Our Ruling Class of Crazy--Be Afraid, Be VERY Afraid

August 24th, 2011

Brennan Browne

There has always existed a peculiar niche of human beings within our political system who have seemingly defied the odds and risen to positions of incredible power and influence despite their obvious lack of common sense, basic intelligence and grasp of reality. These individuals were once a minority and provided--a then sane nation--with

the same dubious comic relief and/or horror that one must endure during family events with a loony relative that everyone dreads, but politely humors.

There have, to our great shame, been times in our history when we stood back and allowed the crazed relative free rein in attempting to drag us into their skewed world.

Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy was one such outstanding example, as he led America into his own fanatical romp through the dark corridors of a landscape riddled with Reds beneath every rock. Our government allowed a sick, paranoid-delusional man with Napoleonic tendencies to terrorize and destroy livelihoods and reputations, with the same zeal as a ravenous carpenter ant consumes wood.

Our current political climate has brought us full circle--with a twist. We are now experiencing McCarthyism on steroids.

It must be acknowledged that mental illness is a disease and people who are unfortunate enough to be plagued with such conditions need all the help and understanding they can get. These individuals deserve quality treatment and a generous amount of compassion.
However, with that said, many 'functionally insane' people are currently flooding the field of politics which, by its nature, bestows an inordinate amount of power upon an individual. A very good reason irrational thinkers are drawn to the profession. Tragically for the public, money and power without benefit of a balanced mind, produces tyrants.

Currently, each new day seems to reveal an expanding crop of mentally disturbed hayseeds, pontificating on subjects which they know nothing about and, worse yet, which employ blatant, lying, hysteria to get their extremist messages out to the masses.

These cracked rubes, expounding upon their divine relationship with God while following Gordon Gekko's code of "greed is good," butchering U.S. history, pathetically ignorant of constitutional law, anti-science, anti-civil liberties and pro-environmental rape, all take astounding pride in their bloviating arrogance and stupidity.

Some declare themselves "chosen" by God for public service to lead the people out of sin--with the one and only way to redemption being their particular brand of religion. They seek a glorious mix of theocratic and corporate rule. Ironically, their closest twins--the Taliban--also display rabid hate toward all those not in agreement with their religious dictates and political ideologies.

We are being inundated with a slew of lunatics, entrenched in pseudo-godliness, which are prime examples of severely unstable, delusional, narcissism. Their prolific and dangerous my-way-or-the-highway fascist proselytizing continues unabated, with no one challenging their perverted interpretations of reality.

If one is going to call themselves a 'spokesperson' for God, and be believed, then certain basic principles apply. Number one among them is to help the less fortunate--not vilify those devoted to elevating the poor as "evil" socialists. Whether a believer or an atheist, this standard of conduct is universally accepted as the hallmark of a civilized society.

Mother Teresa, who took a vow of poverty and devoted herself to the needy, did not profess "Christianity" while simultaneously making sure that all but the richest and most powerful, were thrown under the bus as road kill.

The ad nauseam level of hypocrisy vomited forth from the mouths of these godless phonies, presents a lesson in restraint for the rest of us; as their outrageous annihilation of truth and mocking contempt for those suffering, escalates, leaving broken bodies and crushed spirits in its wake, it's hard not to want to pummel some sense into these vicious idiots.

We have all had personal experiences with imbeciles. People so dim-witted that it is indeed wondrous that they survived to adulthood. Most are, by and large, powerless, and so remain relatively benign in the scheme of things. However, we are presently entering a new realm of poisonous synergism. A double whammy. A ruling class of the profoundly moronic AND gleefully cruel. A combination which is already proving to be catastrophic for all those who find themselves under their thumbs. As this country is driven deeper into destruction and despair by the sickness and stupidity of its leadership, we should all be VERY AFRAID.

  • Feminism was once a revolutionary force, a creed born out of struggle, resilience, and the dream of a world much different from what we had been given. It was born from the pain of millions of women working, poor, Black, Indigenous, women of color who refused to take the world as it was. And yet, today, feminism is an idea manipulated, diluted, commodified, and often controlled by those very forces that it initially came into being to dismantle from the military-industrial complex to corporate media giants; feminism today hardly resembles its initial mission of radical social transformation. This has happened because things are ingrained in how our media landscape rolls along. We hardly notice how forces remake feminist discourse into more palatable, consumer-friendly, and politically neutral forms. The corporations that run the media, the intelligence agencies that shape public opinion, and the political powers that remain in control have combined a grand symphony of influence that has redefined feminism, replacing its radical edges with a glittering but hollow vision of empowerment. It is time to reclaim the radical roots of feminism to inspire a new generation of activists to fight for real change.
