"What no one seemed to notice. . . was the ever widening gap. . .between the government and the people. . . And it became always wider. . . the whole process of its coming into being, was above all diverting, it provided an excuse not to think for people who did not want to think anyway . . . (it) gave us some dreadful, fundamental things to think about . . .and kept us so busy with continuous changes and 'crises' and so fascinated . . . by the machinations of the 'national enemies,' without and within, that we had no time to think about these dreadful things that were growing, little by little, all around us. . .
“Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained or, on occasion, 'regretted,' that unless one understood what the whole thing was in principle, what all these 'little measures'. . . must some day lead to, one no more saw it developing from day to day than a farmer in his field sees the corn growing. . . .Each act. . . (was) worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join you in resisting somehow.” Milton Mayer, “They Thought They Were Free”
Under the radar of President Obama’s national speech before a joint session of congress about a health care plan that will be anything but a solution to providing universal health care for all of us, the leadership of the Jewish community, even representing the United States Branch of the World Zionist Organization (WZO), took airline flights into Washington for a day of lobbying, pimping, shilling for United States government actions against Iran.

The National Jewish Leadership Advocacy Day on Iran was coordinated by the National Inter-Agency Task Force on Iran, which includes the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, United Jewish Communities, JCSJ: Advocates on behalf of Jewish in Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States & Eurasia, and their constituent organizations.
Not to be sidetracked by such mundane matters as the President’s razzle-dazzle about health care for all of us and just at the time that health care was the focus of the media conglomerates, the leadership of the Jewish community had other more important matters to discuss with members of Congress and the State Department that needed their attention.
Their action was taken just in case the United States government’s killing of more than a million civilians during the sanctions, invasions and occupations of Iraq, Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan; the United States government’s support of the Zionist led Israeli state’s invasion, occupation and absorption of the Palestine beyond internationally recognized borders; and the wounding and killing of more than 40,000 Americans in the process are not enough.
In spite of the fact that Iran’s development of nuclear power for peaceful uses has been verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), “the Jewish organizations are encouraging the United States to take a series of steps to further pressure Iran to end its nuclear program, including:
1) A concerted international effort, using a mix of strong diplomatic and economic measures, to persuade Tehran to comply with U.N. Security Council resolutions on its nuclear program.
2) The adoption of new legislation by Congress – including the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act (IRPSA), the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act and other related bills – that will give the U.S. additional tools to pressure Iran.
3) To encourage the State Department and the White House to take full advantage of sanctions and other measures and to urge other nations to follow suit.”
The full court press of the leadership of the Jewish community for the United States government’s action against Iran was further enhanced by octogenarian Robert M. Morganthau’s Op Ed in the Wall Street Journal that was adapted from his speech in Washington during the fly-in of the Jewish leadership.
According to Morgenthau, who is the District Attorney for the borough of Manhattan in New York City, there is a coalition of Venezuela and Iran that poses a threat to the United States.

The title of the piece is: "The Emerging Axis of Iran and Venezuela." In response to the article, Robert Dreyfuss of The Nation writes, “It's both creepy and conspiratorial, with almost no facts, and full of rhetoric and dark insinuations. He makes this shocking accusation:
"My office has been told that that over the past three years a number of Iranian-owned and controlled factories have sprung up in remote and undeveloped parts of Venezuela--ideal locations for the illicit production of weapons."
Get that? "My office has been told." By whom? What, exactly, did they say? Are they making weapons--or not? In the very next sentence, Morgenthau backpedals, sort of:
"Evidence of the type of activity conducted inside the factories is limited. But we should be concerned."
After blathering about smuggling, narco-trafficking, and Iranian financial dealings -- none of which has anything at all to do his big finale, even if true -- Morgenthau warns darkly:
"That means two of the world's most dangerous regimes, the self-described 'axis of unity,' will be acting together in our backyard on the development of nuclear and missile technology."
And:
"The Iranian nuclear and long-range missile threats, and creeping Iranian influence in the Western Hemisphere, cannot be overlooked."
