Senate Judiciary Committee, whose chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), last December referred Planned Parenthood and several other abortion providers to the FBI for investigation after a lengthy probe into the transfers of fetal tissue.
Grassley said at the time that his committee had uncovered enough evidence in its final investigative report to show abortion providers had transferred tissue and body parts from aborted fetuses to firms for use in research by charging dollar amounts above their actual costs.
The Justice Department declined comment, saying it does not confirm nor deny whether an investigation is taking place.
It was two summers ago that the Center for Medical Progress released undercover videos allegedly showing Planned Parenthood’s illegal selling of aborted baby parts, including hearts, lungs, livers, and brains, for profit.

The Zimbabwean army has said president Robert Mugabe and his wife have been taken into custody after gunfire was heard near his compound and troops seized control of the state broadcaster.
Loud explosions were heard in Harare in the early hours of Wednesday after military vehicles rolled into the capital, triggering speculation of a "bloodless" coup.
The blasts and gunfire came hours after a military chief warned the army could "step in" amid a political crisis sparked by 93-year-old Mr Mugabe firing his vice president - and likely successor - Emmerson Mnangagwa earlier this month.
General Constantino Chiwenga, commmander of Zimbabwe's defence forces, had demanded an end to a purge in the ruling ZANU-PF party - which appeared to be paving the way for Mr Mugabe's 52-year-old wife Grace to succeed him.
Those awaiting cash transfers at a bank may wait a month to be cleared and, even then, the transfer may be refused. In October, Zimbabwe demand started to impact the global price of the cryptocurrency, and two weeks ago we noted the doubling of the price of Bitcoin in Zimbabwe as uncertainty about the nation's stability sent citizens into a decentralized currency that was out of Mugabe's reach. Bitcoin isn’t just being bought by individuals, but by businesses with bills to pay.

A year ago, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the Turkish public to keep savings in gold and avoid the US dollar, urging the central bank to back that policy.
At the same time, the exchange value of the Turkish lira has dropped 15 percent since the beginning of October. The plunge inevitably makes the national currency increasingly unattractive as a savings vehicle.

The U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe urged American citizens to "shelter in place" early Wednesday as troops were seen in the streets of the capital amid rising political turmoil surrounding the country's 93-year-old president, Robert Mugabe; cited "ongoing political uncertainty through the night" and added the embassy would be closed to the public on Wednesday. The British embassy issued a similar warning, citing "reports of unusual military activity."
Shortly after the embassy statements, Zimbabwe's army sought to reassure the country that "this is not a military takeover" and that while Mugabe was safe and sound, the military was targeting "criminals around him" who have sent the nation spinning into economic despair.
The army took control of the state Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation late Tuesday and an army spokesman made the statement: "As soon as we have accomplished our mission, we expect that the situation will return to normalcy.

This is the first confirmed case of the gene editing of human embryos in the US; one step closer to the ability to create genetically engineered humans.
CRISPR,, is a powerful and comparatively new genetic engineering technique that allows scientists to make specific, targeted changes to the DNA of a plant, animal, or human. It’s relatively cheap and easy to use and has the potential to cure a wide range of diseases, such as muscular dystrophy or HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). But scientists seem to be using it to create designer humans and animals instead leading to ethics questions.
In 2015, Chinese scientists used CRISPR to make muscled beagles, fear that gene editing will lead to a world of designer babies

The regional confrontation between the two nations separated geographically by the narrow Persian Gulf is deeply rooted in sectarian, political, and economic competition. Saudi Arabia and Iran follow the two rival sects of Islam with a long history of violence. They compete in the currently troubled energy market, with Tehran holding a grudge over the share it has lost due to sanctions imposed by Riyadh’s American patrons. They fight proxy battles, often violently, in places like Bahrain, Yemen, and Lebanon.

Russia will produce at least 83 million tons of wheat in the current growing season. Lower prices and close proximity to large markets gives Russia an advantage.

For decades, after a French village was struck by mass insanity and hallucinations in 1951, it was widely believed that a local bakery’s flour had become contaminated by ergot, a poisonous fungus that occurs naturally on rye and causes hallucinations. However, a discovery by an investigative journalist doing research for a book about the incident uncovered evidence that the village’s food was intentionally contaminated with LSD as part of a secret CIA mind control experiment.

Saudi Arabia laid the blame for the attack on Iran claiming it would not have happened had Iran not been supporting Houthi rebels in Yemen. "Iran's role and its direct command of its Houthi proxy in this matter constitutes a clear act of aggression that targets neighboring countries, and threatens peace and security in the region and globally. "Therefore, the coalition's command considers this a blatant act of military aggression by the Iranian regime, and could rise to be considered as an act of war against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia." Saudi Arabia said it "reserves [the] right to respond to Iran in the appropriate time and manner."
