Derailing Amtrak: Tracking the Latest Disaster in the Infrastructure Crisis

May 20th, 2015

by Ellen Brown

The dangerous underfunding of US infrastructure was underscored by a fatal train derailment on May 12th. The tragedy did not deter the House Appropriations Committee from voting to slash Amtrak funding the very next day. There are ways Congress could fund its massive infrastructure bill without raising taxes. But the conservative-controlled Congress seems to have other plans for the nation’s profitable public assets.

The May 12th train derailment near Philadelphia, which killed eight people and hospitalized 200, was the deadliest Amtrak accident in recent history. The train barreled around a dangerous bend at 106 mph, more than double the 50 mph speed limit for the curve.

Declassified DIA Documents Can Bring Down Obama Now

May 20th, 2015

LaRouche PAC

U.S. Embassy at Benghazi, Libya, night of September 11, 2012.

Newly released “Secret” Defense Intelligence Agency documents from 2012 prove that President Obama knew that the September 11, 2012 attack on the US mission in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the murders of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other American officials, was a premeditated attack by a local Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood affiliate. The DIA document, dated September 12, 2012—just hours after the deadly attack—circulated widely among American national security officials, including to the White House, and showed, conclusively, that the assault on the US diplomatic compound and CIA annex was known to have been an Al Qaeda operation.

As the result of the May 18 release of that DIA document and over 100 pages of Defense Department and State Department “Secret” documents, the evidence is now conclusive: President Barack Obama willfully lied to the American people and to the US Congress, to cover up the fact that the United States had been attacked by an Al Qaeda organization that the President had claimed was defeated, as a key feature of the presidential re-election campaign.

Freedom Flotilla III Headed for Gaza

May 19th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Gaza remains illegally blockaded despite Israel's pledge to ease it. Large parts of the Strip lie in ruins - almost nine months since last summer's war of aggression ended.

Funds pledged for reconstruction weren't forthcoming. Israel maintains total control over what's allowed in or out.

Humanitarian crisis conditions are longstanding - greatly exacerbated by wars at Israel's discretion.

Living conditions are deplorable. Most Gazans have no electricity 18 or more hours daily. Half a million residents have no running water. Other basic services are woefully inadequate.

Almost half the population is unemployed, including nearly 70% of youths. Around 80% rely on desperately needed humanitarian aid.

Obama Gave Up on Ukraine, Press Simply Ignored It

May 19th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

On Tuesday, May 12th, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was asked at a press conference in Sochi Russia, to respond to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s recent statements promising renewed war against Donbass, which were made first on April 30th, "The war will end when Ukraine regains Donbass and Crimea,” and which were repeated on May 11th, by his saying, “I have no doubt, we will free the [Donetsk] Airport, because it is our land.” In other words, Poroshenko had repeatedly made clear that he plans a third invasion of Donbass, and, ultimately, also to invade and retake Crimea. (The Western press, however, had not reported any of these threats that were being made by Poroshenko.)

Kerry responded:

“I have not had a chance – I have not read the speech. I haven’t seen any context. I have simply heard about it in the course of today [which would be shocking if true]. But if indeed President Poroshenko is advocating an engagement in a forceful effort at this time, we would strongly urge him to think twice not to engage in that kind of activity, that that would put Minsk in serious jeopardy. And we would be very, very concerned about what the consequences of that kind of action at this time may be."

Israeli Security Force Thugs Attack Russian Journalists

May 19th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Israel is a lawless police state. Military censorship bans or sanitizes material it claims harms national security - true or false.

It prohibits information the public has a right to know - despite its High Court rulings limiting content suppression to "tangible (or) near certain" instances of public endangerment.

Official policy is hardline. Fundamental rights are systematically violated. Palestinian protests, demonstrations, marches and gatherings are prohibited.

Free expression is compromised. Classroom materials are rewritten. Criticism of state policy risks recrimination.

Time for the Truth on TPP and Fast Track

May 19th, 2015

Kevin Zeese

We are the crunch period right now on TPP and fast track. The senate begins debate on Tuesday, it could go days or longer than a week. The two parties are fighting about that right now.

This article is about the moment and about how Sen. Sessions did the right thing -- read the TPP and then told about it -- a no-no since the Obama administration has threatened telling people about the contents of TPP could bring criminal charges. Other elected officials should follow Sessions lead and get the truth out -- especially with Obama telling opponents they don't know what they are talking about.

US Attempted Color Revolution in Macedonia: Victoria Nuland's Dirty Hands Involved

May 19th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Nuland is hardcore neocon - a rogue Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs/former Dick Cheney deputy national security advisor, among other dubious credentials.

She just visited Kiev - plotting revved up aggression on Donbass residents wanting to live free from the scourge of fascism.

On Sunday, she arrived in Moscow to discuss Ukraine and related issues - claiming she wants to help implement Minsk II ceasefire terms, while at the same time plotting escalated aggression.

Her longstanding dirty hands are notorious. She's an unindicted war criminal. She belongs in prison, not high office.

Democracy American Style – Macedonia

May 18th, 2015

By Michael Collins
macedoniaflagMacedonia is about to experience Democracy American Style. The nation’s misfortune is simple. It occupies strategic territory of keen interest to the United States and Russia.

“Russia's Stroitransgaz said on Thursday it will build a gas pipeline across Macedonia, which could eventually be used as part of a route to supply Europe with Russian gas via Turkey”. Reuters, Mar 12

In January, Russia fired Ukraine as its natural gas transit for Europe. The pipeline across Ukraine was ideally positioned for this function. However, Ukraine’s practice of failing to pay for the natural gas it used and the outright hostility of the Kiev junta toward Russia were simply too much. Russia gave notice that the spigot would be turned off permanently in 2019. (Image: WikiCommons)

As an alternative to the Ukraine pipeline, Russia struck a deal with Turkey to sell it all the natural gas it wanted. In addition, Turkey agreed to put a gas portal at the Greek border for interested European nations.

The United States of Injustice

May 17th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

None whatever exists. Guilt by accusation suffices for anyone Washington wants convicted. Innocence is no defense. Juries are pressured to convict. Evidence when absent is invented. Lack of proof doesn't matter.

Thousands of political prisoners languish in America's gulag - at home and abroad. Thousands more are imprisoned for misdemeanors too minor to matter - ones for which just societies wouldn't tolerate incarceration.

Wrongful convictions are longstanding US practice - including numerous victims sentenced to capital punishment for crimes they didn't commit.

Aluminum Toxicity and Vaccines – Recent Basic Neuroscience Research

May 17th, 2015

By Gary G. Kohls, MD

(Connecting Vaccine Adjuvants and Mitochondrial Injury with Autism, Alzheimer’s Dementia, Autoimmune Disorders, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Gulf War Syndrome, ASIA Syndrome, Schizophrenia, Diabetes, Parkinson's disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, etc)

“…our current results are consistent with the existing evidence on the toxicology and pharmacokinetics of Al adjuvants which altogether strongly implicate these compounds as contributors to the rising prevalence of neurobehavioral disorders in children. Given that autism has devastating consequences in a life of a child, and that currently in the developed world over 1% of children suffer from some form of ASD, it would seem wise to make efforts towards reducing infant exposure to aluminum from vaccines.“ — C A Shaw, MD
