Bernie Sanders on Israel and Iran

September 27th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

He’s a longstanding con man. His deplorable voting record belies his lofty rhetoric, consistently supporting undemocratic Dem party politics.

His support for war goddess/racketeer Hillary after she virtually stole her nomination alone exposed his duplicity - saying one thing, doing another, like most everyone else in Washington, a rogue’s gallery of miscreants. He defended the undemocratic Dem party platform, supporting dirty business as usual.

He supports America’s imperial agenda, its phony war on terror, raping and destroying nations. He wrongfully blames Hamas for Israeli high crimes.

He voted for Senate legislation, calling on the UN to rescind the Goldstone report - exposing Israel’s December 2008-January 2009 naked aggression on Gaza.

During an earlier town hall meeting, he defended Israel’s summer 2014 war on Gaza, telling a Palestinian supporter to shut up.

He opposes Palestinian statehood based on pre-June 1967 borders - 22% of historic Palestine. He shamefully claims Israel defends freedom against religious fundamentalism. It’s headquartered in Tel Aviv.

He’s hostile to Iran. On his web site, he urged Washington and the international community to “hold Iran accountable for its nuclear program and prevent it from increasing in scope.”

It’s program has always been peaceful with no military component. Yet he called for “clearly defined restrictions verified by international observers,” the IAEA’s mandate, no one else’s.

He’s silent about Israel being nuclear armed and dangerous, maintaining stockpiles of illegal chemical and biological weapons, using banned weapons against Gazans - while saying “(i)t is imperative that Iran not get a nuclear weapon” it’s fundamentally against, wanting the region free from this menace.

Like nearly all Western politicians, especially US ones, Sanders is a habitual liar, falsely claiming support for reducing US military aid to Israel, under vaguely described conditions, including an unattainable goal - “bring(ing) people together, not just result in an arms war in” the region.

He opposes BDS activism, an essential initiative, the most effective way to hold Israel accountable. He denounced the UN for alleged anti-Israeli bias. With rare exceptions, it’s criticism falls woefully short.

He criticized Iranian “foreign policy,” meaning its involvement in combating US-supported terrorism in Syria, instead of praising its responsible actions.

He’s America’s most popular con man, his soul for sale at the right price.

Hypocrisy and moral cowardice define his deplorable political record - a progressive in name only, not the real thing.
