Beating Up on Russia, Syria and Iran

October 19th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Russia is slandered for doing the right thing. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland calls Putin's government "morally bankrupt."

Moscow's gone all out to prevent proxy war on Syria exploding into full-scale conflict. Putin/Medvedev know the potentially catastrophic consequences. Washington vilifies efforts against its global imperial ravaging. Humanity everywhere is targeted.

In September, Moscow was again attacked. At issue was expelling USAID. It's an imperial tool. A Foreign Ministry statement said:

"The decision was taken mainly because the work of the agency’s officials far from always responded to the stated goals of development and humanitarian cooperation. We are talking about attempts to influence political processes through its grants."

Palestinian Authority to Hold Sham Elections

October 19th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Longtime Israeli collaborators Mahmoud Abbas and Salam Fayyad scheduled West Bank municipal elections on October 20, 2012. Democracy isn't on the ballot. Palestinians are skeptical for good reason.

For the first time since January 25, 2006, they'll vote in an election much different from then. Fed up with institutionalized Fatah corruption and subservience to Israel, Hamas candidates swept to victory.

They won 74 of the Palestinian Legislative Council's (PLC) 132 seats. Hamas became Palestine's legitimate government. It remains so despite Fatah's complicity with Israel. Doing so separated West Bank authority from Gaza.

Sham Israeli Elections

October 19th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

On November 6, America's sham process occurs. On January 22, Israelis face the same . Real choice is excluded from both ballots. Democracy is hypocrisy in both countries.

Congress recessed until post-election. Israel's Knesset just adjourned. On October 16, Haaretz headlined "As Knesset ends term, we should say 'good riddance,' " saying:

It's Israel's most anti-democratic one ever. It "brought the tyranny of the majority to new heights." Hardline extremists ran "roughshod over vulnerable minorities, first and foremost Israeli Arabs, as well as over civil society groups and human rights organizations."

All-Time Darwin Award: The Nuclear Industry

October 18th, 2012

By Rady Ananda
Activist Post

Gar Smith’s Nuclear Roulette: The Truth about the Most Dangerous Energy Source on Earth is a 14-point condemnation of President Eisenhower’s “peaceful atom,” an exposé of official and corporate lies, and a multi-pronged platform of alternatives.

When Ike okayed nuclear power, “they screwed the pooch,” says political cartoonist Mike DiBari. Ike’s military-industrial complex wrote our death sentence when the US authorized the development of nuclear energy: humanity will not survive this technology, nor will most other species.

“In 2000 alone, civilian reactors produced enough plutonium to make more than 34,000 nuclear bombs,” writes Smith. [1] This is what the nuclear energy industry is about – producing plutonium, tritium and other ingredients for nuclear bombs. [2]

Nobel Peace Sanctions?

October 18th, 2012

by Philip Greaves

The continuing rhetoric and relentless warmongering from western diplomats continues, amidst the barrage of talk and media propaganda of an imminent “crisis” comes one critical element for the civilian population of Iran. US led sanctions have undoubtedly led to the downfall of the Iranian economy, and as recent history has proven it will be the civilian population that bears the brunt. Western diplomats predict Iran’s foreign exchange reserves will run dry in six months to a year, making it impossible for the country to import or export goods and run its public services. Today it was reported in the Guardian that the head of the charity Foundation for Special Diseases has warned of a serious shortage of vital medicines, for diseases such as haemophilia, multiple sclerosis and cancer. Earlier this month Ban Ki Moon the UN secretary-general had warned in a report that “The sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran have had significant effects on the general population, including an escalation in inflation, a rise in commodities and energy costs, an increase in the rate of unemployment and a shortage of necessary items, including medicine,”. The EU, fresh from winning the Nobel Peace Prize last week don’t appear to be listening with British Foreign Secretary William Hague announcing further escalation to the crippling sanctions.

Global Peace and Humanity

October 18th, 2012

Mahboob A. Khawaja, PhD

Are the 21st century knowledge-based philosophers and practitioners incapable to rationalize human priorities for peace and harmony to safeguard the besieged mankind from the scourge of WW3? Was Immanuel Kant more proactive and intelligent more than 200 years earlier to think of the best of the mankind in “Perpetual Peace” plan? The prevalent global realities speak of a contemporary world devoid of rational thinking and priorities for peacemaking and peace-building. With countless resources of knowledge and intellect, the world has become a dangerous place – a touch button age capability to undo the entire mankind as if it was burden on the shoulders of the traditional warmongers affluent throughout the industrialized nations. Political and secretive war manufacturing industries are flourishing but peace is not the priority of any assembly line major establishments. It is not that the essential priorities are wrong so are the mindsets and intellectual pursuits of the international warlords managing the global governance. Too many academic discussions consume time and energies leaving educators exhaustive for not being able to see any light beyond and above the immediate box of moral and intellectual paradoxes. At times, we are too occupied with dead artifacts and convenient scenarios to discuss peace and the concerns of the global community rather than overriding the sponsored comforts of higher standard of living to pursue change and reformation of the obsolete thoughts and priorities. A reality check frightens the whole of the mankind of the unthinkable consequences what if too many Fukushima disasters become unmanageable. Politicians, scientists and hired experts will debate while the larger parts of the living humanity will be victimized by their failure to perceive the reality.

American-Style Fascism

October 18th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

On October 16, Hofstra University (Hempstead, NY) hosted the second Obama/Romney charade. Demagogic blather again took center stage. Ritualistic theater was featured. Grade F spectacle defines it.

Bombast substituted for substance. Vital facts about the state of the nation and world were excluded. Viewers wasted two hours watching. What they most need to know wasn't covered. Instead they were bombarded by duplicity and indifference toward growing human needs.

Duopoly fascism in America excludes alternative voices. Third party candidates are virtually shut out. Getting ballot access alone presents enormous challenges. Major media coverage is denied or too little to matter.

Israel will eventually meet the Crusades' fate

October 18th, 2012

By Khalid Amayreh

Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu this week announced the organization of early general elections on 22 January. The decision to move up the election date is widely thought to be a shrewd feat on Netanyahu's part, which would allow the Israeli premier to form a stronger extremist government. The current government, probably the most extremist in Israel's history, is not facing an imminent danger of collapse. However, Israel is facing a host of economic and strategic problems which could change the direction of political winds in Israel within a relatively short duration.

However, with the Israeli society continuing to move toward Jewish fascism in both the secular and religious senses, Netanyahu is fairly confident he will form the next Israeli government.

Long-Suffering Haitians Want Change

October 18th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Haitians know adversity and anguish as well as anyone. They've experienced over 500 years of oppression, slavery, despotism, colonization, reparations, embargoes, sanctions, deep poverty, starvation, crushing debt, and natural calamities from destructive hurricanes to a dozen regional magnitude 7.0 or greater earthquakes.

Except briefly after their successful 1804 revolution and under Aristide, they've been denied legitimate governance and freedom. They continue suffering today under stealth Duvalierist Michel ("Sweet Micky") Martelly. He's a US-installed stooge.

Freedom of speech enters dark age: Gilad Atzmon on Press TV

October 17th, 2012

Gilad Atzmon presstv.com/

The concept of freedom of speech and tolerance enters a dark age as the Europe Union's executive body orders a ban on several Iranian channels, an author tells Press TV. European satellite provider Eutelsat SA says it has stopped the broadcast of several Iranian satellite channels following an order by the European Commission. The company ordered media services company, Arqiva, to take the Iranian satellite channels off one of its Hot Bird frequencies on Monday.

Press TV: Firstly, I wanted to get your reaction to this decision.

Atzmon: It obviously doesn’t take me by a big surprise. The old concept of ‘freedom of speech and tolerance’ is in a serious decay in Europe. In Britain, it already disappeared completely. We are living in a very dark age and it is now official.
