PREAMBLE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law,
Whereas it is essential to promote the development of friendly relations between nations,
Whereas the peoples of the United Nations have in the Charter reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women and have determined to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,

Former US Congresswoman, Cynthia McKinney (D-GA,) brought her "Truth Tour" to the historic Union Baptist Church, in Baltimore, MD, on August 25, 2011. Ms. McKinney has just returned from a fact-finding mission to war-torn Libya. In her remarks, she made some compelling comments about how the government and the "Special Interests Press" have used, and continues to use, their considerable resources to "demonize" peace and social justice activists. Ms. McKinney cited some examples of the activists targeted, via demonization. Of course, there are many more in that category. What I've noticed over the years, sadly, is how people who should know better buy into the demonization process. The event was sponsored by the "International Action Center." Chile has seen its first two-day national strike since the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship. This follows clashes with police in recent weeks as hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets to demonstrate against conservative President Sebastian Pinera. On the first day of the strike, protesters barricaded roads and burned tyres in parts of the capital, Santiago. The strike was called by Chile's main umbrella trade union CUT. Other national strikes since Pinochet's time 20 years ago have been called just for one day.

The world is now seeing the economic uncertainty of the U.S. but for many Americans, it has been apparent for quite some time. Economic despair has been spreading across our nation and it can be seen by the rising number of middle class Americans losing their homes. In some cases, joblessness and inability to pay rent has forced people to live in their cars, shelters, or on the sidewalk.

Richard L. Trumka, Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, was one of the featured speakers at the "International Workers Day Celebration" event, held on May 1, 2008, at the National Labor College, in Silver Spring, MD. He ripped into the evils of Globalization and the harmful effects that it is having on the economy and in particular on the lives of working class Americans. Mr. Trumka also charged: "Wall St. has hijacked the economy!" He is the former President of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA)
