Congress is requiring in its $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that automakers install monitoring systems in their cars to stop drivers from operating their vehicles while intoxicated. .Some convicted drunk drivers already have to use breathalyzer devices attached to their vehicles' ignition interlock. By blowing into a tube, system will disable the vehicle if the individual's blood alcohol level is above the legal threshold. The infrastructure bill does not specify type of technology required, implies it would not be a breathalyzer because the system must 'passively monitor the performance of a driver to accurately identify if driver impaired.'
