Turkey’s New Relationship with Russia — and Assad

August 30th, 2016

Eric Zuesse

Until the July 15th U.S.-backed (or so the Turkish government alleges) coup-attempt to overthrow Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan, Erdogan was trying to overthrow Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, whom the U.S. regime likewise wants to overthrow.

However, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin saved Erdogan’s Presidency, and probably Erdogan’s life, by contacting him hours prior to the pending coup and thus enabled him to plan and prepare so as to overcome the attempt, and crush

Putin wouldn’t have known ahead-of-time about the coup-plan unless Russian intelligence had provided to him intelligence that it was coming. This intelligence might have included information about whom the source of it was. If Putin had intelligence regarding that matter, then he presumably shared it with Erdogan at that time — prior to the coup.

The Financial Times: Megaphone for Mass Murder

August 30th, 2016

James Petras

Introduction

The Financial Times editorial page carries a logo that proclaims: “Without fear and without favour”. Indeed the editors have shown no fear when it comes to. . . fabricating lies, promoting imperial wars decimating countries and impoverishing millions, whether in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and now Venezuela. The fearless “Lies of Our Times” have been at the forefront forging pretexts for inciting imperial armies to crush independent governments. Despite its pretentious scribblers and prestigious claims, the FT is seen by the Anglo-American financial class as a belligerent purveyor of militarist policies designed for the most retrograde sectors of the ruling elite.

What is most striking about the FT fearless fabrications on behalf of imperial militarism is how often their political and economic prognostications have been incompetent and flat out wrong.

Ernst Nolte-The Last German

August 30th, 2016

An Obituary by Gilad Atzmon

In his book Heidegger and the Jews, the French philosopher François Léotard contends that history may promise to narrate the past, but what it does instead is conceal our collective shame. American history conceals slavery and genocidal American militancy, Brits attempt to cover their imperial crimes and Jewish history covers the astonishing fact that Jews are uniquely skilled in bringing disasters on themselves. The real historian, according to Léotard, is the one who unveils the shame and exposes it to the light. The real historian is a philosopher - an essentialist who introduces logos to an epoch that initially conveys itself as ‘irrational.’ Like a psychoanalyst, the real historian removes layer after layer of repressed shame aspiring toward reason, coherence and the truth.

Professor Ernst Nolte, who died last Thursday (93), was a real historian. This makes sense, during the Second World War, Nolte was a student of the great Martin Heidegger.

Nolte was probably the first post war academic to break taboos against equating Nazism with Bolshevism. He was immediately denounced by the conventional academic institutions as an ‘apologist for Hitler’ and a ‘Holocaust denier.’ However, most of Nolte's findings that were revolutionary in the 1960-80s are now accepted by most historians as a valid understanding of German National Socialism.

Will U.S. Join China to Build World Landbridge?

August 29th, 2016

Execcutive Intelligence Review

Aug. 21: With the U.S. and European economies near zero-growth and zero productivity growth, there are a hundred proposals "for building new economic infrastructure," nearly all of which ignore science completely.

Really {productive} new economic infrastructure, built in America's last century uniquely under the presidencies of FDR and JFK, was driven by science: the new sciences of atomic fission and particle physics, the challenges of high-voltage electrification and long-distance transmission; those of large-scale water management and transfer; Apollo Project's exploration of the Moon. Computers? They fell out of the scientists' back pockets, as just a means to scientific ends.

Today such truly productive "infrastructure" is built and pursued by China. It has planned to make just such "innovation," and growth, the subject of the G20 summit it is chairing in two weeks. There is no sign that Obama or Europe agree; rather, Obama and Hillary Clinton are on a path of military confrontation with China as well as Russia.

US-Supported Genocide in Yemen

August 29th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Yemen is Obama’s war, naked aggression letting Saudis, other rogue Gulf States and Israel do his dirty work - enforcing blockade to restrict humanitarian aid, flooding the region with weapons and munitions, providing intelligence for terror-bombing, designating targets to be struck, civilians being massacred in much larger numbers than UN reports claim.

War in Yemen is US-sponsored slow-motion genocide, putting most of its population at risk. Yet something this important gets scant scoundrel media coverage, most often none at all - including on the following incidents. RT International reported Saudi warplanes (bought from America, armed with US munitions) terror-bombed a huge pro-Houthi/pro-ousted President Abdullah Saleh rally in Sanaa on Saturday, the nation’s capital.

Unknown numbers of civilians were killed or injured. One participant said “(s)uddenly they started bombing, and the crowd started running…People (were) screaming.”

Earlier in August, Riyadh terror-bombed a school and Doctors Without Borders hospital, causing numerous civilian deaths and injuries.

Another Hillary Big Lie Exposed

August 29th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Already an unindicted perjurer for giving FBI investigators and Congress differing accounts of her personal server use for official State Department business, it’s now known she lied, claiming former Secretary of State Colin Powell recommended she operate this way.

On August 21, Page Six headlined “Colin Powell sets record straight on involvement in (Hillary) email scandal,” saying:

He went public for the first time, “saying her team is falsely trying to blame him.” In testimony before FBI investigators, she said “Powell had advised her to use a personal email account at a private dinner.”

Dalai Lama Hostile to US Imperial War Refugees

August 29th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

The Dalai Lama's longstanding history of CIA collaboration shows he’s no saint-like human rights champion - earlier supporting the agency’s involvement in arming, training, funding and directing Tibetan fighters against China from his exiled Indian residence.

He’s as much a political operative as religious figure, supporting Western imperial interests - a refugee himself, opposed to others forced to flee from US war zones, notably Syria.

In an interview with German newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung, he said “too many” refugees seek asylum in Europe.“Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country. Germany is Germany.” It’s taken in so many refugees, “it becomes difficult” to avoid it.

In 1959, he and thousands of his followers fled to India as refugees. They and their descendants remained for over half a century.

U.S. Invades Syria, And Warns Russia

August 26th, 2016

Eric Zuesse

On Monday, August 22nd, the United States government — which demands the overthrow of the internationally-recognized-as-legal government of Syria — officially announced that America’s military forces in Syria will continue to occupy Syrian land, no matter what the Syrian government says, and will shoot down any Syrian planes that fly over U.S. forces there.

As reported on Monday by Al-Masdar News:

The Pentagon has announced that the USA is ready to down Syrian and Russian planes that they claim threaten American advisers who by international law are illegally operating in northern Syria.

On Friday, Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis claimed that US jets attempted to intercept Syrian planes to protect the American advisers operating illegally with Kurdish forces in Syria after Syrian government jets bombed areas of Hasakah when Kurdish police began an aggression against the National Defense Force.

Turkey’s Duplicity on Syria

August 26th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Turkey is a NATO member, a longtime US ally despite strained relations over the events of July 15, Erdogan an international outlaw, long coveting annexation of northern Syrian territory, along with removal of Assad.

In recent remarks, repeated on Saturday, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim was less than honest. He promised to work with Russia and Iran for conflict resolution in Syria while continuing active support for terrorists representing US interests and Turkey’s. He demands democratically elected/overwhelmingly popular President Assad must go - instead of straightaway as earlier insisted, later during a transitional process.

Latest Hillary Email Scandal Revelation

August 26th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Hillary lied about not having classified State Department material on her personal home server. She lied about turning over to the State Department all emails relating to agency business.

On Monday, the FBI announced discovery of 15,000 previously undisclosed emails. Some are personal. Others show foreign officials sought favors in return for large Clinton Foundation donations.

Judicial Watch (JW) president Tom Fitton asked “(w)hen will State release them? It looks like the State Department is trying to slow-roll the release of the records. They’ve had them for at least a month, and we still don’t know when we’re going to get them.”

A Monday court hearing was held to rule on a release schedule. The same day, JW said it “released 725 pages of new State Department documents…”
