Gallup: Americans Say Gov't. Must Protect Environment More; Republicans Say ‘No!'

April 20th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

A Gallup poll issued on April 13th headlines “Americans Choose the Environment Over Energy Development,” and on April 9th another report from Gallup was titled “About Half in U.S. Say Environmental Protection Falls Short.” The bottom-line from both findings is that "the U.S. government" isn’t doing enough to protect the environment but is doing too much to boost energy-production. Republicans feel the exact opposite way, on both matters. Among the total American public, 48% say that the federal government is doing “too little … in terms of protecting the envirionment”; 34% say that it’s doing “the right amount”; and only 16% say that it’s doing “too much.” So, clearly, the public greatly favors increased envifonmental protection by “the U.S. government.” However, whereas 64% of Democrats feel that the government is doing “too little,” only 39% of Republicans do; and so, the partisan divide on this issue is stark.

HILLARY JUMPS IN WITH ALL HER BAGGAGE

April 20th, 2015

Allen L Roland, Ph.D

The coronation of the imperious Hillary Clinton is now officially underway with Hillary's declaration today but she brings with her candidacy much baggage ~ which includes her chief advisor and former president Bill Clinton. Hillary's announced low key campaign cannot hide the fact that she is already a high risk lightening rod, obviously in bed with the global elite and Wall Street and seemingly out of touch with an increasingly impatient and skeptical progressive base: Allen L Roland, Ph.D

“Those of us who follow politics seriously rather than view it as a game show do not look at Hillary Clinton and simply think 'first woman president.' We think ~ for example ~ 'first ex-co-president' or 'first wife of a disbarred lawyer and impeached former incumbent' or 'first person to use her daughter as photo-op protection during her husband's perjury rap.”

~ Christopher Hitchens

I distinctly remember shaking hands with Hillary Clinton on the stage of Glide Church in San Francisco after a performance of the Glide Ensemble, where I was a lead base, and moments after her brief campaign talk many years ago ~ I was stuck by her imperious manner at that time and her cold calculating smile as well as insulating eyes which almost betrayed an angry and betrayed spirit within.

Congress Introduces Fast Track Legislation to Help Enact Anti-Consumer Trade Bills

April 20th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Congressional passage of so-called "trade promotion authority" (TPA) will let Obama expedite the legislative process for pending Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) bills.

The Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (TPA 2015) lets Obama and his trade representative, complicit with corporate predators, rush through Congress, with minimal hearings and no amendments, legislation global justice advocates call NAFTA on steroids.

TPP and TTIP are trade bills from hell. They're stealth corporate coup d'etats.

Syria Falsely Accused of Using Chemical Weapons - Again

April 20th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Throughout years of Obama's war on Syria, President Bashar al-Assad was falsely accused of using chemical weapons (CWs) numerous times.

No corroborating evidence whatever indicates Syrian forces used them in any form any time.

Clear evidence shows IS, Nusra Front and other anti-Syrian elements used them them against defenseless civilians - including toxic agents Saudi Arabia supplied. Anti-Syrian propaganda is relentless. Assad repeatedly faces false accusations.

How Reliable Is Reuters?

April 20th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

People see their own nation, and foreign nations, through the filter of the press that’s available to them; so, if that filter is systematically distorting (distorting in ways that most of the others similarly do), then democracy cannot function, public opinion can be manipulated and warped; and wars might even start that shouldn’t — something Americans have tragically been experiencing lots of, during recent decades, such as when we invaded Iraq in 2003 (just to cite the most famous of many examples).

A typical Reuters ‘news’ report will be examined here, in order to determine how high the journalistic standards of the Reuters ‘news’ organization actually are. Reuters is an internationally respected ‘news’ organization, as reliable as any major ‘news’ organization in the U.S. and Europe — thus, it’s a good source to provide a case-example.

Is This the Start of WW III? Kiev Breaks Minsk Agreement; Reinvades Donbass

April 19th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

On the Friday before Russian Orthodox Easter, the Poroshenko-Yatsenyuk U.S-coup-installed Ukrainian Government attacks on all fronts on April 9th, to continue their extermination-campaign against the residents of the area, Donbass, that refuses to accept the coup-government that was installed by the U.S. when the Ukrainian President whom 90% of those residents had voted for was overthrown by the U.S. This bare-faced violation of the Merkel-Hollande-arranged Minsk truce would not happen without Obama's approval. He is choosing to have this done on Russian holy days in order to intensify the provocation against Russia. Obama is thus going all-out now to provoke from Russia a sending-in of Russian army troops and air power in order for Obama to have a pretext to go to war against Russia, his real target “in order to defend an ally” (which has been trying to exterminate the residents in the area that won’t accept Obama’s imposed rule).

US Combat Troops Prepare Ukraine for Escalated Aggression

April 19th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Obama wants Donbass democracy crushed. He's preparing his fascist allies (overt Nazis) for escalated naked aggression.

He's arming them with heavy weapons. Claims otherwise are Big Lies. He deployed US combat troops to prepare them for battle.

He's doing it while Kiev systematically breaches Minsk ceasefire terms. Low-level conflict continues daily - heading toward resumed full-scale war at Obama's discretion.

About 300 US paratroopers arrived in Ukraine on top of hundreds of other US special forces and combat troops already there.

How Trustworthy Are U.S. & Western ‘News’ Media?

April 19th, 2015

Eric Zuesse

During the days of the Soviet Union, and in all dictatorial countries, the ‘news’ media were and are actually propaganda-media, which filter out information that the aristocracy (the people holding the real power, which in the Soviet Union were the Communist Party bosses) don’t want the public to know. Is the United States like that now?

I first came to the conclusion that the U.S. is a dictatorship in 2002, when I found proof that George W. Bush was lying to claim that he possessed proof that Saddam Hussein was rebuilding his WMD (weapons of mass destruction) stockpiles, and when the U.S. and UK ’news’ media hid this crucial fact that their heads-of-state were lying. Bush and British Prime Minster Tony Blair were arguing in 2002 against sending IAEA inspectors back into Iraq in order to verify whether or not Saddam was rebuilding his WMD stockpiles; they alleged that they (Bush-Blair) already possessed proof that he was accumulating WMD.

Reign of Terror in Ukraine

April 19th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Obama's fascist Ukrainian friends are ruthless. They're dangerous/unscrupulous gangster thugs systematically abolishing personal freedoms.

Try finding a single major Western media report explaining Kiev regime lawlessness - and the ominous threat it poses. None exist. What demands denunciation gets scoundrel media support.

On the one hand, Ukrainian officials are actively readying for renewed full-scale aggression on Donbass - with full US support and encouragement, including heavy weapons and munitions supplied.

On the other, they're reigning terror on anyone opposing their ruthless rule - courageous individuals demanding democratic rights.

Vladimir Putin: Voted Most Important World Figure

April 19th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Time magazine readers called him the most influential one. In 2007, its editors chose him person of the year for his "extraordinary feat of leadership in imposing stability on a nation that has rarely known it and bringing Russia back to the table of world power."

In 2013 and 2014, Forbes magazine chose him the world's powerful leader. In 2014, Russians voted him Person of the Year for the 16th time.

His domestic approval rating is an astonishing 86% - double or more what Obama scores. Russians consider him their most trustworthy leader. Obama is polar opposite.

He has no credibility whatever. He's a war criminal multiple times over. His neocon-infested administration threatens world peace.

His war crimes remain unaccountable. They continue daily - especially against defenseless civilian men, women and children. He considers them legitimate targets.

Putin is a leading world proponent for peace and stability. Claims otherwise are Big Lies.
