Fascist Republican Senators Threaten Iran

March 12th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Lunatics infesting Washington make their own rules - made up to suit their warped objectives. On March 9, 47 fascist Republican senators addressed "An Open Letter to the Leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

They acted recklessly like Netanyahu. The intervened directly into (multi-nation) P5+1 talks.

They warned any deal Obama negotiates without legislative approval may be reversed by the next president "with a stroke of a pen."

Washington's hate-mongering crowd wants possible rapprochement with Iran sabotaged. They want permanent wars, not peace. They want Israel's reckless agenda served.

Joe Biden said he couldn't "recall another instance in which senators wrote directly to advise another country - much less a longtime foreign adversary - that the president does not have the constitutional authority to reach a meaningful understanding with them."

"The decision to undercut our president and circumvent our constitutional system offends me as a matter of principle."

Virtually everything done by both parties in Washington constitutes an affront to rule of law principles and democratic values. Biden is as tainted as other lunatics making policy.

Republican senators' letter followed John Kerry saying he'll return to Geneva Sunday to continue working for a framework agreement by end of March - ahead of pursuing an end of June final deal.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif reacted angrily to Republican arrogance, saying:

"In our view, this letter has no legal value and is mostly a propaganda ploy."

"It is very interesting that while negotiations are still in progress and while no agreement has been reached, some political pressure groups are so afraid even of the prospect of an agreement that they resort to unconventional methods, unprecedented in diplomatic history."

"This indicates that like Netanyahu, who considers peace as an existential threat, some are opposed to any agreement, regardless of its content."

They want a near state of war between America and Iran. They fear nothing about its nuclear program. No existential threat exists.

Iran's independence is targeted. They want US-controlled puppet governance replacing it.

They want America grabbing its rich oil and gas reserves. They want an Israeli rival removed.

Zarif said "the world is not the United States, and the conduct of inter-state relations is governed by international law, and not by US domestic law."

US senators "may not fully understand that in international law, governments represent the entirety of their respective states, are responsible for the conduct of foreign affairs, are required to fulfill the obligations they undertake with other states and may not invoke their internal law as justification for failure to perform their international obligations."

Administration change in America "does not relieve (new executive leadership) from international obligations undertaken by its predecessor in a possible agreement about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program."

“I wish to enlighten (US senators) that if the next administration revokes any agreement with 'the stroke of a pen,' as they boast, it will have simply committed a blatant violation of international law."

If P5+1 talks conclude successfully, i'll mean all five permanent Security Council members plus Germany endorse it.

So will the great majority of world nations. International law prohibits individual countries from modifying, altering or annulling multi-national deals reached.

P5+1 talks aim for executive agreement - not a treaty involving so-called senatorial advise and consent.

Presidents on their own initiate them. Responsible senators know they have no right to intervene.

Iran negotiated with P5+1 countries in good faith, Zarif stressed. It "has the political will to reach an agreement…"

It's "imperative for our counterparts to prove similar good faith and political will to make an agreement possible," he added.

Fascist anti-Iranian hate-mongering senators threw down the gauntlet. They want any deal Obama may make sabotaged.

It's unclear who wrote the letter. It's very clear who supports it - Israel, its US lobby, other pro-Israeli groups, Washington's lunatic fringe, its neocon war-mongering crowd, go-along presstitutes, and right-wing think tanks.

They want new leadership in Iran they control. They want fascist rule restored.

They want Iranian resources plundered, its people exploited, a US client state replacing Tehran's independence.

They want what Iranians won't tolerate - nor should freedom-loving people anywhere else in the world!
