th, 2011

Kourosh Ziabari

Israel has awkwardly and desperately renewed its outworn war threats against Iran in the recent weeks, indicating that it's getting prepared to launch a military strike on the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities.

Last week, the Zionist regime successfully test fired a missile which is said to have the capability of carrying a nuclear warhead and reach Iran, as well as Russia and China. On November 2, the TV stations around the world screened footages of a rocket-propulsion system being launched from somewhere around Israel coastal Palmachim military base. The missile's range is claimed to be 10,000 kilometers and therefore, Iran will be easily within the reach of it, in the case that a military attack on Iran is opted for.

Western Wars and Arab Authoritarianism: Killing the Mankind

November 16th, 2011

Mahboob A. Khawaja, Ph.D.

“Why of course the people don’t want war….but after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a parliament or a communist dictatorship….Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.” (Hermann Goering, former Nazi Minister at the Nuremberg Trials)

“Imperial states build networks which link economic, military and political activities into a coherent mutually reinforcing system. This task is largely performed by the various institutions of the imperial state. Thus imperial action is not always directly economic, as military action in one country or region is necessary to open or protect economic zones. Nor are all military actions decided by economic interests if the leading sector of the imperial state is decidedly militarist.” (James Petras, “Networks of Empire and Realignments of World Power”, Dissident Voice, 01/2011)

America's Media War on Iran

November 15th, 2011

by Stephen Lendman

When Washington goes to war or threatens it, America's media march in lockstep, cheerleading. Fiction substitutes for fact.

News is carefully filtered, dissent marginalized, and supporting imperial belligerence substitutes for full and accurate disclosure.

As a result, patriotism means going along with rogue policies. Never mind rule of law principles and democratic values. Free and open societies are risked. So is humanity if belligerents overstep.

The IAEA Iranian nuclear program report stirred a hornet's nest of inflammatory commentary, no matter the agency's fabricated contents. Previous US intelligence assessments refuted them, including most recently in March 2011. Nonetheless, IAEA allegations proved red meat for America's media. Commentaries from three major broadsheets are typical.

This Beat Down is for Your Health - the Money Party Must Stop Occupy Movements

November 14th, 2011

By Michael Collins

"The problems we are facing were not created by us, but we deign to shed light on them and so we are blamed for them. The truth is, every person at our protest is there because the system is broken." Samuel Rutledge, Open Newswire, Portland Indymedia

The fascist financiers of the Money Party are growing restless. Occupy Wall Street began with a call to action from the activist online group Anonymous in August. It was barely featured in the mainstream or alternate media. Instead of a small crowd that could easily be ignored then disbursed, fifty thousand citizens showed up at the headquarters for the world financial system, Wall Street. Despite the best efforts of Mayor Bloomberg and NYPD, the Occupy Wall Street continues. The message went out to the country and the world. Now, there are over 100 occupy events in Oakland, Kansas City, Washington, DC, and elsewhere. (Image: K. Kendall)

Occupy Portland began on October 6, 2011. It has maintained a steady presence in downtown Portland, a major West Coast center of commerce. The participants refuse to leave until the government addresses their grievances. Police scare tactics, planted provocateurs, and the elements are no barrier.

War of Words on Iran

November 14th, 2011

by Stephen Lendman

Provocative rhetoric followed release of the IAEA report on Iran's nuclear program, despite baseless allegations in it.

In October 2009, the Agency leaked a document titled "Possible Dimensions of Iran's Nuclear Program" to the New York Times. At issue was circumventing then IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei. Allegations in it were spurious. As a result, he wouldn't touch it.

Two months later Yukiuya Amano replaced him. IAEA was politicized. In December 2010, the London Guardian published a leaked US embassy cable saying he's "director general of all states, but in agreement with us." Its title was: "Amano ready for prime time."

US forces to fight Boko Haram in Nigeria

November 14th, 2011

by Atheo

The Obama regime is now involving US military forces in yet another African conflict in which the US has no apparent defense imperative. The use of military power has seen a relentless increase across the continent under Obama’s reign with no consideration for pursuit of conflict resolution by any other means.

The single minded focus on military dominance is reflected in this recent bizarre report in the Nigerian Village Square:

In very strong terms the US government is speaking out against Nigeria’s government’s efforts at negotiating with Boko Haram, insisting that it might be impossible for the federal government to convince Boko Haram to end their violence, which the Americans consider as “absolutely unjustifiable,” because many of such terror groups are “absolutely unreconcilable,” [sic] according to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Anti-Democratic Israeli Legislation

November 14th, 2011

by Stephen Lendman

On October 31, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) expressed concern about "two contradictory main trends" in Israel's Knesset winter session:

● following its previous one, enacting more anti-democratic laws; and

● counter-measures to promote laws promoting social and economic rights, perhaps incentivized by summer social justice protests.

Mostly, however, anti-democratic measures outnumber alternatives. ACRI expressed alarm. On November 8, a brief report headlined, "Knesset Continues Attempts to Silence Civil Society," saying:

Last week, Israel's Knesset winter session began. So far, proposed social justice bills lost out to anti-democratic ones. A coalition defeated them. Expect an amendment severely curtailing free expression to pass.

America's New World Order Agenda

November 13th, 2011

by Stephen Lendman

New world order strategy dictates major global economic, political, and military policies. Nothing happens accidentally.

Events are manipulated. At issue is world dominance. America, Israel, and key NATO nations are partnered to achieve it.

Wars, economic disruption, financial terrorism, and other upheavals play out in real time. Grand schemes lie behind them.

Today's economic crisis wasn't happenstance. It was well planned, willful policy to transfer unprecedented wealth to private hands.

The Russell Tribunal on Palestine: South Africa Session

November 13th, 2011

by Stephen Lendman

Launched on March 4, 2009, "The Russell Tribunal on Palestine (RToP) seeks to reaffirm the primacy of international law (to settle) the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (by focusing on) the enunciation of law by authoritative bodies (and) address(ing) the failure of application of law even though it has been so clearly identified."

It begins where the International Court of Justice "stopped: highlighting the responsibilities arising from the enunciation of law, including those of the international community, which cannot continue to shirk its obligations."

RToP follows in the BRussell Tribunal's tradition, named after famed philosopher, mathematician, and anti-war/anti-imperialism activist Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970). Over 50 years ago he warned:

"Shall we put an end to the human race, or shall mankind renounce war" and live in peace, because no other option is possible.

Established in 1967, the BRussell Tribunal investigated Vietnam war crimes. More recently, it addressed Iraq war ones and imperial America under Bush and Obama.

RToP exposes Israeli crimes against Palestinian civilians. It wants decades of colonialism, occupation and apartheid replaced by justice, equality, and peace.
