Bernieism Pure Fantasy All Along

July 26th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Anyone examining his deplorable 30-year public service record knew there was no there there, same old, same old, masquerading as revolutionary populism, a thinly veiled facade concealing support for dirty business as usual.

It shouldn’t need explaining, yet too few people understand. America is more autocracy than democracy, more fascist than fair, more police state than populist, more ruthless over a longer duration than any regime in history - run exclusively of, by and for its privileged class. Its political process is too debauched to fix. Tinkering around the edges won’t change things. Conditions worsen each electoral cycle instead of improving - each new administration and Congress more sinister than earlier ones.

No one becomes duopoly power presidential material without being bought over too many times to count. Genuine populists have no chance whatever.

Sanders is a longstanding walking, talking conflict of interest, a duplicitous self-serving con man, voting 98% of the time with corrupted Democrat colleagues.

Consistently he preaches to the gallery pontifically, saying what loyalists want to hear, brainwashing them to believe he’s genuine, then betraying them time and again.

“Feel the Bern” was phony baloney hyperbole all along, PR rubbish, BernOut in the end - lofty rhetoric without followthrough.

“If a financial institution is too big to fail, it is too big to exist,” said Sanders. He did nothing in Congress to change things.

“Let us wage a moral and political war against the billionaires and corporate leaders, on Wall Street and elsewhere, whose policies and greed are destroying the middle class of America.”

Sanders was solely on the front lines of empty rhetoric, AWOL working for policy changes.

“The goal of real healthcare reform must be high quality, universal coverage in a cost effective way.”

He was the only senator rhetorically for universal healthcare - then disgracefully voted for Obamacare.

His “no” vote would have killed an anti-populist rationing scheme benefitting insurers, drug companies and large hospital chains, providing healthcare on the ability to pay, ignoring Martin Luther King saying “(o)f all the forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane.”

He denounced corporate personhood yet did nothing to repeal it. He cited FDR, saying nations are judged by how they treat their least advantaged, yet he voted for policies harming their interests.

He railed against Hillary on the stump, calling her unqualified to serve - then endorsed her on national television, saying he’ll do everything he can “to make certain she will be the next president of the United States.”

He’s no socialist, no populist, no revolutionary, no peace advocate, no friend of ordinary Americans. Endorsing Clinton showed support for pure evil, permanent wars and neoliberal harshness, selling out to wealth, power and privilege, betraying loyal supporters disgracefully.

He’s part of the dirty system he rhetorically opposes. Honor, integrity and virtue aren’t his long suits. He’s no man of the people - irreparably tainted by allying with the devil.

  • Feminism was once a revolutionary force, a creed born out of struggle, resilience, and the dream of a world much different from what we had been given. It was born from the pain of millions of women working, poor, Black, Indigenous, women of color who refused to take the world as it was. And yet, today, feminism is an idea manipulated, diluted, commodified, and often controlled by those very forces that it initially came into being to dismantle from the military-industrial complex to corporate media giants; feminism today hardly resembles its initial mission of radical social transformation. This has happened because things are ingrained in how our media landscape rolls along. We hardly notice how forces remake feminist discourse into more palatable, consumer-friendly, and politically neutral forms. The corporations that run the media, the intelligence agencies that shape public opinion, and the political powers that remain in control have combined a grand symphony of influence that has redefined feminism, replacing its radical edges with a glittering but hollow vision of empowerment. It is time to reclaim the radical roots of feminism to inspire a new generation of activists to fight for real change.
