First war is immensely profitable. * Second, when it comes to promoting war globally, consider the U.S. military’s structure and mission. How could this country return to“isolationism” when it has 750 military bases scattered on every continent; Third, consider the dominant narrative in Washington. Despite never-ending war-footing , Americans are sold on the idea we are a high-minded nation desirous of peace , the U.S. is always the good guy, enemies, like President Putin’s Russia uniquely evil . Fourth, war unifies and distracts. it helped unify American people, repeatedly reminded to “support our troops” as “heroes” in fight against “global terror.” At the same time, it’s distracted from the class war in this country, where poor and working class and, increasingly, a shrinking middle class are losing out. Fifth, wars, from Afghan and Iraq to the never-ending global war on terror, including the present one in Ukraine, have served as distractions from; America’s national decline and political dysfunction.
