Demonstration in Support of the Maryland Dream Act

A demonstration was held in Baltimore, on Saturday, January 7, 2012, in support of the "Maryland Dream Act." This law was passed by the General Assembly in 2011. It permits in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants. Then, the law was challenged by opponents. It will now appear on the ballot in November, 2012, via a referendum, for the voters to decide on whether or not it will be enforced. Today's demonstration was sponsored by the ANSWER Coalition, a national organization working for Peace & Justice. Its local organizer, Andrew Castro, shared his views on the event with me.
Rally to Save Lila Kara's Home

Lila Kara's home at 1433 W. Lombard Street is the subject of a foreclosure proceeding. On Saturday, Jan. 8, 2012, a rally was held in front of her home. Her case is pending in the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Nevertheless, the bank is pushing to have the Sheriff of Baltimore City evict her this Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at or around 10 AM. More than 200 spirited activists rallied in support of Bradley Manning outside of Fort Meade, Maryland, on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 17, 2011. It was the second day of Manning's trial. The National Coordinator of the ANSWER Coalition, Brian Becker, shared his views on the controversial whistleblower. He hailed Manning as "a hero."
