World No Safer Following Iran Nuclear Deal

January 19th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Longstanding US imperial policy fosters endless wars, violence and chaos, an agenda threatening world peace and stability, risking WW III.

Iran’s nuclear deal changed nothing. As long as America targets all independent countries for regime change, its endless wars of aggression will continue.

Direct and proxy US conflicts rage in multiple theaters. New ones are planned. More than ever before in world history, humanity’s survival is up for grabs.

Hawkish US policy risks the unthinkable. Nuclear war if launched may kill us all. New York Times editors have it backwards, headlining “A Safer World, Thanks to the Iran Deal” - ignoring how Washington threatens humanity.

The whole world knows Iran’s nuclear program was and remains entirely peaceful, with no military component. Claiming the JCPOA “curb(ed) or eliminate(d) (its) most dangerous elements” ignores hard truths.

Tehran doesn’t and never had a path to the bomb. Targeting its nuclear and other activities reflect revenge for its 1979 revolution, replacing US-supported fascist dictatorship with the sovereign independent Islamic Republic.

Times editors ludicrously praised Obama’s “visionary determination to pursue a negotiated solution to (a nonexistent) nuclear threat.”

Despite international sanctions now lifted, other illegitimate US ones remain in force, new ones imposed on Sunday - entirely for political reasons.

America’s intentions toward Iran remain implacably hostile. Nothing in prospect suggests normalization.

Times editors irresponsibly bash Iran. Claiming it didn’t “give up (its) nuclear weapons for nothing” continues the Big Lie about ever having or wanting them.

No evidence suggests either. Plenty shows US hostility toward the Islamic Republic persists, supported by The Times and other major media scoundrels.

A Final Comment

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari accused Washington of hypocrisy and double standards - saying newly imposed “US sanctions against Iran’s ballistic missile program (have) no legal or moral legitimacy.”

“America sells tens of billions of dollars of weaponry each year to countries in the region. (They’re) used (to commit) war crimes against Palestinian, Lebanese and most recently Yemeni citizens.”

Ansari stressed Tehran will continue developing its missile capabilities. It won’t negotiate with Washington on other issues.

President Hassan Rohani said as Washington continues “pursuing its hostile policies and illegal meddling…(Iranian) armed forces need to quickly and significantly increase their missile capability.”

America represents the greatest threat to world peace, stability and security - compelling nations like Iran to enhance their self-defense capabilities.
