The European Commission has said that Thierry Breton did not consult them before sending a threatening letter to Elon Musk, ahead of his two-hour conversation with US presidential candidate Donald Trump. Breton is the Internal Market commissioner in charge of enforcing the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA). His letter insinuated that Musk had an obligation to censor potentially “harmful content” on X, the platform he owns that was formerly known as Twitter. “The timing and the wording of the letter were neither co-ordinated or agreed with the president nor with the [commissioners],” a European Commission spokesman said on Tuesday.
