Russia’s Lavrov Blasts West

July 29th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Noted for his unmatched world-class diplomacy and seemingly infinite patience in dealing with intractable issues, Lavrov was uncharacteristically blunt in calling the West (meaning America mostly) “a bull in a china shop.”

Perhaps venting frustration over dealing with Washington and its European colonies in trying to resolve major geopolitical issues, he called what’s happening in the Middle East and North Africa “the direct result of a very incompetent and unprofessional attitude to the situation.”

US-led NATO wants unchallenged “dominance,” running amuck in trying to achieve it, the scourge of Western imperialism threatening everyone.

“In Iraq, an overthrow of the regime was announced under a false pretext,” said Lavrov. Chaotic violence engulfs the nation, hundreds killed weekly.

US-led Western nations say “let’s resolve the problem of Libya, Syria and Iraq, organize elections and eradicate terrorism.”

“They say first it is necessary to remove Assad and then we’ll struggle against terrorism. We say: Okay, we’ll urgently organize elections in Syria and Assad will be removed by way of elections. And who will guarantee that Syria won’t repeat the Libya scenario?”

Ousting Gaddafi ravaged and destroyed Africa’s most developed country, transforming it into a violent, chaotic dystopian wasteland.

Islam, Christianity and Judaism coexisted in the Middle East for millennia. Imperial lawlessness “threatens to destroy the ethno-confessional balance which has been preserved despite deadly wars.”

“If we witness the disruption of this balance in our epoch, it would be a disgrace for all of us all.” Numbers of Christians in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere in the region “dropped significantly.”

“This tendency should be stopped. Together with our colleagues, including from the Vatican, we are holding several events to draw attention to inadmissibility of Christianophobia.”

NATO seeks enlargement to contain, marginalize, weaken and isolate Russia. “(S)ecurity cannot be ensured at the expense of others,” Lavrov explained.

Russia bashing rages, propaganda more hostile than during Cold War years, risking East/Western confrontation, perhaps unthinkable global war.

Lavrov barely stopped short of calling US-dominated NATO the greatest threat to world peace. Instead of fostering it, alliance members wage endless wars on humanity, risking possible nuclear annihilation.
