The NYT Big Lie About Nonexistent Russian Aggression in Ukraine Revisited

August 22nd, 2016

Stephen Lendman

My edited and contributed to book, titled Flashpoint in Ukraine: How the US Drive for Hegemony Risks WW III explains America’s color revolution, replacing Ukrainian sovereign independence with illegitimate, Nazi-infested putschist rule, and much more.

It includes a wealth of invaluable information media scoundrels like The Times suppress. Distinguished contributors make the book special, an honor for me to be in the same volume with them.

After weeks of US-orchestrated violence, democracy in Ukraine succumbed in mid-February 2014. The scourge of fascism returned to central Europe for the first time since WW II.

Crimea and Donbass are bright spots, their residents rejecting tyranny for democratic governance.

Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to return to Russia, correcting an historic mistake, Putin and Russian parliamentarians obliging them. No illegitimate annexation occurred. Self-determination is an international law affirmed universal right.

Donbass freedom fighters broke away from Kiev putschists, refusing to be part of their illegitimate regime.

In their latest anti-Putin broadside, Times editors repeated the tiresome litany of lies they’ve published since Ukrainian democracy died, now adding new outrageous accusations not fit to print - part of their war on truth, Russia and Vladimir Putin their prime targets.

Claims about “Russian aggression” were and continue to be fabricated. Putin shows incredible patience to a fault in dealing with his lawless neighbor, a regional proxy for US aggressive imperial policy.

Times editors lied suggesting he “may be preparing for yet another military confrontation with…Kiev.” None occurred earlier. No evidence indicates anything planned.

A barrage of anti-Putin ad hominems and misstatements followed, claiming “his endless capacity for intimidation and unpredictability.” False!

“(I)t’s possible (he’s) manufacturing the threat of a crisis to strengthen his diplomatic hand and extricate Russia from economic sanctions…” False!

It’s “essential…to keep the sanctions in place…until he has helped bring peace to Ukraine.”

Fact: US and EU sanctions are illegal. Security Council members alone may impose them, not individual countries unilaterally, others heavily pressured to go along despite harming their own interests.

Fact: Putin alone among world leaders continues working tirelessly for peace in Ukraine and Syria. US obstructionism prevents it in both countries.

Times editors practically accused him of lying about Russian security services foiling a Ukrainian sabotage plot in Crimea, a scheme likely hatched in and orchestrated by Washington.

They falsely claimed he mobilized large troop deployments along Ukraine’s border, suggesting his possible intention to seize Ukrainian territory. No credible evidence indicates anything of the sort.

Russia’s Defense Ministry responded to US-led NATO deploying increasing number of combat troops near Russia’s borders by creating three new divisions for self-defense.

Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu called initiative “a critical task (to defend) the western theater” because of the threat to Russia’s national security posed by US-dominated NATO.

Times editors: Putin “revels in unpredictability. He enjoys keeping his adversaries on edge. (He’s) ratcheting up tensions, keeping Ukraine off balance and even raising the threat of a wider war to achieve (his) economic and political goals.”

Fact: It takes naivety or ignorance to believe any of the above rubbish.

Times editors: Peace in Ukraine “foundered largely because of Russia and its separatist allies.”

Fact: US obstructionism and Kiev’s puppet regime (taking orders from Washington) bear full responsibility.

Times editors support maintaining illegal sanctions so “Putin…cannot be rewarded for his aggression.”

They and likeminded media scoundrels call America’s rape and destruction of one country after another humanitarian intervention. Putin’s exemplary efforts for conflict resolution are called belligerence.

The simplest way to stay uninformed and misled is by following media like The Times, along with its print and electronic counterparts - merchants of misinformation and Big Lies.
