The U.S. will spend a record amount on arms purchases in 2024
The U.S. will spend a record $170 billion on arms purchases in 2024. | WASHINGTON, March 13 - RIA Novosti. The U.S. plans to spend a record amount on arms purchases in 2024, the White House draft budget for the Defense Department suggests. "The budget funds $170 billion for procurement (which will be) the largest in history," the publication indicated. The Pentagon's draft budget would provide a record $145 billion investment in weapons research, development and testing.

The U.S. military department has requested $30.6 billion for ammunition purchases. The requested amount is 5.8 billion more than the amount appropriated last year. Of the total amount, the plan is to provide for the purchase of:

  Tactical missiles - $17.3 billion;
  Strategic missiles, $7.3 billion;
  Ammunition, $5.6 billion.

Besides, 600 million dollars will be spent on the technological development and more than 1 billion dollars on the producing base of the military equipment. Washington [also] will spend $6.2 billion to build a second Columbia ballistic missile submarine. Investments to modernize the country's nuclear complex will total $37.7 billion. [Not to be outdone,] the Pentagon has also requested $5.3 billion for the development and purchase of the B-21 strategic bomber. "Procurement of 24 hypersonic missiles," reads the line item as part of an $11 billion investment in high-flying precision-guided weapons. As Department head Lloyd Austin, whose words are cited in the publication, noted, deterrence remains the cornerstone of U.S. defense. (Translation: DeepL.com)
