Lord Jones co-founder Cindy Capobianco describes her luxury cannabis-infused product in the same manner as any maker of a prestige natural skincare brand: it's made in small batches, organic ingredients, medicinal value of said ingredients. With a body lotion and face products slated for release later this year, Lord Jones is trying to be a prestige natural skincare brand. One major difference: Lord Jones employs a team of lawyers to ensure they don’t have to tussle with the DEA over a moisturizer.
Though cannabis is more mainstream than ever with 29 states and Washington, D.C. having legalized medical and/or recreational marijuana, the fact that it's still classified by the federal government as a Schedule I drug means companies like Lord Jones are racking up the legal fees as they attempt to navigate the grey area of selling cannabis-based skincare products. Cannabis has at least 80 different cannabinoids, a group of active compounds which give the plant its medical and psychoactive properties.
Temperatures have become so cold in the Siberian region of Yakutia that people's eyelashes have started to freeze when they venture outside.
Siberian Times reports some locals had readings as low as -67C - in touching distance of the record -67.7C, in February 1933.
That temperature was the lowest ever recorded outside the Antarctic.

Japan’s national public broadcasting organization erroneously issued an emergency alert Tuesday signaling an imminent North Korean missile strike.
“North Korea appears to have launched a missile,” Japan’s national public broadcaster NHK announced Tuesday evening, “The government urges people to take shelter inside buildings or underground.”
NHK was “deeply” apologetic after it mistakenly sent out the inaccurate emergency alert. The J-alert system, which broadcasts over televisions, to mobile phones, on the radio, and over loudspeakers, is set up to warn the Japanese people in the event of an attack. There was no missile.
The mainstream media claiming a “flupocalypse” is devastating America. The solution? You’re all supposed to get injected with the mercury-laced flu shot. The CDC cancelled its planned nuclear attack survival lecture to shift its focus to the flu outbreak, claiming the flupocalypse was more important than surviving a nuclear attack. National health officials predict the shot may only be 30% effective, the three best things you can do to prevent the flu are:
Vitamin D
Zinc
Vitamin C

Virtual currencies are a new challenge for governments and businesses and could soon disappear, but the technology they are based on might remain, as happened with the internet, said Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Medvedev said theorists predicted the emergence of cryptocurrencies already in the middle of the last century. Nevertheless, digital currencies are a challenge for everyone, including the experts, he said.
“Today, everyone is wondering where’s the end for this ‘cryptocurrency race’. Maybe it’s the dead-end path of the cyber-revolution?” said Medvedev; added he couldn’t rule out a repeat of the early 1990s scenario when a large number of new companies emerged due to the developing internet, but later disappeared. The technology itself – the internet – not only remained, but also now plays a key role in our life, according to the Russian PM.

Two thirds of Russians believe their country has enemies in the international arena, with the US, Ukraine and the EU topping the list, a fresh survey by independent pollster Levada Center has revealed.
According to research conducted in early December, 66 percent of respondents considered that Russia has enemies, while 21 percent believed that the country exists in a peaceful international environment. Levada Center has been carrying out similar surveys for the last 23 years. The highest result in response to this question was recorded at the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict in 2014, when 84 percent of those surveyed said that Russia had enemies. When asked to specifically name Russia’s foreign enemies, the majority of respondents – 68 percent – singled out the US, which is no surprise as relations between Moscow and Washington are at their lowest in decades over accusations of election meddling, the imposition of sanctions, and other issues.

US President Donald Trump has said that the allegations of his campaign colluding with Russia by the “fake news media” are “dead”, as his former chief strategist Steve Bannon is set to testify before Congress and a grand jury.
Taking to his favorite social media platform, the POTUS accused the mainstream media of pushing conspiracy theories against him and his campaign.
"Do you notice the Fake News Mainstream Media never likes covering the great and record setting economic news, but rather talks about anything negative or that can be turned into the negative," Trump tweeted on Tuesday. "The Russian Collusion Hoax is dead, except as it pertains to the Dems. Public gets it!"

The Hawaii public employee who plunged the state into chaos by accidentally sending out an incoming-missile emergency alert Saturday has been re-assigned, according to reports.
The unnamed emergency-department worker will not be fired because he made an honest mistake, said Hawaii Emergency Management Agency spokesman Richard Rapoza.
“Part of the problem was it was too easy — for anyone — to make such a big mistake,” Rapoza said. “We have to make sure that we’re not looking for retribution, but we should be fixing the problems in the system. … I know that it’s a very, very difficult situation for him.” The agency has already put in place new safeguards to prevent such a misfire — including a “cancel” button that will immediately send out corrective alerts when an erroneous warning is issued

Turkey condemns the plans of the United States to create the so-called Border Security Force (BSF) on the Syrian territory controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces militia, given the absence of consultations with Ankara, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Monday in a statement obtained by Sputnik.
Saturday, the Defense Post news website published an article, in which the spokesman of the US-led coalition fighting against Daesh (Islamic State) terrorist group, said that the coalition was engaged in training of a 30,000-strong force on the territory within Syria currently controlled by SDF to maintain security in controlled area along the Syrian border.
"The coalition did not hold consultations with Turkey about the creation of [these] forces, and it is unknown what coalition members made this decision.
The U.S.-led coalition confirmed reports on Saturday that it will establish a 30,000-strong new border security force with the People’s Protection Units (YPG)-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria, a move that has already angered Turkey.
The coalition named the “new” army the Syrian Border Security Force (BSF). About 15,000 of the fighters will be SDF veterans as the fight against Daesh comes to a close. Another 15,000 will be recruited and trained in the near future. Currently, 230 individuals are training in the inaugural class, according to the coalition statement.

Faced with a public outcry following a false missile alert, Hawaiian officials apologized, saying an automated method of retracting warnings will be introduced and two employees, instead of one, will handle it in the future.
“We did everything that we can, immediately, to ensure that it will never happen again… so a single person will not be able to make an error that triggers another false alarm,” Vern Miyagi, Hawaii’s Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA) administrator said, as he accepted responsibility for the incident.
It was a single mouse click by a HI-EMA employee during a routine test that sent the entire state of Hawaii into panic, Miyagi revealed.
The wrong button was pushed on the test, it went into actual event versus a test,” he said. It was not literally a button, but part of a screen the employee erroneously clicked on to activate the alarm, according to Miyagi. As to why it took the agency nearly 40 minutes to inform the public that the alert was bogus, Miyagi said that officials were forced to go through a number of steps as there was no deactivation template in place.
“There was no an automated way to send a false alarm cancellation. We had to initiate a manual process and that was why it took a while to notify everyone,” Governor David Ige said.

A species of bee has been discovered that is miraculously capable of surviving in the high arctic region where the Soviet Union once tested nuclear weapons for decades, according to a new study.
The ‘Bombus glacialis’ species lives on the archipelago of Novaya Zemlya, which the Soviet Union closed off decades ago to carry out scores of nuclear tests. While previously considered to be a subspecies of the B. polaris - one of the only other arctic bee types in the world - a recent study published in Polar Biology confirmed B. glacialis to be its own species.
Hawaii emergency officials confirmed Saturday that an alert warning that a ballistic missile was inbound to the island was a mistake.
Earlier Saturday, Hawaiian citizens reported receiving an emergency alert on their phone that stated: “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”
House Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, tweeted in regard to the alert: “HAWAII – THIS IS A FALSE ALARM. THERE IS NO INCOMING MISSILE TO HAWAII. I HAVE CONFIRMED WITH OFFICIALS THERE IS NO INCOMING MISSILE.”
Centers For Disease Control and Prevention have scheduled a briefing for later this month that will teach healthcare professionals how to better prepare the public for a nuclear detonation in America.
The “teaching session” will target doctors, nurses, epidemiologists, pharmacists, veterinarians, certified health education specialists, laboratory scientists, and others and will be held January 16th.
A spokesperson for the agency said planning for the event has been underway for months — in fact, since CDC officials took part in a “radiation/nuclear incident exercise” led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency last April

Apple faces over two dozen lawsuits around the world that either accuse the company of intentionally slowing down older iPhones, or at least of failing to disclose power management changes it made starting in iOS 10.2.1.
The lawsuits include 24 class action complaints in the United States, Apple is also being sued in Israel and France.
An excerpt from Sullivan-Stefanou's complaint:
Unbeknownst to iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPhone 6s owners, Apple inserted code into iOS 10.2.1 that deliberately slowed down the processing performance of these phones by linking each phone's processing performance with its battery health. Absent the code inserted by Apple, the reduced battery capacity of these phones would not have negatively affected processing performance.
Many of the lawsuits demand Apple compensate all iPhone users who have experienced slowdowns, offer free battery replacements, refund customers who purchased brand new iPhones to regain maximum performance, and add info to iOS explaining how replacing an iPhone's battery can prevent slowdowns.
The legal action comes after Apple's revelation it may at times dynamically manage the maximum performance of some older iPhone models with chemically aged batteries in order to prevent the devices from unexpectedly shutting down, an issue that can be made worse by cold temperatures or a low charge.
Mosquitoes have evolved a type of genetic shield to protect themselves from chemical pesticides; human interventions have sparked an evolutionary response that allows them to resist pesticides that were designed to keep them at bay.
Mosquitoes have found ways to adapt to exposure to insecticides. Some advantageous mutations in insecticide target sites are big sources of resistance, mutations are increasing enzyme activity that sequesters or degrades insecticide before it makes its way to its target within the cell. Mosquitoes are changing their typical behaviors in order to prevent themselves from coming into contact with the pesticides.
Researcher Colince Kamdem wrote: “These changes are occurring at the molecular, physiological and behavioral level, and multiple changes are often happening at the same time.

Ethereum, the third-largest cryptocurrency by market value, has hit an all-time high after breaking through the $1,000 mark for the first time.
The digital currency rose above $1,000 per unit in early trading on Thursday. Ethereum’s rise echoes that of other alternative cryptocurrencies, such as ripple, which have experienced massive surges as bitcoin loses its market dominance. Ethereum’s market capitalization rose above $100 billion for the first time on Thursday, according to Coinmarketcap data. One ether was worth between $700 and $800 for most of the second half of December but, over the past week, this has rallied by 40 percent.
Ripple is still the second-biggest cryptocurrency by market capitalization after massive surges - including a 1,300-percent increase over the last month - led it to surpass ethereum a week ago.

At least 11 people have died near the Mexican resort town of Acapulco following a series of gunfights between local residents, the self-appointed community militia and federal government forces.
The showdown in the La Concepcion farming community erupted Sunday morning after a group of armed men fired shots into the air during local celebrations. The self-appointed community police, or CRAC (Regional Coordinator of Community Authorities) rushed to the scene to disarm the group. Three gunmen were detained and taken to the police station along with another man who tried to urinate in front of the building.
