In struggle with the American mind

October 2nd, 2010

by William Blum

America means well; our motives are noble...

Since The Great Flood hit Pakistan in July

  • many millions have been displaced, evacuated, stranded or lost their homes; numerous roads, schools and health clinics destroyed
  • hundreds of villages washed away
  • millions of livestock have perished; for the rural poor something akin to a Western stock market crash that wipes out years of savings
  • countless farms decimated, including critical crops like corn; officials say the damage is in the hundreds of millions of dollars and it does not appear that Pakistan will recover within the next few years
  • infectious diseases are rising sharply
  • airplanes of the United States of America have flown over Pakistan and dropped bombs on dozens of occasions 1

S 510: The Crisis, the Attack, the Kill

October 1st, 2010

By Rady Ananda

In this three-part series, Food Chain Radio host Michael Olson interviews key people in the food freedom movement. From gun-blazing bureaucrats who attack small food producers to legislation like S 510 which threatens to hyper-regulate whole food operators out of business, Olson questions guests about government motives, who's behind the legislation, and where the crisis really lies.

Olson notes that the U.S. "has a serious food safety crisis, and so its agents, with guns drawn and warrants in hand, are breaking down the doors of the little people who sell food to their neighbors. But wait... which is in crisis: local food or industrial food?"

Indigenous resistance: from Colombia to Palestine

October 1st, 2010

By Anna Baltzer

"They only see our water, our land, our trees. They don't care about us. They want the land -- without the people on it."

These words are not of a Palestinian farmer but of Justo Conda, governor of Lopez Adentro Indigenous Reserve in southwestern Colombia, whose community was repeatedly threatened with displacement under former president Alvaro Uribe Velez. Uribe, recently appointed by the United Nations to investigate Israel's fatal attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, has a notoriously horrific track record on human rights. Less explored are the clear parallels between his government's mistreatment of indigenous peoples of Colombia and Israel's abuses of the indigenous people of Palestine.

Deceptions a brilliant clarion to save the Internet

September 30th, 2010

By Rady Ananda

In Deceptions, filmmaker Chris Pratt briefly covers 911, but then explores Bush-Obama as puppets, and their masters, the banksters. He looks deeply at world government, and New World Order plans to shut down the last venue of free speech that remains: the Internet.

"I feel very strongly that the world needs to see, to consider, to be aware that there are some very dark and sinister forces at play shaping what we think is an independent opinion," he told me via email.

AMERICA'S REAL ANTI-GOVERNMENT THREAT

September 30th, 2010

By Gordon Duff

FIND OUT WHO IS FINANCING AMERICA'S EXTREMIST "PATRIOTIC REVOLT?"

"However, an investigation of site ownership and client lists funding the "Patriotic Revolt" were not what we expected. The "patriots" that were going to replace the armed militia's of the 1990's were actually the Republican Party, their phony "think tanks" and the largest multi-national corporations in the world, representing defense, oil, insurance, big pharma, big tobacco and "clean coal," a veritable "who's who" of world class criminals."

Zombie World

September 30th, 2010

By Slushpup

With all the latest rage with Zombies, I thought I would like to throw my two cents in to the pot. We are inundated with movies, video games, books all about the so called scary world of the mindless undead that have an unquenchable hunger to feast upon human flesh. Some of the more familiar names at the movies are Resident Evil, Night of the living Dead, Diary of the Dead, and the more lighter side like Shaun of the Dead. Also in book stores around the world there are New York best sellers such as Zombie survival guide, and World War Z. Who would have ever thought that a book on Zombies would have made a best seller list? Well not me. Lastly at every video game store the shelves are filled with games that you can blast, hack, blow up, destroy any number of Zombies. Some of the titles are Left for dead, and also like the movie titles, Resident evil, Dawn of the dead to name just a few.

So what is our obsession with this creature of horror and evil anyway?

Palestinian Authority Recommends Whitewashing Gaza War Crimes

September 30th, 2010

Stephen Lendman

Who do they serve anyway? It's clear from the sham peace talks and a new development. The Mahmoud Abbas-controlled Palestinian Authority (PA) wants Israel absolved of accountability for Cast Lead crimes of war and against humanity. No matter that conclusive evidence exposed them, the result of the IDF's 23-day day rampage, killing over 1,400, injuring over 5,000, many severely, and practically leveling wide areas of Gaza, affecting mostly civilian and non-military related targets.

Besides other investigations, two UN Human Rights Council (HRC) ones unequivocally condemned Israel's lawlessness, each demanding accountability.

On September 21, the HRC's independent fact finding Committee issued a stinging indictment, among other conclusions, saying:

Politically Active Americans Facing Searches and Surveillance

September 30th, 2010

Trend of Activist Searches Began Under Bush, Continues Under Obama

Series of Inspector General Reports Shows FBI Violating Constitutional Rights of American Peace Activists While Raids Occur in Illinois and Minneapolis

Earlier this week the FBI raided six homes of eight peace activists in Minneapolis and Chicago as well as a Minneapolis office of an antiwar group. Agents kicked down doors of homes with guns drawn, smashed furniture, and seized computers, documents, phones, and other materials without making any arrests. These groups do not use guns and bombs. They are not terrorists. Their "weapons" are leaflets, newsletters, and nonviolent demonstrations.

IRS To Investigate Rove’s American Crossroads and Other Corporate Front Groups

September 30th, 2010

Kevin Zeese

Contributors to These Groups Beware – You May Not Be Anonymous for Long

Conscious Citizens Need to Continue to Push Back Against Concentrated Corporate Power

A big victory yesterday for democracy as the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Max Baucus, called for an investigation of corporate front groups and asked the Internal Revenue Service to conduct a full investigation not only of Karl Rove’s American Crossroads but all groups improperly using tax-exempt status to manipulate elections.

Concentrated corporate power is corrupting the first post-Citizens United election, but citizens are responding. Six thousand people wrote Congress as part of our American Crossroads Watch campaign demanding an investigation of Karl Rove’s American Crossroads which is raising tens of millions in secret corporate donations to support big business candidates. Congress heard us and Sen. Baucus responded. Not only did he demand an investigation, he asked the IRS to identify what tax laws have been broken by these secretive organizations. Here is a full copy of his letter to the IRS.

Turkey and Russia: Cleaning up the mess in the Middle East

September 30th, 2010

Eric Walberg

The new Ottomans and the new Byzantines are poised for an intercept as the US stumbles in the current Great Game.

The neocon plan to transform the Middle East and Central Asia into a pliant client of the US empire and its only-democracy-in-the-Middle-East is now facing a very different playing field. Not only are the wars against the Palestinians, Afghans and Iraqis floundering, but they have set in motion unforeseen moves by all the regional players.
