There is no difference between today and tomorrow

(12/31, Washington,DC) New Years is actually more of a con than Christmas. The real meaning of Christmas, the celebration of the birth of the prince of peace, is overwhelmed by the festival of retail madness required to support so many retail concerns. New Years somehow represents a real break between one chronological period and another. (Image: nImAdestiny)

Seriously, what difference does a day make, particularly this year.

Tomorrow, we will have the very same concerns as today. The effectiveness of addressing those concerns has nothing to do with the progression of the calendar. In essence, New Years is to the news media and liquor sales as Christmas is to retail.

The event does provide to reflect on how little progress is being made in the following areas:

  • Planning the containment and mitigation of climate change;
  • Ending the criminal military aggression around the world that passes itself off as United States foreign policy;
  • Redirecting wasted resources on war and bloated military budgets to critical social needs;
  • Addressing the racial divide, particularly in the form of "007" licenses to kill handed out to local police and virulent bigotry on immigration issues;
  • Providing a decent and useful K-12, college, and/or trade education to all; and
  • Admitting that the jobs situation in this country is simply atrocious; and,
  • Ending the cover up of real unemployment and other pressing problems by bogus, rigged government and industry statistics.

How will a change in date and year influence any of these long term concerns or they cycle of resolution or failure.

All this nonsense about this year versus next is just a revenue enhancing opportunity for the media.

As for the bacchanal of alcohol abuse, there are opportunities for real change on a personal level -- fatal accidents and serious injuries; assaults that would have otherwise never occurred

Remember what experienced partiers call New Years: Amateur Night.

Stay safe and reality based.
