"Does Janeane Garofalo Hate Obama Because He's Black?"

June 26th, 2010

In a recent interview with Punchline Magazine, feminist funny girl Janeane Garofalo was asked what her take on the BP oil spill was. Her answer was shocking. After characterizing BP as a “typical corporate greed, profit motive, cutting corners; treating workers and people and the environment like disposable lighters,” she made this astonishing bigoted comment about our beloved leader:

“I also am disgusted that the Obama administration kept all the corrupt policies of the Bush administration in place, and helped feed into this tragedy. I don’t even understand it – I don’t understand how the Obama administration kept the same people in the management service in place, and kept ignoring the safety warnings.

They had Ken Salazar as the Secretary of the Interior, who’s corrupt. It just makes no sense. I have no idea why the Obama administration has been as heartbreakingly disappointing as it has. So yeah, I’m just disgusted. Other than that, I don’t know what else to say. I’m sure this type of thing will continue to go on and on and on.”

The interviewer, Emma Kat Richardson, went on to comment that, “I think even a week before the spill happened, Obama was talking about expanding offshore drilling,” to which Garofalo replied with:

”Oh yeah, definitely, definitely. But at midnight, when Bush left office – literally, on the night they left – they signed into law all kinds of corporate-friendly things. I don’t get it. You know, the corporation will always dominate; it’s naive to think differently. But I don’t know what it’s gonna take for the political realm to stop allowing the corporate realm to be so blatantly corrupted. It’ll probably never end, because it’s probably just the way it is. I assume that’s just the way it’s always been, and will always be – it just doesn’t get exposed until there’s a tragedy.”

Did you catch that? My God, she practically called Obama the N-word. Does she not realize that any constructive criticism of Obama actually reveals an intense hatred of our first black President simply because of the color of his skin?

I seem to recall writing those last two sentences before. Oh, yeah…I remember now. I pretty much made the same analysis about Anti-Defamation League Director Abe Foxman back in March, when he hypocritically did an about face on Obama and criticized him for opposing illegal housing construction in East Jerusalem. His exact words were:

“We are shocked and stunned at the Administration’s tone and public dressing down of Israel. We cannot remember an instance when such harsh language was directed at a friend and ally of the United States.”

Just days earlier, Foxman came out with a scathing report against Patriots and Tea Party activists entitled “Rage Grows in America” which states:

“Since the election of Barack Obama as president, a current of anti-government hostility has swept across the United States, creating a climate of fervor and activism with manifestations ranging from incivility in public forums to acts of intimidation and violence.”

Hypocrisy? I would say so. First dishonest Abe…and now Janeane Garofalo?

Need I remind you of the Keith Olberman interview back in April of 2009, when Garofalo characterized Tea Party activists and Town Hall protestors as racist rednecks who hate black people. Here’s what she said:

“You know, there's nothing more interesting than seeing a bunch of racists become confused and angry at a speech they're not quite certain what he's saying. It sounds right and then it doesn't make sense. Which, let's be very honest about what this is about. It's not about bashing Democrats, it's not about taxes, they have no idea what the Boston tea party was about, they don't know their history at all. This is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. And there is no way around that.”

Wow, what a piece of work. Perhaps Garofalo is just (to use her own words) “confused and angry.” Maybe she really isn’t concerned about the BP oil spill. Maybe “This is about hating a black man in the White House.” Of course you and I know that’s ridiculous, but its just as ridiculous for her to make such generalizations about Tea Partiers and other patriot groups that are just as concerned about Obama’s handling of the oil spill as they are his handling of the economy.

Janeane's recent departure isn't the first sign that Hollywood personalities are starting to jump ship off the Obama bandwagon.

Spike Lee once predicted that Obama's election would set off a “seismic change in the universe". But even he too has expressed disappointment in Obama’s response to the BP oil spill when he told CNN that Obama should "One time, go off! If there's any one time to go off, this is it, because this is a disaster."

In February, actor Matt Damon, a one time fanatical Obama supporter and 2008 Obama campaigner told the New York Daily News,"I'm disappointed in the health care plan and in the troop buildup in Afghanistan. Everyone feels a little let down because, on some level, people expected all their problems to go away."

Let’s all quit this petty bickering and start facing the facts: Our nation is in free-fall collapse, and the very people that have designed this disaster are counting on Janeanne Garofalo and others of her ilk to keep us all divided along racial and party lines.

Wake up, Janeane. This isn’t about Democrats Vs. Republicans. This is America Vs. the special interests and foreign bankers who have compromised every US President since JFK.
